Ke$ha – the red hot pop sensation who has taken the world by storm – set the record for the biggest track sales week by any artist in Canadian SoundScan history when her debut single “TiK ToK” received 36,395 downloads last week. Additionally, Ke$ha, who co-wrote “TiK ToK” along with the rest of her debut album Animal, has the unique distinction of being featured on the #2 selling track of all time as well, Flo Rida’s “Right Round.” In the U.S. Ke$ha had the biggest track sales week by any female artist in history (and #2 overall) with 610,069 downloads of “TiK ToK.”
“TiK ToK,” which has the honour of being the first #1 single of the new decade, is also enjoying its second week at #1 on the Canadian and American SoundScan Digital Songs Chart and Billboard Hot 100. Ke$ha, who The New York Times referred to as a “double threat” releases her debut album Animaltoday (RCA Records / Kemosabe Entertainment).
Since being released to Canadian radio in early October, “TiK ToK” has been #1 on Broadcast Data (BDS) Contemporary Hit Radio charts for 4 weeks surpassing the chart positions of the latest songs by Jay Z, Lady Gaga, Rihanna. The track has sold more than 164,000 in Canada and over 2 million in theU.S. since its digital release. “TiK ToK” and Animal currently hold the #1 positions on iTunes Canada.
