Hailing from Paris, France, producer Astronote is quickly becoming one of the most respected new producers in Hip-Hop. The newest member of the A-Side Worldwide roster, Astronote is easily one of the most well rounded producers we’ve come across, with the ability to turn out top notch Hip-Hop, R&B, Funk, Soul & Pop tracks with or without samples. Having already built a resume that includes working with notable artists such as Talib Kweli, Jamall Bufford (Buff1), Invincible, Donwill of Tanya Morgan, Joell Ortiz, Guilty Simpson and Mayer Hawthorne, Astronote is poised to take his own place in the game.
The mixtape displays their growth as artists and individuals with reflective ballads while staying true to their trademark style of rap. Since 1988 features production from Bass Line, Kromatic and Grammy-nominated producers, T-Minus and Tone Mason.
Oh My, the first single off of Since 1988, has secured constant radio rotation throughout the city. A-Game has remained consistent with consecutive hit singles. Go Head Shawty received an esteemed online response, generating over half a million hits on Youtube and Watchu Saying? soared to the top of Canadian music charts.
‘Foot faithful…In the past month you’ve had to endure the collapse of Kobe’s Lakers, the dissolution of Ah-nold’s marriage, and some awkward IMF pawing. As if that weren’t enough, Harold Camping’s rapture prediction proved to be nothing more than a spiritual wet fart. And so, you owe it to yourself–don’t you?–to enjoy the one constant in your life–another stellar PUSSYFOOT.
The (ir)regular roster of ‘Foot lunatics close out May in memorable fashion. In a phallic ‘Sagelike Advice’ round-up, EDDIE ROUSE bestows his typically iniquitous info to three male listeners whose wayward Johnsons have gotten them into nuthin’ but trouble. Next, MISS SHELLEY carefully nukes a spicy Tex-Mex dish in the PF microwave. Her May obit centers on a TV meal mogul whose south of the border ways have left the food industry forever drenched in tasty guac. And lastly, at the risk of sounding straight-up scatalogical, our ‘Blake at the Movies’ segment is freakishly phlegm-filled. An under the weather BLAKE EVERETT quarantines two ’80s-set love films; the Ashley Greene indie ‘Skateland’ and the recently re-released Demme classic ‘Something Wild’.
Our keynote guest this month wears many hats–one of which being a vintage fireman’s helmet. TONY VERA (aka ‘The Fireman’) is a gifted street performer who first gained notoriety in the late ’70s. Emerging from NYC’s fabled Washington Square Park scene that gave birth to talents like wire walker Philippe Petit, raunch comic Charlie Barnett, and idiosyncratic actor Rick Aviles, Tony has wowed audiences with his bizarre fire-breathing and chair-balancing act. While Petit turned to increasingly elaborate stunt work and both Barnett and Aviles sadly succumbed to AIDS, Mr. Vera chose to set up shop on the Venice Beach boardwalk. Though his dangerous act has officially been retired, he now enjoys a second life as a paparazzo and news stringer. Tony sits down with Matt and Matt to discuss his career as a performer, the sting of 9/11, and the severe beating he received from an out of control Mike Tyson.
All that plus a playlist of May music from folks like Peter Grudzien, White Hinterland, Comus, Mia X, and Pip Proud.

Have you wrapped your ears around the debut of Aesop Rock, Rob Sonic, and DJ Big Wiz’s new group Hail Mary Mallon? The album is as infectious as the disease they’re named after, (Mary Mallon being the first identified healthy carrier of thyphoid fever, as well as a chef to many feverish patrons). Fortunately, Aes, Rob, and Wiz made better career choices and are only infecting minds with solid beats and entertaining lines.
After the Cambridge, MA native rapper K-The-I??? immersed himself deep in the L.A. beat scene and spent innumerable months aloof abroad, he emerged an anomalous and innovative beat maker. Gleaning insight from the work of Thavius Beck, producer for his last Big Dada released album Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow, K-The-I??? has taken the Launchpad/Ableton style of beatmaking in his own direction. NME said about his last album, “Living within an architecture of alien sounds, K-The-I??? still could not be any more welcoming.” However, the architecture now his own, as well as the interior design, K-The-I??? is truly in his own element. Synesthesia is K-The-I???’s first instrumental album and a testament to his growth as an artist.

Two months ago, artists, fans, and industry folks from around the world converged on Austin, Texas for SXSW, with 1,000′s of performances throughout the week. For a few select artists, the occasion also offered the opportunity to come together and collaborate with peers, and that’s precisely what happened for Tanya Morgan, who came together with Che Grand, King Mez, Skyzoo, and producer Veterano, to record this brand new song, “Without Hands,” which will be a part of The Official SXSW Mixtape, dropping May 31st at DJBooth.net.
The song was recorded on the Unique Squared Mobile Studio, a state of the art recording studio contained within a massive, 45-foot tour bus, as a part of a three-day initiative to bring artists together to collaborate, fostering an environment that allowed artists to harness their creativity. The track was recorded and mixed by Fokis, and three-peat Scribble Jam DJ Battle champion DJ Presyce handled all cuts and scratches.
The Official SXSW Mixtape, which also features Ro Spit, Kosha Dillz, Khaleel, Nick Javas, J-Live, Apollo Brown, IMAKEMADBEATS, Dynamite Brothers, and D.R.U.G.S. Kels of TN2 Productions will be available for free download beginning May 31st at DJBooth.net.

Souls Of Mischief are excited to announce that they will be one of premier performing acts for the 2011 Rock The Bells Festival. The legendary group, comprised of MCs A-Plus, Phesto, Opio and Tajai, will be performing at each of the scheduled Rock The Bells dates. The four shows will be on August 20th in Los Angeles, August 27th in San Francisco, September 3rd in New York, and September 10th in Boston. This is the 8th time Guerilla Union has put on the acclaimed summer hip-hop festival, and the first time Souls of Mischief will be performing as a part of the traveling festival.
Making things more exciting, not only will all members of Souls Of Mischief be accounted for, but they will be performing their most celebrated album, ’93 Til Infinity, in its entirety for the first time. “It’s going to be really cool to do the album full out for the first time,” says Tajai. “We’ve been touring for the last 20 years, so we’ve performed some of the songs a lot, but performing the full album will be an entirely new experience.” And the album’s performance is anticipated to be as epic as it is ephemeral, according to Tajai, who adds, “It’s going to be a real treat for the fans too, since we probably won’t do it ever again.”
Other notable acts will also be joining Souls Of Mischief, performing their own classics in their entirety, including Lauryn Hill playing The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Nas performing Illmatic, Mobb Deep running through The Infamous, and many more. “Guerilla Union is providing the ultimate platform for real hip-hop that isn’t happening anywhere else,” says Tajai. “Seeing names like Mobb Deep, GZA, and Nas… that’s some real army jacket rap! It takes me back to an era when New York was still raw.” Along with these show-stopping performances, Talib Kweli and Mos Def will be reuniting to perform as the duo Black Star and Wu-Tang Clan visionary RZA will be hosting a “36 Chambers Stage,” to discuss everything from Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) to martial arts to new acts.
In addition to reuniting for this special string of Rock The Bells performances, Souls Of Mischief members A-Plus and Opio are hard at work putting the finishing touches on a variety of their own projects. Up first, A-Plus will be releasing a series of four EP’s, each sampling and revisiting the catalog of a legendary rock group. The first EP will take on the music of the Red Hot Chili Peppers with a project called Pepperspray. Opio is also putting the finishing touches on project, his sophomore solo LP Vulture’s Wisdom 2.0, which will be released in the coming months via the crew’s Hieroglyphics Imperium label.

Smokey Robotic’s “Uptown” was recently remixed by Konrad Old Money in his distinctive Kurudo style with another great video from them to match. Could you imagine if the group lost Smokey? I couldn’t. Good thing they found him by the end of the video.

“Take U Home” featuring Too $hort, Kokane & Daz Dillinger, produced by Meech Wells is from Snoop’s latest album “Doggumentary”. This remix is again produced by Meech Wells, co-produced by Sean Wells, and mixed by Meech Wells. The new remix also contains a new hook from Kokane.
Being the son of Motown legend Mary Wells may have helped jumpstart Meech Wells career, but the West Coast rap producer quickly proved his talent and eventually aligned himself with Snoop Dogg, another relationship that definitely didn’t hurt his career. Before being Snoop’s producer of choice during the late ’90s and early 2000s, Wells began his career as part of a funk band called Trey Lewd that also featured Tracey Lewis, George Clinton’s son. Going on to produce records for multi-platinum artists around the world, such as Snoop Dogg, Shaquille O’Neil, Mark Morrison and No Limit Records family.
