Swollen Members Overcome Drug Addiction, Legal Problems and Labels Collapsing To Record New Album “Armed To The Teeth” Featuring La Coka Nostra, Talib Kweli, and Tech N9NE.

Swollen Members have leaked the new track “Warrior” online at www.MySpace.com/SwollenMembers from their upcoming new album “Armed To The Teeth” which lands in stores October 13th, 2009 through Suburban Noize/E1 Music Canada and Battle Axe Records.

“It’s been a crazy few years for not only me, but also Swollen. I was in a very bad state for the last three years; drugs and an abusive lifestyle had gotten the best of me. I was severely addicted to Oxycontin, doing just over twenty 80mg pills a day, which equals the strength of about 320 Percocet pills. I became public enemy #1 with the cops due to my association with Hell’s Angels and other clubs and was under constant surveillance with wire taps, etc. There was a time when I couldn’t leave my house without being confronted by the cops. At least 3 or 4 police vehicles would show up every time I left the house,” says Mad Child. “And with a diet of two quarts of ice cream a night, I gained a lot of weight and slipped into a very dark place. I was basically living in my theater room for the last two years and spent over half a million dollars on pills. I wasn’t paying attention to my business affairs either so I lost two million dollars over the course of my addiction. I went from living the high life with girls, money and parties to watching movies in my theatre and being a zombie with only my dogs to keep me company. What I now realize is that I put the lives of many people on hold during my addiction. There are a lot of people that count on me and I know I let them down. Thank God I have a studio in my house and an amazing group who never abandoned me. The only good thing that came out of the last three years is the album we are about to drop.”

SwiMp3 waterproof MP3 player HANDS-ON REVIEW

swimp3reviewThe SwiMP3 V2 player manufactured by technical swimming development company Finis is an underwater MP3 player aimed at the recreational and competitive swimmer who is looking for an extra boost to their training routines.  Having swam competitively as a teenager, I was excited to try out this device to see if it lived up to its hype.  And did it ever…

Loading MP3s onto the device was a simple matter of plugging in the attached USB connector to my PC, and dragging files from my local drive onto the player.  With no required software to be installed, it was literally plug-and-play (Windows 98 users may need USB support to be installed).  Charging is also done through USB, and after a short while the player was ready to hit the lake.  The SwiMP3 device has 256MB of internal memory for your music files, which translates to approximately 3 hours of continuous music.  This may not seem like a lot in this day and age of multi-gig players, but unless you’re training for cross-lake marathons, it should be more than enough to get you through the hardiest of workouts.

I attached the player to the included goggles and dove in for a swim.  You have to turn up the volume quite a bit to overcome the ambient noises associated with being under water, but once the levels were set I was amazed at the audio quality.  Music sounds a little tinny above water, but once your head goes under the audio comes out full and clear.  I kept swimming and listening and in no time found myself halfway across the lake.  Since the device uses bone-conductive technology, your ears are left open to hear outside noises, such as an oncoming boat or your coach’s whistles while doing laps in the pool.  The control buttons are difficult to use while the player is on your head, but I’m sure with a bit of practice it will be second nature to reach up and adjust the volume or select a new track.

The SwiMP3 players comes bundled with a pair of comfortable and clear swim goggles, a bright pink swim cap, along with the instruction guide, and has an MSRP of $149.99 USD.  If you spend any amount of time in the water and are jealous of the folks on the treadmills with their music and tv’s, the Finis SwiMP3 V2 player is just the thing for you to spice up your workouts. THE LEGENDARY “AMNESIA” TORONTO OLD SCHOOL EVENT ANNOUNCES 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

6173_263946885226_716250226_8525754_6720104_nAugust 21st 2009 – Toronto, Canada – Amnesia, one of Toronto’s most beloved monthly music events, will celebrate 10 years during a 3 day celebration, September 18-20th 2009.
In 1999, a chance conversation amongst friends unearthed the fact that the Toronto Urban entertainment scene lacked substance and failed to play music if it wasn’t new music. In fact, certain musical genres were found neglected and omitted – almost as though DJs and patrons had musical memory loss. In response, “AMNESIA”, a monthly old school event was born - with a mandate to play Classic House and Old School, and has grown to encompass other “forgotten genres” such as New Jack Swing (90s R&B), True School Hip Hop, Classic Slow Jams, and Retro including 70s and 80s television themes packaged as “Scratch’s #onky #its.
The Amnesia team consists of 3 members, the award winning and number one club/radio DJ in the country, DJ Starting from Scratch, and underground legend, Jason Chambers of the Attitude Sound crew (both of whom play mixed shows on Flow 93.5fm), and Canada’s top Urban promoter, Ian Andre Espinet.
Since it’s humble beginnings in Toronto’s Granite Lounge, where it played host to a 150 friends, Amnesia has grown to average 600 patrons monthly, and has gone on to produce over 115 unique events including boat cruises, roller skating all-nighters, old school dress up events and Pajama Jammy Jams - in the process playing host to tens of thousands of patrons in dozens of venues, while often collecting food for those less fortunate.
Its euphoric music selection, theme based and costume parties, have garnered the event legendary status with music enthusiasts nationwide, becoming the focus of print and internet articles and even the backdrop for Much Music’s urban programming - appearing in episodes of RapCity and MuchVibe.
Past surprise anniversary guests have included hip hop icons MC Lyte, Special Ed, Greg Nice, CL Smooth, and Chubb Rock, house and dance acts Ten City (featuring Byron Stingly), CeCe Peniston, Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam and Canadian mainstays Maestro Fresh Wes, Michee Mee, Dream Warriors and the “T-Dot All-Stars” featuring Kardinal Offishall, Saukrates, Choclair, Ro Dolla and Solitair as well as dance crews Bag-A-Trix and Do Dat Dance Agency.

SNOOP & TOMMY THE CLOWN unite to create C.L.O.U.T.

wordsoutpr_tommysnoopA Series of Monthly Battle Night Events to Promote Organization’s Mission to
Help At-Risk Youth

Snoop Dogg recently announced his partnership with famed entertainer Tommy the Clown to create an organization called the C.L.O.U.T. (Changing Lives One Youth at a Time) Foundation. The foundation will aim to provide a creative and social outlet for at-risk youth in order to help avoid the misplaced creative energy which too often results in gang violence, crime, and abuse.

The first event organized by C.L.O.U.T. is a monthly Battle Night. Battle Night, held at the Los Angeles Trade-Technical College’s Grand Theater and hosted and emceed by Tommy the Clown, allows young people to compete and showcase their individual talents before an audience of their peers. Youth are encouraged to express themselves through drama, dance, song, poetry or comedy. ”Lightning” Bolt Strikes Twice at 12TH IAAF World Championships In Athletics in Berlin

puma-running-041809-025-18_lowres1200m09200m052Three-time Jamaican Olympic gold medallist and PUMA athlete Usain ‘Lightning’ Bolt shattered his own world record and delivered a stunning first place finish in the 200m on Thursday night at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. Competing on the hottest day on record this year in Germany, Bolt and the track were literally on fire.

The Jamaican sprinter surged ahead of his opponents and raced to victory with an astonishing 19.19 seconds finish. Bolt shattered his own world record last Sunday in the 100m race when he clocked the fastest time ever recorded for that distance in just 9.58 seconds. Previously the world records for the 100m and 200m were set by Bolt exactly one year ago this week at the Summer Olympics in Beijing.

Wearing the now infamous custom-designed Theseus Pro sprint spike, dubbed the PUMA YAAM, after his favorite food, Usain Bolt exploded out of the starting block and powered past the pack, running hard through the end, again cementing his title as the “Fastest Man in the World”. The PUMA YAAM sprint spike that propelled him to victory twice in the last week was developed by a team of PUMA designers and technicians who studied and measured Bolt’s stride and foot form. With this information and ongoing track-testing, they created a custom-made sprint spike that best suits Usain’s unique body kinetics. The vibrant orange color was chosen to contrast Olympic Stadium’s signature blue track. The shoe is designed to provide power, speed and stability. The “engine” of the show is a carbon plate, which adds speed and power but no weight. PUMA has also designed an athletic, low-profile version of Usain’s signature track spike, called the PUMA STREET YAAM, which will be available at select retail locations later in the year.
