REMIX KINGS STREETLAB ANNOUNCE RELEASE OF NEW SINGLE “RAT RACER”

streetlabFans of rock and dance music alike have New York City duo Streetlab to thank for creating catchy and danceable versions of some of their favorite tunes. Since 2001, friends Mark “Cosmo” Lamorg and Ryan Leary have been exploring the pastiche between classic rock tunes and their rump-shaking potential with an irresistible formula for electronic remixes. After years of re-inventing popular tracks such as The Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter” and Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son” the pair began venturing into writing original material, including “NYSound,” a single that has generated a multi-faceted degree of buzz and coverage since its 2008 release. Since gaining the support of various top-notch radio DJs and record labels, and receiving praise from media outlets from the likes of Billboard Magazine and URB.com, Streetlab is gearing up to release its full-length debut, slated for an April 2010 release.

Influenced by the music scene of the early 90’s, Lamorg and Leary started out remixing classic rock songs, creating tracks that defied the boundaries of music genre and ended up appealing to both rockers and club-goers. Their early remixes caught the attention of BBCRadio1’s Annie Nightingale, and in 2002, inspired indie-rock label Kanine Records to solicit the duo to contribute remixes of tracks by Mixel Pixel and Professor Murder. Astralwerks and Invisible Records followed suit, adding Streetlab mixes to their repertoires. The talented duo spent the next few years teaming up with New York DJs and club promoters, remixing tracks for Parisian acts PlayGround and Thieves Like Us, and creating their own versions of songs made famous by everyone from Nine Inch Nails and Hot Chip to Led Zeppelin and Bob Marley.

In early 2008, Streetlab released original material to the public for the first time on its website. The song “NYSound” instantly zeroed in on the eardrums of bloggers and music supervisors and everyone in between. Even if you’re not scouring blogs and digging through vinyl crates, there’s a good chance you heard Streetlab’s “NYSound” and bobbed your head along to the banger as it was featured in HBO’s EntourageCBS’ The Eleventh Hour, and on the Apple iPod/iPhone game Tap Tap Revenge 2.

Attention from record labels kept pouring in as Streetlab’s remix of indie titans Passion Pit’s “Sleephead” and Heartsrevolution’s “C.Y.O.A.” were picked up by online record label RCRD LBL and IHeartComix, respectively. Streetlab rode the waves of buzz momentum and secured performances alongside the likes of Chairlift, Hot Pink Delorean, and LA Riots.

With a endless list of remixes and a growing collection of original material to their name, Streetlab is gearing up to unleash a whirlwind of new songs with a slew of acclaimed vocalists. Brace yourselves for an album that is bombastic, immersive, and surpassing the parameters of BPM. They’re latest single “Rat Racer” is available on iTunes and will be the first single off of the debut full-length album set for release on April 20, 2010. In addition to some March tour dates, the duo will be kicking off 2010 with an in-store performance at the Best Buy in NYC’s Union Square.

COLUMBIA RECORDS PROUD TO RELEASE CONGRATULATIONS, THE NEW STUDIO ALBUM FROM MGMT

l_29558c596346454cb0466c8bdc702d97Congratulations Available In The US and Canada, Tuesday, April 13

One of 2010′s most eagerly anticipated new releases, Congratulations is the successor to MGMT’s Oracular Spectacular, the 2008 debut album which sold 80,000 copies in Canada and over 150,000 digital singles – establishing the band’s potential as a visionary force in pop music.

Congratulations is a collection of nine individual musical tours de force sequenced to flow with sonic and thematic coherence:  ”It’s Working,” “Song for Dan Treacy,” “Someone’s Missing,” “Flash Delirium,” “I Found a Whistle,” ”Siberian Breaks,” “Brian Eno,” “Lady Dada’s Nightmare,” and ”Congratulations.”

Produced by MGMT and Sonic Boom (Spacemen 3, E.A.R., Spectrum), Congratulations was recorded throughout 2009 in upstate New York, Malibu, and Brooklyn and features Andrew Vanwyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, MGMT’s core duo, performing with Matt Asti (bass, backing vocals), Will Berman (drums, backing vocals), and James Richardson (guitar, backing vocals), the band’s live line-up.

Congratulations offered MGMT the opportunity to work with a couple of their musical idols and influences including album co-producer Sonic Boom (Pete Kember) and Royal Trux front-woman Jennifer Herrema, who contributed guest vocals.  ”We’ve been lucky enough to meet and work with some of our all-time musical heroes,” Andrew says, marveling at MGMT’s good collaborative karma. ”It’s so great to be around such amazing and unusual musical minds.”

Ben and Andrew first met the mythic Sonic Boom (Spacemen 3, E.A.R., Spectrum) at a Spectrum show in London in February 2009 and wound up onstage jamming with the band on “Suicide,” a vintage Spacemen 3 track paying homage to another light in MGMT’s musical pantheon.

MGMT has become an international festival favorite with performances at South By Southwest, Coachella, Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo in the states and the Glastonbury extravaganza in the UK.  The band has toured with Beck, Yeasayer and Of Montreal, among others, while becoming a headline concert attraction in its own right.  MGMT is confirmed to appear at the 2010 Coachella and Bamboozle festivals.

With Congratulations, MGMT unlock a new musical world whirling in its own space/time grid infused with hints of music from the past five decades. Soulful and complex, Congratulations is a surprising and delightful quantum step forward in MGMT’s ongoing pop revolution.
