Camu Tao, King of Hearts

Camu Tao, the legendary MC, producer, and singer, whose life was tragically cut short on May 25th, 2008 after a protracted battle with lung cancer, will have his debut solo album and final statement, King of Hearts, posthumously released on August 17, 2010 as a collaborative release between Fat Possum Records and Definitive Jux. Described by friends, peers and colleagues as “wild, proud, loving, tough, outspoken, spontaneous, and brilliant,” Tao was a creative powerhouse whose output was as staggering in its scope of influences as it was emotionally evocative. El-P describes King of Hearts as “raw, exciting and unlike anything anyone has heard”. Even newer school rappers feel the impact of Camu’s work, “These songs are so before their time it’s ridiculous” says Kid Cudi. Cage sums up the album as “a masterpiece in the making.”
The record marks a departure from his former works, most notably as it finds Camu favoring a distinctively playful, semi-soul croon as well as the off-kilter and wild rapping that earned him a reputation among peers and fans as an innovative genius. Musically King of Hearts delves into realms of gritty, electropunk pop, alternately veering between the dark carnival-esque and the sublimely summery. Pleasantly disorienting electronic tones cascade and pulse as dense, propulsive beats build a solid foundation upon which Tao constructs immensely hooky and infectious choruses. Written and produced by Camu himself, King Of Hearts is the last vision of a criminally underrated talent in the midst of a major artistic breakthrough cut short before being fully completed.
Llamabeats & Parable- Gun In My Hand
Llamabeats & Parable, collectively known as THINK TANK, introduce their new collaboration with “Gun In My Hand,” a twisted and witty love song with a soulful, boom-bap thump and reggae swing. Parable’s rhymes combine the spirit of a true MC, yet maintain a mass appeal while Spits counters with playful lyricism and melodic chorus. The “Gun In My Hand” music video will debut in early July, as THINK TANK gears up for their summer mini-tour, which includes performances on the South-east leg of the Vans Warped Tour. Their mixtape, Mashed Potatoes, is set for Fall release with several singles on SoFlo Entertainment.
Free Download – Busdriver drops Monsters of Folk remix from upcoming mixtape “Computer Cooties”
Busdriver has dropped another track from his upcoming mix tape Computer Cooties (such a butterfingers); a rework of that Monsters of Folk song that the Roots just redid.
It’s called —>”Deer God“<— and it features rising L.A. rap luminary Open Mike Eagle. Here is what Busdriver has to say about it:
“This time around for my Computer Cooties mixtape, I’ve taken the album opener “Dear God( Sincerely M.O.F.)” off of the Monsters of Folk debut, maimed it and cohearsed it into doing my bidding. The rendition is called “Deer God”. In it we take the original subject matter (dealing in the trepidations of god-fearing folk) and replace it with a series of questions concerning faith via wild accusations and finger pointing. Yay! Concious rap!
My good buddy Open Mike Eagle takes his chances with the premise, pouring his brand of verbal honey over the jagged edges of the production, and leaves more than a few kinks in the Faith-dome. It’s a fun-filled affair.
Of course, this is all inspired by the Roots rendition off of their latest studio album, “How I Got Over”. I just hope that the off-branded cynicism and tomfoolery of our version has added something to the conversation.
thanks a lot” – Busdriver
The Extremities – Mint Condition Tour
The Extremities preview fall release with Eastern Canada tour dates
The Extremities is an incredibly fitting name for the latest project, courtesy of Toronto’s producer Fresh Kils (sampler/keyboard) and Halifax’s Uncle Fester (turntable). Simply put, there’s just so much happening on The Mint Condition, the collaboration’s newest record set for release this September, that it’s impossible not to hop on board with their groovy, eclectic brand of lounge-inspired hip-hop.
Now, don’t assume so quickly that The Mint Condition is a difficult listen. No, it’s just that The Mint Condition is so laden with the kind of smokey, graceful hip-hop that you might find yourself wondering just how extremely (pun totally intended) seducing hip-hop can really be. Take for example the first leaked track ‘Lost Souls’ – a very versatile listen, perfectly ready for backyard Bar-B-Q’s, long drives into dusk or the kind of ultra-exclusive jazz club that rewards its devotees with the kind of fresh sounds all music fans pine for. Yes, The Extremities push their listeners to not only get involved in their sound, but drink up every last drop. Guests on the album include Ali Shaheed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest), El Da Sensei, Supastition, Rich Kidd, Lush Life, Ghettosocks and Timbuktu. Talk about extremes.
While The Extremities take their jazz-induced brand of soulful, culturally aware hip-hop on the road throughout Eastern Canada, hype on the act will certainly continue to grow. Besides two of the founding members of Halifax’s venerable hip-hop crew, Backburner, Kils and Fester will be joined on their upcoming tour by Anthony Rinaldi on the sax, two up and coming Emcee’s which make up Magnolius, and Ambition. If the combined presence and talent of all the collaborators within The Extremities is any indication, this is an act that will be taking their unique vision even further in the future and surely, cannot be missed.

CHALI 2NA ANNOUNCES FISH MARKET PART 2 ON DECON
Chali 2Na is back on board to deliver the second installment of his Fish Market series,Fish Market Part 2, out June 8th on Decon Records. The renowned rapper is joined this time by compatriot DJ Dez Andres (of Slum Village fame), and the classic pairing of MC and DJ is an exciting return to form. The two combine their efforts to create an album that plays like a mixtape and ultimately deliver one of the strongest hip-hop records of 2010.
From his formative years battling at the legendary Good Life Grocery in Los Angeles to selling out crowds of thousands around the world with Jurassic 5, the Chicago-born MC has criss-crossed the hip-hop landscape for nearly 20 years. Chali’s reputation precedes him, and he relishes the opportunity to step outside of the box with his new album. The Fish Market series are releases comprised of obscure gems and unreleased heaters culled from archives of guest-appearances, b-sides and passion projects and Fish Market Part 2is undoubtedly the baritone-born MCs most interesting work to date. For the second volume in the series, Chali stretches his baritone over a varied framework of instrumentals. On “Across The Map”, J-Live assists as tidal waves of cadence crash over punchy horns, eastern strings and timeless boom-bap. Never stagnant though, Chalidoesn’t hesitate to flip the script and systematically dismantle Rusko’s dubstep on “Gadget Go Go” with a tangled double-time flow. It’s moments like this that remind us that even when he stylistically casts a wide net, Chali 2na is a rapper’s rapper at the core.

It’s no secret that men have often felt discomfort when shaving, yet despite Gillette’s advanced technology and numerous shaving innovations like Mach3 and Fusion, that ‘tug and pull’ feeling (which can lead to skin irritation) has remained a constant burden– until now. After years of development Gillette has answered man’s demand for a more comfortable shave with the NEW Gillette Fusion ProGlide shaving system and NEW Gillette Fusion ProSeries skin care line-up.
Available just in time for Father’s Day, Gillette Fusion ProGlide and Gillette Fusion ProSeries are the result of years of R&D and more than 30,000 consumer trials. Gillette Fusion ProGlide improves on the 5-bladed Gillette Fusion shaving system and the introduction of a new skin care line-up enables a close, comfortable pre and post-shave experience. Gillette Fusion ProGlide offers seven upgrades – the most prominent: thinner, finer blades with increased stability that help the razor glide across a man’s face while shaving.

REMAINS FROM JESUS-ERA BUILDING DISCOVERED NEAR CHURCH OF THE ANNUNCIATION IN NAZARETH
The remains of a 2,000-year-old residential building from the time of Jesus were discovered this week during an archaeological excavation by the Israel Antiquities Authority near the Church of the Annunciation in Nazareth.
The ancient structure, consisting of two rooms and a courtyard, includes a rock-hewn cistern in its center which was used to collect rainwater. The structure was found underneath a 600-year-old wall dating to the Mamluke period. Fragments of Roman-era clay and chalk vessels were found inside the building and are believed to have been used by the ancient Hebrews approximately 2,000 years ago. “The discovery is of the utmost importance since it reveals for the very first time a house from the Jewish village of Nazareth and thereby sheds light on the way of life at the time of Jesus,” says Yardenna Alexander, Excavation Director, Israel Antiquities Authority. “No other settlement remains have been discovered that are attributed to this period.” For more information about travel to Israel, visit www.goisrael.ca. |

“Canadian teens don’t know that testing is confidential or that it is free,” explains Dopey. “They don’t even realize that HIV infection is a risk for them due to things like unsafe sex and drug use. There is a lot of misinformation I hope to be able to clear up.” Dopey will take part in a World Aids Day presentation for young audiences to discuss his testing experience on Dec 1, 2009 with presentations at 10:00am and 1:00pm at theAl Green Theatre, Miles Nadal JCC – 750 Spadina Ave, Toronto.
