Only an artist as adventurous and prolific as D-Sisive could create an album as exciting as Vaudeville. And only an album like Vaudeville could attract an internationally celebrated troubadour like Ron Sexsmith to make his first appearance on a hip-hop album.
Step right up ladies and gentlemen… and welcome to the crazy world of D-Sisive’s Vaudeville.
D-Sisive is a one man music machine cruising to the hum of his own engine. After last year’s triumphant return to the hip-hop limelight with both his Polaris Prize nominated gem Let The Children Die, and his second classic full length of 2009, the acclaimed Jonestown, one would think the accomplished Toronto MC would be content to rest on his ever-expanding laurels. Not D-Sisive. The enigmatic one is back – and this time taking things to an entirely new level with the epic Vaudeville.
Produced in tandem with Andrew ‘Fresh Kils’ Kilgour and featuring a surprise cameo from legendary Canadian songsmith, Ron Sexsmith, Vaudeville is filled with incredible hip hop tracks, and slight of hand tricks. Smoke and mirror gags mixed with punch lines, and intense stories. An album that showcases the wide variety of influences and themes which only an enigmatic master of ceremonies (or possibly snake oil salesman?) like D-Sisive could pull off.
“Vaudeville is definitely new territory for me,” D-Sisive says. “It was extremely challenging. The last thing I wanted to create was a replica of my previous releases. My mind doesn’t operate the same anymore. I’m happier, older and have tapped into my inner love for the music of Michael Buble. You can’t listen to ‘Haven’t Met You Yet’ then write songs for the end credits of Celebrity Rehab.”
A happy D-Sisive? Well, as happy as song titles like “Percocet” “The Night My Baby Died” and “The Riot Song” allow him to be. It’s no secret that D-Sisve has long looked outside of the confines of traditional hip-hop to find inspiration and this go-round is no different. But D-Sisive and Ron Sexsmith? Together on the same track? No one saw that coming. “Working with Ron Sexsmith was incredible,” D-Sisive explains. “Very surreal. I’ve been harassing him for years to get on a song with me. Thank god restraining orders expire.”
And despite his prolific nature, it seems unlikely we’ll ever know everything that motivates D-Sisive. Still through all the smoke and mirrors, the tricks and the treats, it’s a love of rocking the microphone unlike few others today that sustains D-Sisive’s enduring appeal.
Vaudeville. The name itself conjures up images of past glories, shiny suits and fast talk, half-remembered from days long gone by. Sometimes it seems hip hop may go the way of Vaudeville, a fallen empire rendered irrelevant by the cruelties of time. MC D-Sisive however, b-boy to the bone, refuses to go down without a fight. Streets, backstage, city parks, it doesn’t matter…
“It’s no secret that my work is fueled by beef.” D-Sisive warns. “With the media. With gang members. With other artists. It’s part of my daily routine, and always pops up when least expected. Like the time Tom Cochrane pulled a pistol on me backstage at Roy Thomson Hall. He asked me ‘You ever talk with a gun in your mouth?’ Happens all of the time. Alan Frew (Glass Tiger) holding a butterfly knife to my throat in Union Station, while asking me ‘You ever talk with a gun in your mouth?’ And the time I emailed Jim Cuddy (Blue Rodeo) to be on Vaudeville. His reply, ‘Sure. Oh, wait! You’re not Sean Desman! Fu*k you. JC. — PS You ever talk with a gun in your mouth?’ Why do people keep asking me that?”
D-Sisive – Vaudeville, is out on URBNET Records in Canada on June 15th and USA on July 27th.

Legendary hip-hop personality Ed Lover is once again making waves as his riotous yet biting C’mon Son phenomenon continues to sweep across the country. No subject is too sacred, no person is impervious to ‘C’mon Son’ as Ed Lover offers his witty insights on sports, music, movies, politics, and pop culture in his webisode series on http://cmonsononline.com/ that currently spans twelve entertaining episodes.
The ‘C’Mon Son’ webisodes are quickly ingraining themselves into today’s pop culture. Each webisode features Ed Lover’s commentary and amusingly cutting observations on recent events in the world around him. Diddy, Usher, Juelz Santana, Jim Jones, and DJ Khaled are but a few of the celebrities who have endorsed the movement and made appearances on the show to hold up the infamous cardboard ‘C’mon Son’ sign. It is not only the hip-hop community that has caught ‘C’mon Son’ fever; last season NFL star Chad OchoCinco of the Cincinnati Bengals celebrated a touchdown reception by displaying a cardboard sign bearing Ed Lover’s signature slogan.
‘C’mon Son’ has also spawned a community of its own on Ed Lover’s website, as fans across the country routinely submit pictures of themselves with makeshift cardboard ‘C’mon Son’ signs to the site’s gallery, engage in conversations in the site’s forums and visit the ‘C’mon Son’ store to purchase limited edition t-shirts and accessories. “The ‘C’Mon Son’ catch phrase has quickly become a phenomenon – both with Ed’s listeners and fans and amongst pop culture enthusiasts,” says Ed Lover’s business partner Michael ‘Blue’ Williams of Family Tree Entertainment, a division of Primary Wave Management. “We are looking to super serve the masses with multiple ways they can ways to support the ‘C’Mon Son’ movement.” Having already made an impact on radio, television, and now on the internet, Ed Lover is currently preparing to take his exciting new endeavor into the mobile phone world, as well, as he readies the release of a series of voicebacks and voicetones featuring a variety of ‘C’mon Son’-isms. In addition to selling mobile content, the “C’Mon Son” brand will soon extend into exclusive merchandise.

Those brilliant little buggers, The Loops of Fury have done it again! The dynamic duo have been busy beavering away in their Brisbane bunker over the past few weeks, crafting some jaw-dropping new electro-techno bombs as they gear up for a move over to the warmer climes of the UK to enjoy the delights of ‘the great English summer’ (yeah right!).
Money to the Motionless Vol.1 is the name of the mix (quite what this means or why, we have no idea, but we’ve been too busy soundtracking our week with the stellar sounds within to care too much), and we hear that this is just the first in a regular series of mixes you can expect during the course of the summer.

Two of the world’s most legendary producers have joined forces to create a show like no other. With a catalogue of hits that includes the biggest and brightest names in music today, these two legendary producers are putting it down on the decks as they play off each other in a display of skills and selection in true sound clash style.
Just Blaze is one of the most creative forces in the game. Having cut his teeth in the late 90’s creating underground bangers for the likes of Buckshot, his distinctive sound soon caught the ear of the major players in the game and he soon had beats featured on albums from the likes of Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg, Big Pun & Jadakiss. However, it was as an in-house producer for Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella Records imprint where he initially became a household name, producing instant classics for Kanye West, Cam’ron, Freeway, Memphis Bleek, Beanie Sigel; and of course the main man himself, Jay-Z, who has featured Just Blaze’s epic production on six of his last seven albums–all of which have gone platinum!
The Jersey born producer, also known as the Megatron Don, has a distinctive sound drenched in soul that still bangs so hard it rocks dance-floors across the globe while simultaneously influencing many of the biggest producers in the game. Just Blaze will undoubtedly be treating a packed house to a fantastic mix of his own productions and the influences behind them in this exclusive sound clash set.
The Alchemist, as the name would suggest, has a knack of turning things into gold, in his case samples and loops. Having got his start in the production game under the tutelage of two of the biggest names in the game (DJ Premier and DJ Muggs), this California native has made a name for himself for his trademark rough Boom Bap style hits. Through his work on albums for underground favorites Dilated Peoples & Defari he came to the attention of Mobb Deep who chose to feature his beats on their classic Murda Muzik LP; and he has has not looked back since.
With a resume that now reads like a who’s who of Hip-Hop’s elite; including work with Nas, Ghostface, Lil-Wayne, Emimem (The Alchemist serves as his tour DJ), Big Pun, Fat Joe & Raekwon to just name a few.
Just Blaze and Alchemist’s “Soundclash Tour” promises to be a legendary performance from two of the most respected names in Hip-Hop history; its also one that needs to be both seen and heard to be believed.

BUSINESS CASUAL OUT AUGUST 17th ON ATLANTIC RECORDS
FULL US TOUR THIS SUMMER TO BE ANNOUNCED IN MAY, LOLLAPALOOZA AND BONNAROO
This summer, the New York/Montreal-based duo Chromeo have dancefloors, funk fanatics, and a growing following of die-hard fans primed for another round of hits with the release of Business Casual, out August 17th on Atlantic Records.
In the sincere tradition of 70′s and 80′s oft-overlooked pop progenitors such as Hall & Oates, Zapp, and Rick James, the follow-up to 2007′s breakout album Fancy Footwork leads the way for the future of sentimental-yet-intelligent electronic pop music. Mixed by longtime Chromeo collaborator Phillipe Zdar and featuring artwork by the multifaceted Paris design collective Surface 2 Air, Business Casual marks a continuation of the fierce funk jams that Chromeo do best – as well as a new sophisticated, mature direction with more lovers’ ballads woven into the mix.
The pair will also hit the road this July and August on a full 23-date US tour, including festival appearances at Lollapalooza and most notably a joint performance with Daryl Hall at this year’s Bonnaroo Festival on June 11th. A full list of tour dates will be announced next month. Until then, be sure to check Chromeo’s recently launched blog for frequent updates, exclusive material, clever wit, and more.
Academy Award® Winning Producer Graham King Turns His Focus to Television, Working With the Producers of‘The Tudors’ to Tell This Timeless and Powerful Legendary Tale
Irish-Canadian Co-Production Is Set to Air in 2011 on Starz in the U.S.
Starz continues to bring unique event programming to audiences in the U.S., securing rights to “Camelot,” a wholly original approach to the timeless Arthurian legend, from the creative team behind such landmark series as “The Tudors,” “Life on Mars” and “Torchwood,” as well as critically acclaimed film The Departed and upcoming The Tourist. Originated by Academy Award® nominated Ecosse Films (Mrs. Brown, Becoming Jane Nowhere Boy,)Starz plans to air the 10-episode series in the first half of 2011.
“Camelot” will be based on Thomas Malory’s 15th century book,” Le Morte d’Arthur” – still considered the definitive work on the subject. But that’s only a starting point;“Camelot” will weave authenticity into a modern telling of the Arthur legends that is relatable to contemporary audiences.
Academy Award® winning producer Graham King (The Tourist, The Departed, Gangs of New York, The Aviator) along with Tim Headington and newly appointed GK-TV President Craig Cegielski will serve as Executive Producers. Additional Executive Producers include Morgan O’Sullivan (The Count of Monte Cristo, The Tudors) and James Flynn of the Irish production company Octagon, Michael Hirst (The Tudors) and Douglas Rae (Nowhere Boy, Becoming Jane, The Waterhorse) of UK’s Ecosse Films. The series is being written by Chris Chibnall (“Life on Mars,” “Torchwood”). John Weber from Take 5 Productions will serve as the Canadian producer.
The series will be shot in Ireland, with post-production to be completed in Canada. Starz has all U.S. rights – including home entertainment and digital distribution – to “Camelot”; GK-TV will handle the rest of the world.
“`The story of Arthur isn’t history, it’s mythology, and Camelot isn’t a place but an idea of hope that has resonated intensely at different times throughout history,” Starz, LLC, President and CEO Chris Albrecht said. “The creative team has envisioned a highly entertaining and distinctly original TV program that fits in perfectly with our lineup, coming on the heels of our successful original series ‘Spartacus: Blood and Sand’ and the returning comedy ‘Party Down,’ along with our recent acquisition of the event series based on Ken Follett’s ‘The Pillars of the Earth.’ ”
“GK-TV was started with the goal of producing compelling cinematic quality programming for television,” said Graham King. “The legend of King Arthur is a fascinating story that we couldn’t be more excited to have as our first television project.” Added Craig Cegielski: “Our goal for this project is to bring a fresh and contemporary take to one of the most classic medieval tales. In keeping with the GK-TV vision, we have assembled top level writers and producers to help tell the universal story of Camelot on a global scale.”
“I am excited to be part of this project not only because it is an amazing story, but it allows me to collaborate once again with Chris Albrecht,” said Morgan O’Sullivan.
“Camelot is one of the greatest stories ever told and we are thrilled to be working with Starz and Graham King on such an ambitious production,” said Ecosse Films CEO Douglas Rae.
Casting is underway for the production, with the cast expected to feature fresh talent combined with established faces who will enhance the high quality of the new series. Production is slated to begin in June of this year.
