Anané to release new CD “Ananésworld” / Produced by Grammy Award Winner Louie Vega

rephlektorlist_ananeflyerbackloresAnané brings together the sounds of dance, reggae, rock, R&B soul, world and the Caribbean onAnanésworld

Produced by Grammy Award Winner Louie Vega and featuring a collaboration with fashion designer Roberto Cavalli on

“Love To Love You Baby”

On April 20, Nervous Records will release the sophomore album from Anané entitled Ananésworld. A fitting title as it’s composed of music ranging in styles from dance, reggae, rock, R&B soul, world and the Caribbean; and because there’s a level of honesty that connects Anané with every note that’s performed on the album. Dance albums often come across as “tracks,” but what we have with Ananésworld is something more…It’s a rich album that throws back to a meaningful time and place.

Produced by Grammy Award Winner Louie Vega and co-produced by Anané, it won’t take very long to get fully immersed in Ananésworld. The opening track is a sparkling bass-heavy cover of Yoko Ono’s “Walking On Thin Ice” that brings some serious chic disco flavor. “Plastic People” offers a dance rock hybrid with tropical island flair while “Rock The Cradle” delivers a poignant message through whispers of reggae (both tracks co-written by Anané and Lisa Fischer). Straight out of a vintage movie soundtrack the smoky and sexy “Terra Longe” and “Bem Ma Mi” are pure class from the French Riviera. Next, an interlude provides a clear transition between the two sides of Ananésworld. “Bigger Than Life,” “My Sexy Way” (co-written by Anané and Duane Harden) and “A New Born Day” reflect a love of classic R&B; “Let Me Love You” and “Let’s Get High (Life Love Music)” reveals Anané’s dancier side; and Dancehall King Mr. Vegas and MC Tony Touch help tear it up on “Shake It” (co-written by Anané and Duane Harden). A thick slice of 80’s NYC punk on ”Standing In Line” leads to a massive surprise that’s “Love To Love You Baby.” While there’s no doubt you’re familiar with Donna Summer’s original, we’re positive you’ve never heard it quite like this. That’s because Anané teamed up with iconic Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli for a stunning rendition of the classic.

On both a personal and professional level, Grammy Award Winner Louie Vega is a very important person in Anané’s life. Not only is Louie Vega this album’s producer and a great teacher/mentor, but he’s also Anané’s husband. Working together they recruited a talented team of collaborators includingsongwriter Duane Harden (Groove Doctors and Bob Sinclar writer); Lem Springsteen (Mood II Swing); and 1992 Best Female R&B Vocal PerformanceGrammy award winner Lisa Fischer, who not only sang and arranged background vocals but also played an integral part in writing the tracks “Plastic People” and “Rock The Cradle.

Music has been in Anané’s blood since growing up in the Cape Verdean capital of Santiago. She discovered her talent for singing during family gatherings called “serenades” where people would play guitars and percussion instruments and sing a “morna,” a melancholic but beautiful ode to past times spent on the islands. Anané eventually brought her talents to New York City, where she met Grammy Award Winner Louie Vega who recruited her as an integral member of the Elements of Life Collective. This stepping stone lead to an international career including appearances at Japan’s world-renowned Blue Note, Europe’s celebrated Montreux Jazz Festival, Finland’s Pori Jazz, Holland’s North Sea Jazz Festival, Cape Town’s Jazz and Britain’s Womad Festival. Perhaps her biggest gig yet was in 2007 when world-famous entertainment empire Cirque De Soleil personally approached Anané to perform the opening song for the Super Bowl XLII pre-game show. Her performance of “One Dream” was seen by more than 140 million people worldwide.

In addition to singing and producing music, Anané is an accomplished DJ. Setting Anané apart from other DJs is that, being a singer too, she will often get up on the console or stage and sing a few songs in the middle of her DJ sets. Thus far, her mixing talents have lead to gigs at Pacha NY, Roots @ Cielo and a monthly residency at The SubMercer; while internationally she’s graced the decks at Roberto Cavalli’s Cavalli Café/Club (Florence, Italy), Ministry of Sound (London), Cavo Paradiso (Mykonos) and Chocolate Club (Morocco), among others. Beyond all things music, Anané is a philanthropist and has a strong determination to help underprivileged kids. In 2007 she started The Anané Vega Scholarship Fund and is involved with Next Aid and Children Mending Hearts; all organizations that help children.

Marco Polo & Ruste Juxx Set The eXXecution

20100127-exxAlbum In Stores March 23rd, 2010 on Duck Down Records

Album Is Entirely Produced By Marco Polo and Features Appearances From Sean Price, Black Moon (Buckshot, 5FT & DJ Evil Dee), Rock of Heltah Skeltah, Freddie Foxxx & DJ Revolution

Marco Polo & Ruste Juxx have combined forces to bring fans a serious dose of hardcore Hip Hop. The eXXecution is entirely produced by Marco Polo with Ruste Juxx providing gut-wrenching vocals over heavy hitting drums.

Marco Polo explains that a “simple studio session to play beats turned into Ruste Juxx recording 9 songs. The joints came out so crazy that we said let’s turn this into a full-length album. Working with Duck Down all these years it was only a matter of time before Juxx and I got to a specific project. The best part is the work happened organically. Nothing was forced. Ruste came through, heard beats, wrote, recorded…done deal. March 23rd is The eXXecution!”

The album, which has been finalized features Sean Price, Black Moon (Buckshot, 5FT & DJ Evil Dee), Rock of Heltah Skeltah, DJ Revolution, and Freddie Foxxx.

Ruste Juxx describes the album as “straight eXXecuting. I’m killing off wack MCs and Marco’s murdering the producers. I couldn’t help but to write some killer shit to the beats Marco made. If I wrote something wack to his production, then it’s a wasted beat. I can’t have that! “

Barbadian Dancehall, Hip-Hop Artist Vizion Readies New Album And Single For 2010

vizionBarbados Singer/Songwriter Vizion, Set to Release New Album and Single in 2010.

Singer/songwriter and Dancehall/Hip-Hop artist, Vizion is set to release his debut album “All or Nothing” in the Fall of 2010, with the first single “Stunnin’” due in March.

Oliver Louis Gale, 23, is from the island of Barbados (home of Rihanna, Shontelle, Jaicko, Vita…). Having a Barbadian father and an English mother, he has an original look. His conscious mind, unique vocal style and delivery, have been the driving force behind his music which has become a fusion of R&B, Hip Hop, Reggae and Dancehall. His innate sense of social awareness and his appreciation of different genres of music allow him to explore various avenues in the music industry mixing an original blend of melody and lyrics. Introducing VIZION.

Since returning to Barbados in 2009 from Bristol University in the UK, where he obtained an Honours degree in Business Management, Vizion has been working with local producers, including Hit Island Records, to compile a demo album of original work.

Vizion was greatly influenced at a very early age by The Jamaican Dance Hall genre (Including such artists as: Sean Paul, Beenie Man and Bounty Killer). In 2001, at 14, Vizion began emulating the sounds of his favorite artists recording on his personal computer. These samples soon found their way to many of his friends and eventually to House Party DJ’s. In 2003, during his time at boarding school in Canada, Vizion began to explore his musical diversity and ventured into the genre of Rap/Hip Hop. He soon realized that by fusing the two genres together he could create a unique sound which he is known for to date. On his return to Barbados in 2006 he was introduced to KB Sharp of Hit Island Records, a union which led to his first studio recording and Hit Song – “Girl I Need You” in 2007, produced by Hit Island Records. During his university years Vizion became involved with the underground Hip Hop circuit and continued his performances at clubs and bars around the UK, opening for artists such as Tinchy Stryder.

As a result of the success of his new Hit song, Vizion soon began performing in Barbados at some of the island’s most prestigious events: ‘Reggae on the Hill’ with the likes of: Buju Banton, Sizzla, Beres Hammond, ‘Reggae on the Beach’ with the likes of: Tessanne Chin, Baby Cham, Wayne Wonder, ‘The Kensington Oval’ with the likes of: Anthony B, Frankie Paul, Stephen Marley and at various local night clubs, in collaboration with other local artists. During this time Vizion recorded and performed with a variety of regional artists including Ayana John, Roache Killa and Buggy. By the end of 2007 the video for “Girl I Need You” was released. The video was produced by Lucid Entertainment and co-produced and managed by Vizion himself.

In 2008, Vizion was nominated at the Barbados Music awards in three categories, including Best New artist and Best Reggae artist. With an Honours degree under his belt and with the evolution of himself as an artist underway, Vizion is working everyday on his musical development, and is determined to make his dream of becoming an internationally recognized recording artist come true.

“All or Nothing” the album in stores this fall, the single “Stunnin’” out in March.

ELLIOT BERGMAN (NOMO) MAKES NEW BATCH OF ELECTRIC KALIMBAS FOR UBIQUITY.

kal2NOMO bandleader Elliot Bergman has just completed a set of beautiful electric kalimbas that we are happy to offer for sale. This limited edition of 20 (for 20 years of Ubiquity!) was handcrafted in Bergman’s workshop out of Alowood, a beautiful hardwood that is sustainably grown in the Pacific Northwest. These instruments sound great acoustically, but they really shine when plugged in to an amplifier or PA system.  The kalimbas use piezo pickups to amplify the sound, and are fitted with a standard 1/4 jack so you can plug in to any guitar, keyboard or bass amp. Each electric kalimba is carefully tuned to a minor pentatonic scale, and can easily be retuned to any tonality by adjusting the tines.  Bergman attests that this is his best batch of instruments to date, and that each instrument plays and looks great.

Bergman’s creations contribute heavily to the sound of NOMO and they have been featured in several NPR segments over the past few years.

Kalimbas can he purchased directly on the Ubiquity website.

MP3: DaVinci - “It’s On Me” Prod. By Blunt

davinci-coming_soonUp and coming emceeDaVinci is hard at work making a name for himself. Recently signing with Bay-Area label SWTBRDS Creative Collective, DaVinci will soon unleash his music onto the masses with his debut album The Day The Turf Stood Still - scheduled to hit the streets on March 9, 2010. Building momentum for the release, in addition to releasing material from his upcoming debut, DaVinci will be releasing three bonus tracks not on the album. Rather than throwaways, all three are album-quality songs, simply completed too late to make the final cut. Up first, DaVinci offers us “It’s On Me,” and with this initial offering, gives listeners, both familiar and unfamiliar with DaVinci’s prior work, a window into his prior life - telling his own story of struggling his way out of a lifestyle of crime, taking big steps to help himself move up in the world. Raps DaVinci, “I’m at the bottom with the roaches and rats, but I’m climbing to the top with the snakes and cats.” Hoping to affect a greater change in the world than merely tell his own story, DaVinci looks at “It’s On Me” as a way to both inspire and prove his own merits. “I came up wit the concept to inspire people to take initiative for their hustle,” says DaVinci. “The message here is, ‘If I don’t do it, nobody else will,’ so I felt the need to convey exactly why I think people should give my music a chance.”

The slick production is courtesy of Vancouver producer Blunt, behind all three forthcoming pre-album tracks, perhaps most well known for his production efforts with Freeway – Blunt produced a majority of Freeway’s Month Of Madness. DaVinci was introduced to Blunt through a mutual friend over email, and was an instant fan of his beats: “The track was dope without anyone even rapping on it, so I just wanted to make sure that there was a marriage between the beat and my lyrics.”

DONNIS’ DEBUT SINGLE “GONE” OUT ON FOOL’S GOLD!

87FEATURING REMIXES BY CRAZE AND NOSAJ THING, BBGUN DIRECTED VIDEO COMING IN FEBRUARY

In an era where emerging MCs are immediately boxed up and tagged as “street” this and “hipster” that, it’s refreshing to hear an new artist like Donnis defy such quick categorizations simply through good, honest music.

Having spent 2009 rising through the blog ranks with copious freestyles, live performance videos, and the smash mixtape “Diary Of An ATL Brave” (presented by beloved clothing label 10.Deep), Donnis is ready to take the next step in his career by releasing his debut single “Gone” on Fool’s Gold Records, the Brooklyn powerhouse founded by A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs, praised by Billboard as an “indie innovator” and a “tastemaker label” by the New York Times.

“Gone” is a perfect introduction to the stylistic diversity Donnis has in store. Produced by Needlz (Lupe Fiasco, G-Unit, Ludacris), the soaring, dreamy cut is as much a look into the future of Atlanta hip-hop as it is a classic A-Town ride-out in the vein of early TI and Outkast. It’s already receiving radio love from everyone from Khaled to Hot 97’s DJ Enuff, who named it a “Heavy Hitter Pick Of The Week“, and a video is due out in February from directors BBGun. The single is rounded out by an up-tempo dance remix from Craze (Kanye West DJ, three-time world DMC champion) and a spacey take by critically acclaimed producer Nosaj Thing.

Donnis’ relationship with Fool’s Gold Records has been long in the making, from sharing stages with Fool’s Gold’s DJs to guest spots on records by A-Trak and Bag Raiders. “I’ve known A-Trak and Nick for a couple years. We’ve wanted to work together for a while now, but timing is everything - and the timing is finally right. I respect what they do and I’m excited to work with the Fool’s Gold team on this record,” says Donnis.

The feeling is mutual, explains A-Trak: “Donnis has always been dope, but he’s grown by leaps and bounds over the past year from a skilled party rapper into an extremely charismatic, well-rounded artist. Nick and I are thrilled to have ‘Gone’ bring him into the Fool’s Gold family.”

The track is available now at iTunes: http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/gone-ep/id350007310

Little Brother Announces Release Date Of April 20th For New LP LeftBack

little_brother-00Favorites of fans and critics alike, Little Brother, the North Carolina duo of Phonte and Rapper Big Pooh, is proud to finally confirm the release of an album people have been waiting on for years.LeftBack, which will be the fourth album of Little Brother’s illustrious career, will be available April 20thvia Hall Of Justus.

Little Brother members Phonte and Rapper Big Pooh worked through several versions of the album before locking in the final version of LeftBack. Close followers of Little Brother may already be familiar with the LeftBack title, however, any previously held notions of this album being an EP should be dismissed. Little Brother opted to scrap the EP concept and instead, crafted an album’s worth of material for those who have been waiting patiently for new content. “I didn’t want our last record to be a bunch of second-rate material,” says Phonte. “I wanted to walk away from Little Brother knowing that I gave our fans all that I had to give, and said everything I wanted to say. With LeftBack, I’ve done that.”

Continuing the tradition they set with the critically acclaimed GetBack, Big Pooh and Phonte have enlisted multiple producers for LeftBack, both from within and outside of the Justus League camp. Producers for this album include frequent collaborator Khrysis and GetBack producers Denaun Porter and Zo!, as well as efforts from Symbolyc Oneand first time Little Brother contributors, J. Bizness, and King Karnov.

In addition to production, Khyrsis will also be contributing guest vocals on the album. Joining the North Carolina producer/MC are ToraeTruck NorthJozeemo and fellow Justus League MC’s Chaundon and Median. Resident crooner Darien Brockington and songstress Yahzarah also supply vocals on the album.

Despite Little Brother’s dominating presence in the hip-hop world since the 2003 release of The ListeningLeftBack will mark the duo’s first album with a true multi-media experience. Accompanying LeftBack will be four official music videos, all shot and directed by Matt Koza, known for his previous work with Foreign Exchange, Rapper Big Pooh, Kam Moye, RJD2, and more. While not customary for a Little Brother release – the group has had only one previous official video, forThe Minstrel Show’s “Lovin’ It” – with LeftBack, Little Brother is excited to offer loyal supporters a long-desired visual take on the group’s music. Says Big Pooh, “Three albums, three mixtapes, one video. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense in this day and age. We have always lacked in the visual department, and I think it will be refreshing to finally offer the people those visuals.”

Building on the album’s multi-media offerings, the initial pressing of LeftBack will also feature a limited edition DVD full of exclusive bonus material. Compiled in a documentary format, the bonus DVD will include recent tour footage, as well as exclusive Little Brother footage shot and archived throughout their career. For fans that miss the initial run, a subsequent DVD-only release will also include all official music videos from LeftBack.

Fans can expect further announcements from Little Brother, including tour info and other interesting developments onLeftBack’s road to the release.

“At Hardihood we are always pushing the boundaries to be unique,” says Creative Director Angus Wong. “We’ve had so many requests to do women’s clothing and now that we’ve had so much success with our men’s line, we are ready to tackle this new challenge and expand the Hardihood family.”

The designs embody Hardihood Clothing’s self-assured maxim, I Am What You Are Not. “The Hardihood woman is sassy and strong – she’s the type that can change your mind without saying a word,” says Angus. This boldness is on display with the cheeky Kiss Tee ($66).

“My favourite item this season has to be the Mandala Tee,” says Angus. “It’s a Tibetan term that means ‘essence’ or ‘completion’ and I wanted to reflect karma by using the geometry of a circle.” Very apropos given that every Hardihood design means a lot more than initially meets the eye.
We love the Peacock Tee ($66). “According to Indian culture, peacock feathers are the enemy of poisonous creatures, able to convert primary poisons like ignorance, desire, and aversion into the nectar of wisdom,” says Angus. “It symbolizes women being able to deflect poisons of everyday life and thrive in the face of a challenge.”
Look for the City Tee ($59)! “Vancouver is one of the best places in the world to live,” says Angus. “This shirt is all about paying homage to the city that moulded me into who I am today!” Want some other options? Try the Familia Tee, Star U Tee, and Chrys V Tee.

SNOOP DOGG RETURNS WITH “MORE MALICE: DELUXE ALBUM AND MOVIE” ON MARCH 23rd

731FIRST SINGLE FROM FORTHCOMING ALBUM, “I WANNA ROCK” REMIX FEATURING JAY Z, AVAILABLE ON ITUNES ON JANUARY 26th

NEW ALBUM INCLUDES MINI-MOVIE DVD STARRING SNOOP DOGG,

JAMIE FOXX, XZIBIT, NIPSEY HUSSLE AND MORE

Snoop Dogg announced that he will release the follow up to his latest release entitled More Malice: Deluxe Album and Movie on March 23rd. The new album will feature 5 songs from the previously released “Malice N Wonderland” along with 5 entirely new songs and 2 remixes. Included with More Malice will be a never-before-seen mini-movie entitled Malice N Wonderland The Movie which features Snoop in the title role with cameos from Jamie Foxx, Xzibit, Nipsey Hussle and more.

The first highly anticipated single from More Malice is the remix to fan favourite “I Wanna Rock” featuring superstar Jay Z. The two kings from their respective coasts take turns on the mic on this Scoop Deville produced club anthem. The single will be available on iTunes on January 26th. Additionally, the Snoop Dogg and Soulja Boy song, “Pronto,” gets the remix treatment with Southern alum Bun B jumping on the track.

In addition to new music, the 40 minute action packed movie included in the package tells the story of superhero Malice (played by Snoop Dogg) in his hometown of crime plagued Wonderland. The safety of the city is up to Malice who fights crime and strives to bring peace back to his neighborhood. Music from the accompanying album is featured throughout the dramatic film.

Snoop says, “The response to Malice N Wonderland has been so incredible that I had to drop another banger for the fans. They have been asking for more – so I’m giving them More Malice! I also wanted everyone to get something special so we are adding a mini-movie to the mix – with me in the starring role. The homie Jamie Foxx came through to be a part of it as well – between the action and the storyline, people are in for a big surprise.
