MP3: BBU – “Beau Sia”

Today marks the long-awaited arrival of BBU’s brand new mixtape, bell hooks. The tape, presented by Mad Decent and mixed by DJ Benzi, will be released by Mishka Records, but before then, the four-man Chicago-based group is excited to release the album’s final leak, “Beau Sia.”

For BBU, the song, which premiered on the Mad Decent blog, is all about breaking the preconceived notions and often-false labels placed on socially- and politically-minded artists. “When you’re ‘Conscious’ or ‘Revolutionary,’ fans and media like to put you in boxes,” notes Epic. “This song was us stepping out of that box and just having fun.”

To do that, the group called on producer Stefan Ponce (“He actually helped us out a lot with this record,” says Illekt), who supplied the guys with a rowdy, up-tempo beat that plays to BBU’s Juke sensibilities, and, most of all, let’s the group get loose, as Epic, Illekt, and Jasson Perez take turns kicking school-yard game to the ladies, kepping it fun but smart. “Girl, we can kick it, but you gotta get on my level, intellectually,” remarks Illekt, with Epic joking, “Yes, conscious folk do be fucking. Where do you think all these little vegan dread-locked babies come from!”

Ice Palace by Oxvylu * NEW CHIPTUNES

Hey Oxvylu just finished his 5th album called “Ice Palace”. Since it gets wintery and icy in Canada where the tunes were recorded, the title makes sense. Ice Palace is different from other “Videogamesoundingmusic” releases by Oxvylu, this album features a heavier sound with some added distortion and dark undertones. There’s just enough variety in the mix to space-out & rock-out, it will have you hitting the repeat button or even share within your social network. This winter please don’t slip on the ice and break anything, listen to Ice Palace instead!
