Canadian Rapper-Producer “KEELO GRAMZ” Plots Triumphant Return with new deals
Canadian rapper and producer, Keelo Gramz, has signed a marketing deal with The Burnitdown Group LLC. The Burnitdown Group is the independent marketing arm for Shady Records. In conjunction with Black & Blue Signature Marketing, they plan to manage Keelo’s marketing and public relations strategy, overseeing the development and growth of his brand.
No stranger to media or entertainment, the rapper is plotting his triumphant return to the industry. In May 2010, he signed an EP deal with Ice Cold Recordings and is actively seeking a major recording deal. His new website, keelogramz.com, launched Thursday, July 20 during the soft debut of his new single “On Some Other Ish”; which is on radio rotation throughout Canada & the US. The official release party for “On Some Other Ish” will be on the same week of his birthday (Sept. 13 to Sept. 19)
Keelo’s tremendously, successful underground rap career spans across 4 years. The Scarborough native and former High School basketball star, began his music career in 2005 where he spent years recording and performing across Canada & the USA. He released his first indie album, Fortunes of the Fearless, which had 3 singles charting in Canada “Here Ya Go”, “Last Call” and “Somebody Snitched”. Not being adjusted to the “industry life”, Keelo took some time off to perfect his craft and spend time with friends & family.
His music speaks for itself and to the masses and Keelo Gramz has been impressing audiences with his music. As Keelo Gramz himself said, “I’m just a simple guy that’s trying to get my music to the world”, but he’s a lot more than that. He’s a talented musician and producer, an amazing performer and is definitely an artist to watch in 2010 and beyond.
Be sure to check Keelo’s performance at IMPORTFEST’s 10 Year Anniversary on Saturday September 11, 2010 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre

Lupe Fiasco ‘Go To Sleep’
When Lupe Fiasco came kick-push-coasting his way out of Chicago, he had the kind of unprecedented momentum hip-hop fans wouldn’t see again until…well, Drake. Lupe looked poised to pop like so much champagne. Fast forward four years and fans are getting antsy awaiting his daily delayed third album,Lazers, and it looks like they’ll have to wait a little longer on that—he just announced his latest single, “Go To Sleep,” is actually from an LP entitled Food & Liquor 2: The Great American Rap Album. Confused? Yeah, us too.
Dennis Ferrer says “Hey Hey” with hot new release on Strictly Rhythm
Enter any fine house music club over the last few months and chances are you’ve heard Dennis Ferrer’s “Hey Hey” – this summer’s most talked about track – playing on the sound system. An anthem in the truest sense, “Hey Hey” is captivating clubland and the airwaves with its flawless and much welcome return to the classic vocal house sound. The track has been heavily supported internationally by BBC Radio One tastemaker Pete Tong (among many other influential DJs) who called it “a return to the finest virtues of house music,” while the fans have spoken to the tune of over 3.5 million views (and counting) of the “Hey Hey” promo video.
Ready for a US takeover, Dennis Ferrer teams up with legendary New York City house music label Strictly Rhythm for the stunning new package – “Hey Hey: The Remixes.” This collection takes Ferrer’s gem under the remix knife with brand new interpretations from Deepah Ones, Kaytronik, Tom De Neef, Dim Chris, Crookers, Vandalism and a brand new lead mix from Friscia and Lamboy. To help celebrate this great new release, Strictly Rhythm presents the official music video for “Hey Hey” that acts as a perfect compliment to this instant classic.
A Grammy Nominee for his “Objektivity Mix” of Dido’s “Don’t Believe In Love,” Dennis Ferrer’s trademark is his skillful work with vocals and high production standards. He is considered a “producer’s producer” for crafting house music tracks with real instruments, analog production techniques and proper song structures. This is a rarity at a time when computer production methods are at an all time high. As a result, Dennis Ferrer has found a magic formula in “Hey Hey” that perfectly captures the classic vocal sound with a look to the future.
Ferrer has always been one to start a movement rather than follow one. Just as the dance music world was heading into the world of afro-centric house, Ferrer was there. And then, when it began to embrace the mix of tech and soul, Ferrer was there again, leading the way with his impeccable productions. And now as the world rediscovers a taste for classic vocal-based house, Dennis Ferrer’s at the forefront with “Hey Hey.” As Ferrer goes, it seems, so does electronic music – Strictly speaking.
20 Minute DJ Mix
A Rapper’s Delight by Kangol Kid from UTFO
Has it really been twenty-five years since I placed a cardboard box onto a hot summer corner block and began breakdancing? Has it really been twenty-five years since I took my God-given Afro and had it processed by man-made chemicals and called it Jheri-Curls. Is it really twenty-five years since I popped the lenses out of my Cazel glasses and put fat laces in my Adidas? I can’t believe that twenty-five years ago I had the biggest rap song in the country, Kangol hat sales hit the roof, and every girl had a nameplate belt buckle that simply said, “Roxanne”.
I didn’t notice how fast time flew until my best friend/manager/partner Shaunda Lumpkin of Your Knight Management had me experience the most exciting birthday party of my life where everyone that I influenced and/or influenced me gathered on August 7, 2009 at New York’s Classic Shadow Nightclub. The astonishing list of classic influential people included: Sugarhill Gang, Chubb Rock, Blue Magic, Big Daddy Kane, Grand Master Flash, Kool DJ Red Alert, Kool Herc, Whistle, Grand Master Melle-Mel, Fonda Rae, Full Force, Heather Hunter, Crash Crew, Fearless Four, Dana Dane, Queen Pen, Lin Que, Freedom Williams (C&C Music Factory)… and more.
It’s important that you understand; when I stepped onto the scene I could count how many rap groups existed on both of my hands. In other words, I never had an opportunity to be star-struck by a rap star because I quickly became a rap star myself, but on this birthday party night I became the BIGGEST Hip-Hop Fan you could imagine as I shared the stage with my idols, The Sugarhill Gang and sung “Rapper’s Delight” with them. Group member Master Gee told my manager, “I’m not a party-goer, but for Kang, me and the guys will absolutely attend and perform”…and that’s exactly what they did.
Another “over-the-top” highlight for me was the attendance of Classic R&B Group Blue Magic. These guys were my B2K back in the day and their songs were pure uncut R&B. When they sang “What’s Come Over Me” at my party, a feeling of adolescence came over me and instantly I was 12 years old again. Does anyone understand what it means to have a group of this magnitude at your birthday party…and later have that same group perform in your honor? You can’t get anymore classic than that!
It makes you wonder… when did we all become our parents? When did we stop paying to roller-skate and started paying bills? It all happened so fast and if we don’t enjoy our classic artists while they’re still here with us… they’ll all be gone just as fast. I am happy to say we make “classic” look good!! Most importantly, I need you all to remember: We are NOT Relics… WE ARE RELEVANT!
J. Dilla Safety Dance
Not much more can be said about James Yanceyother than he was undoubtedly one of the greatest musical innovators of our time and he died before we were ready to let him go. Four years after his passing, Dilla’s legacy is larger than ever thanks to torch bearers like Stones Throw, who recently let go six unreleased beats and instrumentals for the small price of signing up for their newsletter.

Pharcyde’s J-Swift Releases “I’ll Do Mine”
Los Angeles-based One Cell Records is pleased to announce the release of the new single, “I’ll Do Mine” (Fathouse Wreckords/One Cell) the first track by producer J-Sw!ft in nearly five years. From the upcoming feature-length documentary 1More Hit, the track features St. Imey from the Wascals and produced by J-Sw!ft.
Perhaps most known for his work with the legendary group the Pharcyde, J-Sw!ft fell into a life of drug addiction, homelessness, and jail (all documented in the emotional and insightful film) until he was finally able to get sober and return to what he was born to do: make music. And though he still struggles to stay clean, J says he’s “here to unite all the drug users,” with the chemical celebration, “I’ll Do Mine.”
J-Sw!ft manages to maintain a sense of humor about his life and film. “You can’t even imagine trying to save data when you’re homeless!” he quips. “But I’m proud of the film though. I hope it can be a lesson to others.”
Finally, the b-boy makes his long-anticipated return with a daringly dope alter ego: Negro Kanevo! coming in 2011.
1 More Hit will be available February 2010.
Dirty South’s smash “Phazing” – new music video
Hot off a month long tour of the United States, Dirty South is currently taking the European festival season by storm. The hottest months are booked full-on with dates all over the continent highlighted by stops at Serbia’s Exit Festival, Poland’s Sunrise Festival, Holland’s Freshtival and Mysterylands, Belgium’s Tomorrowland Festival, Croatia’s Papaya Festival, England’s Creamfields and multiple stops at Pacha in Ibiza before another go around in the USA.
This period of non-stop touring comes on the heels of Dirty South’s summer smash, “Phazing (feat. Rudy).” While the original mix and Tiësto’s remix were doing a fine job of tearing up the global dancefloor, Norman Doray recently joined the party with a new remix that adds a monumental orgy of explosive synths and screaming stabs. Breaking down into the familiar guitar lick and the breakdown is a cacophony of strings, white noise and that uplifting vocal that leaves you tingling for minutes afterwards. Simply epic.
“Phazing” is now available for purchase through iTunes featuring the original mix and both the Tiësto and Norman Doray remixes. This is the definitive summer anthem crowned by Pete Tong and supported by world leading DJ’s while smashing the Beatport charts.
