English rockers Kasabian have made history by becoming the first ever band to launch an England football shirt. The band revealed the new away shirt, tailored by Umbro, late last night in front of thousands of unsuspecting French fans during their encore at the iconic Paris Olympia theatre.
Frontman Tom Meighan wore the striking red shirt, which the England team will wear in South Africa this summer, during the encore as the band belted out their anthemic song ‘Fire’. Tom commented: “It’s brilliant to be the first band ever to launch an England shirt and where better to launch this particular kit than away from home? When Umbro approached us to represent England away we jumped at the chance as we are all football fans and loved the idea of revealing the England away shirt when playing in the country of one of our great footballing rivals.”
Traditionally, the first image released of a new England shirt is on players from the current England squad. Explaining the change in approach, Trevor Cairns, Umbro Chief Marketing Officer, said: “For the launch of the latest England away shirt Umbro decided to turn to other Englishmen who, like the England team, represent the nation abroad. We came up with the idea of approaching an English band on tour. Like a football team, they are ‘away’ when performing in other countries. Kasabian are as passionate about their football as their music so it’s brilliant that they agreed to wear the shirt in Paris.”
With the red shirt, the song ‘Fire’ and 2,
000 fans going mad for Kasabian’s encore, it was a memorable moment that will live long in the memory of everyone in attendance. Iconic images of the gig will be turned into a global advertising campaign for the brand, including a giant poster in Kasabian’s hometown of Leicester.
The shirt will be worn by the England squad for the first time during their friendly with Egypt at Wembley on March 3rd. The shirt itself is tailored out of three distinct panels consisting of different technical fabrics, each one aimed at providing players with the best possible advantage:
1. The front panel of the shirt is designed for comfort and therefore contains a high cotton content. It also features a sloping neck to increase ventilation to the player’s body
2. The back and side fabric includes a mesh to help ventilation and to take moisture away from the player’s skin
3. The sleeves, inspired by the 1966 England kit, have a high elastane content which allows maximum player movement
Through individual fitting sessions with the England team, Umbro were able to create a bespoke, smart fit for each player which will be on display at the world’s most iconic football tournament in South Africa this summer. Umbro will be hoping it helps the team set the World Cup on fire.
The new away kit will go on sale on March 3rd and is available to pre-order now. Go to www.umbro.com for more info.

CHROMEO CURRENTLY AT WORK CRAFTING THIRD STUDIO ALBUM, SLATED FOR SUMMER 2010
In a match pairing two pop music favorites of past and present, Daryl Hall & Chromeo have announced their joint performance on Friday June 11th at this year’s Bonnaroo Festival in Manchester, TN. A reprise of the widely successful collaboration first appearing on a 2008 episode of Daryl Hall’s web series “Live From Daryl’s House“, the Bonnaroo performance will also feature Hall and Chromeo performing together as one unit. A nod to Chromeo’s inimitable take on the blue-eyed sentiment of Hall’s music, the triumvirate of Daryl Hall, Dave 1, and P-Thugg of Chromeo will unite once again for a rare set of Hall & Oates and Chromeo classics.
Having recently released their new single “Night By Night” and a disco-infused mix album for the prestigiousDJ-Kicks series, Dave 1 and P-Thugg have been laboriously clocking hours in the studio for their highly anticipated third studio album (see them in the lab on their newly launched blog). Currently slated for an August 2010 release, the follow-up to 2008′s breakout album Fancy Footwork will raise the bar yet again for the electrofunk duo famously known as the best Jewish/Arab partnership in history.

“Africa”, “Carrera”, “Yalla Habibi” - all three songs have become monster hits for Lebanese-Canadian singer/songwriter Karl Wolf. Now, Karl is ready to build on this success with his next single “Hurting” which is being delivered to radio stations across the country this week. ”Hurting” shows a whole new, serious side of Karl: it’s a powerful song that’s very close to his heart and shows signs of being another out of the box smash. Accompanying the track is Karl’s best video to date, which stars Nicole Holness from MTV Canada and which multi-talented Karl directed himself. You can catch a sneak peek here:
2009 was a stellar year for Karl at Canadian radio as evidenced by his 3 nominations at the Canadian Radio Music Awards: Best New Group/Solo Artist of the Year (Mainstream AC), Best New Group/Solo Artist of the Year (Hot AC), and Fan’s Choice. Karl will be performing at the Awards, which are taking place at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto as part of Canadian Music Week 2010; the awards will be handed out during a gala luncheon.
In addition to the CRMA nominations, Wolf has also been nominated for three SOBA (Sounds of Blackness Awards) in Quebec: Anglophone Single of the Year ”Africa”, Anglophone Best Artist or Group and Anglophone Best R&B Artist or Group. Those awards will be presented on February 28th at the Outremont Theatre in Montreal.
Last, but certainly not least, Karl has announced that he has just recently signed a deal with Universal Republic Records to release his album Nightlife in the United States. Speaking about the signing, Avery Lipman (Co-President and COO of Universal Republic Records), said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Karl Wolf. His distinctive sound and international appeal makes him a force to be reckoned with. The entire company joins me in welcoming Karl Wolf to Universal Republic Records.”
The first single from the US release is “Africa”, which is already being added at radio stations across the country. “Africa” was a triple platinum, Top 10 hit in Canada and will surely repeat that triumph south of the border. Coupled with his successes in Dubai, Japan, Lebanon, Egypt, and of course, Canada, Karl is poised to take the rest of the world by storm!
