Chris Young The Rapper Teams Up With World Famous DJ’s Clinton Sparks and DJ Benzi on Value Pack 2 Mixtape
Bananabeat Records’ featured artist, Chris Young the Rapper releases his latest project, Value Pack 2: Cream & Sugar. Renowned producer, radio personality, and recording artist Clinton Sparks is hosting the release, which dropped on April 20th alongside Chris Young’s performance at Bananajam at The Roxy Theater in LA. DJ Benzi has also joined the team to create a fluid mixtape of Young’s new jams.
The second installment of the Value Pack Project is a slick blend of a variety of genres. Young’s distinctive styling ties everything together, effortlessly transitioning from the laid-back SoCal vibes of “Postin’ West Coastin’” into the dynamic, electronically driven, “Fancy Things.”
“This isn’t my year, this is my decade,” exclaims Young. After having worked with hip-hop heavyweights Del The Funky Homosapien, MC Wax, and DJ Skee, who presented Young’s 1991 EP, Value Pack 2 gives fans a glimpse of Young’s unique ability to smoothly assemble a range of material all on one record.
“While the cream is just pure classic hip-hop, leaving right off the 1991 time machine and leading us to the sugar, the sugar is electronica, the sugar is dubstep with samples of ‘The Little Mermaid’ and we even mixed a song from my debut album into the concoction,” said Young.
“Chris has come a long way since the ‘Mood Swing EP.’ I’m really excited about how much he has been able to accomplish in such a short time and Value Pack 2 is another great demonstration of his limitless potential as an artist,” said Cisco Adler, founder of Bananabeat Records.

Canadian Ape Alliance and Nova Music Group present Congo Classrooms for a Brighter Future – A Concert to Raise Funds for School Construction in the Democratic Republic of Congo
On Thursday May 19, 2011, Canadian Ape Alliance and Nova Music Group present Congo Classrooms for a Brighter Future, a concert to raise much-needed funds for further construction of the Kahuzi-Biega Environmental School in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This amazing event will feature performances and special guest appearances by some of Canada’s most talented artists and celebrities including Glenn Lewis, Justin Nozuka, Kardinal Offishall, Ivana Santilli, Slakah the Beatchild, Ayah, Art of Fresh, Saidah Baba Talibah, Melanie Durrant, Wade O. Brown and more!
As a result of the 6-year civil war, over 5.2 million children in the DR Congo receive no education. The Canadian Ape Alliance recognized a need and began laying the groundwork for the Kahuzi-Biega Environmental School in 2003. In Phase I, funded by the Youssef-Warren Foundation, three classrooms were built and opened in 2007 for kindergarten and early childhood education. Now, in order to allow these children to proceed to primary school, it is imperative that Phase II be launched.
“The Kahuzi-Biega Environmental School differs from other African schools because of the years of unrest in the region, but in spite of these difficult conditions the school has successfully been kept running. The people of this region face many other challenges as well including environmental degradation due to illegal mining and logging, roaming armed militias, burning of the forest for charcoal, and the challenge of basic subsistence. It is therefore vital to the long-term survival of the people of the region that the school not only be kept open but expand to help keep up with the needs of the community”, said Dr. Kerry Bowman, president and founder of the Canadian Ape Alliance.
“Its incredible to be able to come together with this group of talented artists who can share their God given gifts while helping to give the gift of education to children; something we here in Canada don’t have to worry about for our own children and can easily take for granted”, said Grammy Nominated and Juno Award winning R&B singer Glenn Lewis about his participation in the fundraiser.
Proceeds from Congo Classrooms for a Brighter Future will go directly to the Phase II construction of the Kahuzi-Biega Environmental School.

BIG K.R.I.T. ‘King’s Blues’
For those of you who may have thought that “Time Machine” is the best track off of BIG K.R.I.T.’s recently released mix tape ReturnOf4Eva, and have yet to hear the album, will be amazed to discover how many tracks off the collection are on or above that level. On “King’s Blues,” K.R.I.T. drops a melancholy, mellow, and mud-thick beat full of dusty drum loops, heavily filtered guitar licks, late night sax bleats, and an Erykah Badu sample. A stoned jam about the burden of adult responsibility, “King’s Blues” is yet another example of why ReturnOf4Eva is one of the best rap albums, mix tapes or otherwise, of the year.

A-Trak’Ray Ban Vision’ (Feat. Cyhi Da Prynce) (Luckybeard Remix)
Luckybeard’s frenetic remix of A-Trak’s sunglasses-at-night anthem “Ray Ban Vision” takes the line, delivered in Cyhi Da Prynce’s casual croon, “I’m like Tom Cruise off of Top Gun” and manipulates it into an Alvin and the Chipmunks squeal, then loops the phrase again and again until it transforms from antagonizing repetition into a kind of hypnotic trance. The original song picks up briefly for about a minute in the middle, then fades out again abruptly to allow that retro proclamation to return once again, even more forceful and intense than before.
