UFC on FOX **MAIN EVENT AND CO-MAIN EVENT FLASH QUOTES** FOUR 205lbs CONTENDERS HAVE CHANCE TO BOOK UFC TITLE SHOT ‘Winning isn’t enough’
Four of the most dangerous contenders in the light heavyweight division each have the chance to secure a shot at the UFC world title by putting on a devastating performance at UFC On FOX Saturday night (live at 8pm ET/5pm PT).
First, in the co-main event from Los Angeles’ STAPLES Center, former light heavyweight champion and karate expert Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida battles Ryan “Darth” Bader, a thunderous puncher and former NCAA All-American wrestler.
Then, in the five round main event, one of the greatest of all time, former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, fights on free TV when he throws down with a resurging Brandon “The Truth” Vera.
UFC President Dana White confirmed whichever contender looks the most impressive in victory this Saturday will face the winner of the September 1 Jon Jones vs. Dan Henderson UFC title showdown.
Dana White said: “When the fans speak, we listen. So whoever scores the best win, whoever gets the fans excited by going out there on Saturday and looking the most impressive, he will get the winner of Jones vs. Henderson. It is down to what these four guys do Saturday night in the Octagon. Winning isn’t enough, they’ve got to win impressively. Any one of these four fighters can take things into their own hands and make a title shot happen.”
“Shogun” Rua said: “I think this fight with Vera is going to be a great fight while it lasts. Vera is a very good striker, and I think this fight will take place standing up and will be a great war for the fans. I know winning isn’t enough; I have to look very impressive and I am planning on a fast knockout like I did against Forrest Griffin. I am not underestimating Vera, he has skills and has a lot to prove, but I have skills and want my title back.
“I want the winner of Jones vs. Henderson. The fight I had with Henderson was a great fight, the fight of the year, and it was a very close fight. I am okay with that, it was a great fight. But the loss to Jones I can’t live with. I could have done so much better and I want to fight him again. First, though, I have to beat Brandon Vera and winning isn’t good enough. I have to be very impressive, but that it what I have trained to do.”
Brandon Vera said: “I’m so ready for this. This is ‘The Truth’ resurging. I feel like I have won the lottery twice, not just fighting a legend like Shogun on FOX, but having the chance to get a title shot. ‘The Truth’ is going to shine though. Shogun is the one who has everything to lose. This is Shogun’s showcase, his spotlight, his time and I’m going to take all that off him. I’m taking his name, his title runs, everything he is, and I’m taking it all for myself.
“The guy is a legend, man. When you fight this guy you’re not just fighting some of the best skills in the world, some champion who can mess you up bad with kicks and knees, you are fighting a sick guy who absolutely will not stop coming after you. Beating Shogun – and beating him the way I want – corrects all the mistakes I’ve made and wipes away all the bad performances. Beating Frank Mir is probably my best performance, but people don’t realize that was nothing compared to what I do all the time in the gym. I’m going to show off what ‘The Truth’ really is on FOX.”
Lyoto Machida: “I respect Ryan Bader very much as a fighter. He will pose some great problems but I believe my training camp has been one of the best of my career. My striking is very sharp, and I’ve worked on my wrestling because Bader is a strong wrestler. I’ve made some radical changes in my training, although karate will always be my main focus. I am getting back on the road to the title. I know what I have to do, and I am ready for this opportunity.”
Ryan Bader: “This is it, time to show what I can do. I’m better than ever; I used to be just a wrestler with a big overhand right, but I’ve added many more skills to my game now. Fights against Rampage and Brilz have shown my stand-up is a lot more technical and smooth. The win over Rampage felt like the start of a new chapter. After dominating Rampage my confidence went through the roof and I’m now more than happy to face anybody in the light heavyweight division.
“Machida is a former champion but so were three out of my last four opponents. I’m no longer looking at these guys as fighters I used to watch on TV– they’re now my peers, my rivals. Machida is no different. No one is invincible and it is now my time to beat him and go on to a title shot.”

Sushi cost denier BLAKE EVERETT starts the party with a review of one of the most divisive film-missives in recent memory, ‘Jiro Dreams of Sushi’. Tune-in to recall Blake’s blustery take on the fishy feature length doc and stick around for several shouts-out to America’s favorite chili parlor. Next, a replay of the debut of our demure death decrier MYSTI MAYH3M. When O.G. obit obsessive MISS SHELLEY passed on (professionally, that is) earlier this year, Mysti scooped up her spot–and eulogized her predecessor in one fell swoop! And then, we end on the poignant and profanity-filled highlight of the year courtesy the always salty EDDIE ROUSE. In a very special ‘Eddie’s Sagelike Advice,’ our wound-too-tight wise man eerily exposes felonious football foulplay a full month before the salacious Sandusky scandal.
All that, plus some essential sun tan jams from the likes of Human Sexual Response, The Godz, Nathaniel Mayer, Shinki Chen, Hollow Tip, ZNR, DMX Krew, Jim Sullivan and many, many more.

video: THE BIZARRE RIDE II THE PHARCYDE TOUR Delicious Vinyl releases three-CD box set of Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde for 20-year anniversary
Delicious Vinyl, the label that released Cali rap crew The Pharcyde’s groundbreaking 1992 debut album Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde (quoted as Kanye West’s favorite album), has released a three-CD box set featuring instrumentals and remixes to commemorate its 20-year anniversary. Original members Fatlip and Slimkid3 have also re-joined forces with Bizarre Ride producers J-Sw!ft and L.A. Jay for Bizarre Ride Live, a series of shows where they perform the entire album, blurring the lines between a straight up hip-hop show and a theatrical performance, Bizarre Ride Live includes all the original skits and interludes from the record, and even some special surprise guests (“did somebody page Quinton??”). No details are missed out as renowned graffiti artist SLICK, who designed the album’s cover, art-directs the stage and live audio-visuals are taken care of by L.A. Jay. Expect animated hip-hop, energetic raps, bright colors, b-boy throw-downs, magnetic visuals, a heavy dose of humour, and absolutely everything in between. After a sell-out premiere at The Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles on May 23rd, Bizarre Ride Live is gearing up to tour the U.S. and Europe through the rest of 2012, starting with an August 3 date at Low End Theory in San Francisco, CA and an in-store August 4 at Amoeba Records in Berkeley.
Well, whaddaya know! New music from D-Sisive. We haven’t heard new music from him since the early eighties. When Bruce Cockburn way the Mayor of Moosejaw. Pre-Tom Cochrane’s burning barbwire tattoo, wrapped around his left thigh. Around the time “Stomping” Tom Connors placed 5th in the Cape Breton 5k National.
The good ol’ days.
It’s been over two decades since we’ve heard his nasally high-pitched tone. The wait is over. He’s back! He meaning I. I’m him, writing this thing because my hired press release writer ran off with my $700 e mail money transfer. I think he was one of the guys in Too Bad To Be True [TBTBT]. Remember them? They had a video where they built a boat.
I wanted a real press release for this one. One where I exaggerate my achievements. Mention my awards/nominations. Use adjectives like ‘ground breaking’, ‘long awaited’ and ‘smash hit’. But that would be lying and those press releases are kinda shit. Plus, nobody really reads them anyways.
So here I am.
Back to my kleptomaniac ways. Stealing everything I can find. I wanted to rap over some of my favourite songs. So I did. Now I play the waiting game. Not for success, but for the next 10 million dollar lawsuit. I know Mac Miller’s lawyer, so I’ll be in good hands. Did I mention I’m a lawyer [name] dropper? Swag!
On this one I write about being depressed, hating the music scene, drugs, being better than everyone and French people over music by Beirut, Elliott Smith, Coldplay, Kendrick Lamar, Sonic Youth, A$ap Rocky, MGK, Cage, The Beatnuts, House Shoes, Danny Brown and Aloe Blacc.
I also have one original song, One [desolate], produced by Muneshine [who also joins me on a song], which is pretty heavy. I wanted to add a few bonuses as well. My MCA tribute, Adam, and another original, Victory Parade, which I released around my Juno Nomination announcement.
I’m really proud of this one.
So, if you have a blog and like this record, please post it. This is my only attempt at marketing. If you know someone with a blog, let them know. If you know any of the above artists’ lawyers, keep this far away from them. If you see a boat with TBTBT spray painted on the side, please make a citizens arrest.
Hope you like it.
With a knack and natural ability to use rapid fire syllables, Syn drafted a blueprint to showcase the renowned Los Angeles “chop” style with two of today’s most active west coast ambassadors. What better way to validate Syn’s heavyweight status, than by leading off a song with the godfather of the style – Myka 9 of the mighty Freestyle Fellowship. True to the form, Myka not only acknowledged Syn’s innate ability and cadence on the song but also raised the bar by matching every syllable in his verse for inspiration. This in turn set up Gel Roc for what some would imagine to be a daunting task that he not only jumped at the opportunity but executed to as near perfection, as possible.
Challenging the listener to decipher intricate lyrics on repeat, “TELL | GIVE | SHOW” is the epitome of classic L.A. underground hip hop.

I’ve never been big into the sport of Mixed Martial Arts or, MMA to the masses. However, it’s a bit different and easier to follow for me as a game instead because who doesn’t love a good video game to kick back and play? Bellator MMA Onslaught is a first for the franchise into the digital space, and, it’s not the best foray into the market, but it’s not the worst either. The game is a different take on the sport, nixing the more realistic approach of THQ’s UFC 3, in favour of a more arcade experience in the vein of a fighter game. (more…)
