A new podcast series has emerged from the east end of Toronto, featuring two of the sharpest music pundits in all of the GTA.
The Deaf Ears Podcast is hosted by Cam Gordon (Peace/Chart) and Ryan B. Patrick (Exclaim!), and offers a unique listening experience for Canadian music fans. Each episode chooses a singular musical act to celebrate and skewer, as Cam and Ryan riff madly on their relative merits, the quality of their music videos, their eating habits and anything else that comes to mind. “The Deaf Ears M.O. is fairly simple,” says Cam. “We’re trying to replicate the sound and feel of two friends sitting in a bar, talking about music in an unstructured, freeform and half drunk fashion. It’s basically Behind the Music for people who hate Behind the Music.”
To give you a taste of what to expect, Episode 4 focuses on Kim Mitchell with Cam and Ryan debating whether the video for “Patio Lanterns” was racist while Episode 3 targets George Clinton and the amazing fact he’s still alive. Aerosmith, David Bowie and Public Enemy are just a few of the other artists who come under attack and the pair promise regular updates as the series morphs and grows.
The first eight episodes of The Deaf Ears Podcast are currently available for download at http://depodcast.wordpress.com with new episodes posted weekly this fall and beyond.

The collector’s edition will be available on December 7 with the rest of the TRON: Evolution video game portfolio before the “TRON: Legacy” film hits U.S. theaters on December 17 in Disney Digital 3D™ and IMAX® 3D.
Developed by Propaganda Games, Disney Interactive Studios’ action and role-playing game studio in Vancouver, British Columbia, TRON: Evolution is set during the era between the two TRON films, “TRON” (1982) and “TRON: Legacy.” TRON: Evolution conveys the story of significant events within the TRON mythology. The game features an epic adventure across a massive digital world filled with high-mobility disc-based combat and advanced light cycles.
TRON: Evolution is one of the keys to unlocking the TRON mythology. The game’s story takes place before the “TRON: Legacy” events and provides insight into the film’s past. As an integrated entertainment experience, the film will reference elements of the game’s story. Fans will want to play the game to learn more about the TRON mythology seen in the film, but each entertainment experience will stand on its own.
Disney Mobile’s TRON app (www.itunes.com/app/tron) for the iPhone® and iPod® touch is free to download and features an all-new version of the classic Tanks game from the Tron Arcade. The app also features “TRON: Legacy” trailers, pre-sale order information for the TRON: Evolution game, and it will be updated as the premiere of the “TRON: Legacy” film in December draws closer with additional video, music, and free and premium games.

THE WORLD PREMIERE OF THE HALO™ BALLET and more!
2010 marks the fifth edition of the Music Gallery’s X AVANT New Music Festival running from October 16 to 24 in Toronto, Canada. Guest Curator Gregory Oh explores the theme of “What Is Real?” through his programming – looking at notions of authenticity in music. Can objectivity and art co-exist? How do our preconceptions influence what we hear? Through nine days of dynamic programming, X AVANT V runs the gamut from Detroit techno to modern dance and video game mash-ups, from creative re-workings of Wagner and Schoenberg to roof-raising rave-ups by post-punk pioneers.
All access festival passes are available now for $75 via Ticketweb.ca. Festival concerts take place at The Music Gallery, SPK (Polish Combatants Hall) and The Garrison.
Program highlights include:
· World Premiere of Halo™ Ballet, an original Toronto production featuring modern dance in the “Halo” video game environment, choreographed by Julia Aplin to new music by Aaron Gervais
· Canadian exclusive club show by American post-punk pioneers Mission of Burma, featured in Michael Azerrad’s book, Our Band Could Be Your Life
· The 50 Minute Ring – Wagner’s 15 hour Ring Cycle performed in 50 minutes, by Vancouver multi-media artist Myra Davies
· Festival opening night party featuring a live A/V performance by Jeff Mills, one of the legends of Detroit techno
· French vocalist Donatienne Michel-Dansac performs the Complete Récitations by Georges Aperghis, one of the most epic feats of contemporary vocal music – only the second time this has ever been performed in history!
