In celebration of Nowruz (Iranian New Year), Toronto artist Crossword has released his long-awaited EP, Different Light. After touring with his band Vibonics over the past few years, Different Light marks his first solo project in a while; one of which is filled with hunger, passion and the heart of his music.
The 9-track project, which carries an up-front positive tone, features on onslaught of Toronto artists, including Fundamental, David Delisca and Symmetry, as well as Crossword’s Vibonics bandmates Alfred Chow and Tacha. Though production is primarily handled by Justunlimited, it also features production from Junia-T (“What U Wanna Do” Video), Fresh Kils and LEF7Y.
While the EP features vital rap tracks like “Stand Up” and “Fly’n High,” it equally highlights alternative tracks like “Different Light,” which features a eclectic guitar solo, and “Keep It Goin’,” which is assisted by wordsmith and poet David Delisca. Likewise, Crossword keeps a steady pace on the soulful “Something New” and “Time is Money,” tying in all 9 tracks into a cohesive project that bares his soul and sheds a Different Light onto who Crossword is.
