BE THE NEXT ARGOS CHEERLEADER. AUDITIONS BEGIN THIS WEEKEND
The Toronto Argonauts Football Club is getting ready to select its 2010 Argos Cheerleaders, presented by the Toronto Sun, with auditions starting this Saturday. As part of Toronto’s most exciting and established cheerleading team, you’ll capture the attention of more than 30,000 Argos fans at Rogers Centre and maybe even travel to the Argos home game in Moncton in September, as well as the Grey Cup Championship in Edmonton in November. This is your opportunity to meet some amazing people, support some meaningful charity events and act as a role model for many young girls by leading the Jr. Argos Cheerleaders.
This year’s team will be led by new Head Coach Jorie Brown. A gifted dancer and choreographer, Jorie was an Argos cheerleader from 2002-2005 before joining the Raptors Dance Pak for several seasons. Trained in all facets of dance, Jorie is currently a VJ on BPM TV, Canada’s first and only dance channel. She is the host of her own music request show called “Back @ Ya!” that can be seen daily. Jorie’s true passion, other than cheering on the Double Blue, is her love of teaching. She is a mentor to over 100 competitive and recreational students at AB Dance in Markham, Ontario. As a teacher and choreographer, the York University graduate has produced many award-winning competitive routines.
If you are female, 19 years and over, reliable, physically fit with dance, cheer or gymnastics experience and a positive attitude - we want you to try out! The Argos Cheerleaders have been an integral part of the Argo game day experience for over 30 years and now is your turn to come out and become one of the 33 members of the team. HOODAT “PROTECT YOUR HEAD”
Former middleweight champion boxer Michael Olajide, Jr. and former ballet dancer and business partner Leila Fazel are co-owners of the super popular AEROSPACE fitness studio in New York City! One look at Michael and Leila’s sleek, sculpted physiques are enough to convince even the most skeptical gym-goer that we should do exactly what they tell us to. Hugh Jackman, Mary J. Blig, Jane Krakowski and Eva Mendez agree, and are among the celebrities who have trusted Michael to re-sculpt their bodies.
Michael recently created The Hoodat, which is original headwear designed to protect you whether the opponent is a boxer or the weather. The hood is the one defining symbol of the boxer that an individual can take away with them. Just as the football jersey, or the baseball cap or the basketball shorts represent and memorialize each sport, the Hoodat represents the spirit of a fighter. The Hoodat is both a utility and design patent granted by the USPTO.
Umbro - England Reveal
English rockers Kasabian have made history by becoming the first ever band to launch an England football shirt. The band revealed the new away shirt, tailored by Umbro, late last night in front of thousands of unsuspecting French fans during their encore at the iconic Paris Olympia theatre.
Frontman Tom Meighan wore the striking red shirt, which the England team will wear in South Africa this summer, during the encore as the band belted out their anthemic song ‘Fire’. Tom commented: “It’s brilliant to be the first band ever to launch an England shirt and where better to launch this particular kit than away from home? When Umbro approached us to represent England away we jumped at the chance as we are all football fans and loved the idea of revealing the England away shirt when playing in the country of one of our great footballing rivals.”
Traditionally, the first image released of a new England shirt is on players from the current England squad. Explaining the change in approach, Trevor Cairns, Umbro Chief Marketing Officer, said: “For the launch of the latest England away shirt Umbro decided to turn to other Englishmen who, like the England team, represent the nation abroad. We came up with the idea of approaching an English band on tour. Like a football team, they are ‘away’ when performing in other countries. Kasabian are as passionate about their football as their music so it’s brilliant that they agreed to wear the shirt in Paris.”
With the red shirt, the song ‘Fire’ and 2,5000 fans going mad for Kasabian’s encore, it was a memorable moment that will live long in the memory of everyone in attendance. Iconic images of the gig will be turned into a global advertising campaign for the brand, including a giant poster in Kasabian’s hometown of Leicester.
The shirt will be worn by the England squad for the first time during their friendly with Egypt at Wembley on March 3rd. The shirt itself is tailored out of three distinct panels consisting of different technical fabrics, each one aimed at providing players with the best possible advantage:
1. The front panel of the shirt is designed for comfort and therefore contains a high cotton content. It also features a sloping neck to increase ventilation to the player’s body
2. The back and side fabric includes a mesh to help ventilation and to take moisture away from the player’s skin
3. The sleeves, inspired by the 1966 England kit, have a high elastane content which allows maximum player movement
Through individual fitting sessions with the England team, Umbro were able to create a bespoke, smart fit for each player which will be on display at the world’s most iconic football tournament in South Africa this summer. Umbro will be hoping it helps the team set the World Cup on fire.
The new away kit will go on sale on March 3rd and is available to pre-order now. Go to www.umbro.com for more info.

THE LEGENDARY DANNY WAY CELEBRATES 20 YEARS AS A PRO SKATEBOARDER
dcskateboarding.tv Serving up a D-Way Video
Every Day Throughout November
Throughout November DC celebrates 20 Years of pro skateboarding by one of the most iconic and legendary skaters of our time: Danny Way. Check out http://www.dcskateboarding.tv for exclusive content celebrating his career so far, including a new video every day for the next 20 weekdays throughout November.
Even people who don’t follow skateboarding have probably seen a photo of him. At the age of six, Way began skating street at Del Mar Skate Ranch with his older brother Damon (Co-Founder of DC). By the time he was 10 he had two sponsors, and by the age of 12 he had discovered vert, joined the H Street Skateboard team as an amateur, and launched immediately into production of “Shackle Me Not” and “Hocus Pocus,” two of the most influential skateboard movies of all time. After turning pro at the very young age of 14, he kicked off DC as the first team rider along with Colin McKay, with various contest wins and accomplishments in the late ‘90s giving him more fame and respect. After jumping out of a helicopter into a vert ramp twice, his vert, MegaRamp, and street performance in “The DC Video” and follow up in “The DC Video, Deluxe Edition” gave him unprecedented notoriety, including earning “Thrasher’s” Skater of the Year making him the only skater to earn the prestigious award twice.
As far as records and accomplishments, in 2004 he rolled into a gold medal in Big Air (on the MegaRamp, invented by Danny himself) at the X Games, then again Gold in 2005, 2006, a Silver in 2008, and a Gold in Big Air Best Trick in 2009. Global acclaim followed in 2005 when he became the first person to jump the Great Wall of China on a skateboard. The follow-up was a drop from the 82’ neon guitar outside the Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas, earning him another world record: highest bomb drop. The list of World Records, medals, and wins is seemingly endless.
Beginning today visit http://www.dcskateboarding.tv for the release of a video clip a day for the next 20 weekdays. A combination of legendary as well as never before seen footage will provide a level access and insight into his career that only DC can provide.
DC Staff Photographer Mike Blabac has also assembled a gallery of his favorite Way photos from over the years. Blabac has been the key photographer for much of Danny’s accomplishments, so the gallery at http://www.dcskateboarding.tv is a great recap of many of his career highlights, going back to photos from Way’s first vert pro contest win in 1989.
Way’s other sponsors—Plan B Skateboards, New Era, Pacific Drive, Independent Trucks, Nixon—are also supporting his 20th Year in a variety of interesting ways. Check out each of their sites for more on Way’s incredible career.
