Peace my people,
D. Allie here. As the world has yet to end lets celebrate with some music from my compadre in progress, Eddie Logix. This mixtape is a compilation of songs Eddie has been a part of over the last year on the production and MC side. Per usual, the man has been busy. It features the likes of MidCoast Most, USM, Danny Brown, Guilty Simpson, Mr. Chief, SelfSays, Doc Waffles, Passalacqua, Cold Men Young, Paradime, DIAL.81, and of course Progress Report. Shouts to Dante LaSalle for mixing the project like they used to do it in the golden era.
For his new album, Diamond In The Ruff, Freeway hit the studio with longtime collaborator, Just Blaze, for the highly anticipated track “Early.” His forthcoming album features guest appearances from Wale, Marsha Ambrosius, Vivian Green and more as well as production by Just Blaze, Jake One, Bink!, Needlz and more. Diamond In The Ruff hits stores worldwide November 27th on Babygrande Records.
“Early” was premiered during a visit to Shade 45′s “Sway in the Morning,” and marks the first time the two have worked together since Just helmed the bulk of Free’s 2003 debut Philadelphia Freeway. The heavy hitting track is a classic Freeway jam and he flows with the Just Blaze beat with ease that shows the two are due for more pairings to come in the future.
Also, Freeway has released a video where he discusses why he loves being an independent artist. He mentions that since his days with Roc-A-Fella, he has always maintained creative control, so it only makes sense to take it another step and release his forthcoming album, Diamond In The Ruff independently through Babygrande Records.

Jamie Lidell’s upcoming self-titled recording is the fifth full-length release from the critically acclaimed artist, whose previous records have been praised by the New York Times as “exceedingly precise and lovely,” including 2008′s Jim, whichwas named Best Pop/Rock Album by the Independent Music Awards.
Known for bringing together disparate musical influences, Jamie Lidell sites Mtume, Cameo, New Jack Swing, Bobby Brown and George Clinton as inspirations for the new release. “I referenced a lot of the analogue synth tones of the records I really love,” he says, “the question isn’t electronic music or not, it’s what are you trying to say with the electronics you choose.” Lidell recently moved from New York to Nashville and set up an expansive recording studio in his new home. “The whole house has become a recording studio,” Lidell says, “the entire album was recorded and mixed at home. I’m proud of that.”
After 10 years, 3 albums, 4 EPs, 7 videos, a 2005 MuchFact top video nod, a 2008 MMVA video award nomination (Best Rap Video), critical acclaim in The Source, NOW Magazine, Okay Player (amongst others) and proven #1 singles on the college radio circuit, Tru-Paz have established themselves as credible veterans in Canadian Hip Hop.
Akim, Boozie, and Dj Unknown have proven that chemistry matters when making music, as the trio have carved out a unique, lush, melodic sound infused with reggae, soul, new wave and funk influences.
Yet, after all these years, the group is still growing, and has added the soulful and sultry vocals of Jakie Lu to the group. The addition of a female vocal presence in unison with Boozie’s vocals, provide incredible harmonies and complementary melodies that take the already powerful Tru-Paz sound to a new, higher level.
It is with this new, unrestrained passion that the foursome has approached the creation of their fourth studio album, “Tru To The Game Without A Pause”. The group has never compromised their message, their principles, or their artistic integrity with their past releases despite pressure to conform to the mainstream hip hop movement, and they have no intention of changing that pattern of behaviour.
If there is one thing that the group does want to push to the forefront of their musical creations, it is honesty. The music, the lyrics, and the overall sound all embody a deep, personal honesty from all members of the group. The vocals touch personal subjects such as being a parent, struggling to succeed, losing loved ones, and over-coming adversity. Yet the music also possesses an uninhibited joy as well, exploring themes such as hope, love, friendship, loyalty and freedom.
Ultimately, Tru-Paz strive to bring something to the table that many people feel much of today’s modern hip hop lacks – maturity. Tru-Paz are four adults, with children, jobs, homes, responsibilities and careers that keep them grounded in a reality that the majority of adults in today’s society share.
With Tru-Paz, there is no fantasy-land, no empty imagery, and no false pretenses – only truth. True music; true lyrics; true happiness; true life; true to the game without a pause – Tru-Paz.
While KRS-One’s PSA-like single, “Disaster Kit”, continues to take the internet by storm, the Teacha has decided to drop the equally edutaining video. Part lesson, part documentary, the video shows footage of some of the most destructive natural disasters in recent times while KRS-One stands in front of a green board, chalk in hand, literally teaching a visually stimulating class on disaster preparedness.
Canadian-based rap recording artists, Point Blank are set to release the video premiere of their latest single X-History to coincide with the release of the album of the same name on November 6th, 2012.
It is the first release since the critically-acclaimed, self-titled, debut album Point Blank, which debuted at #1 on the Canadian Soundscan Independent Album Charts. The long-awaited album will be distributed through Entertainment One (eOne) to be released on November 6, 2012, leading up to the Day of Remembrance – a relevant theme within the lyrics and visual elements of the X-History video. The track is written and performed solo by Stump Gets; one-sixth of the Point Blank group, who said:
“I was inspired by an interview featuring Sophia Stewart, creator of The Matrix. Her insights into the future led me to analyze the past, present and future of humanity and also explore the exploitation that has been experienced by people as a collective. The song challenges oppressive narratives and silent stories while promoting the Point Blank culture of loyalty to roots and community. It also highlights our loyalty to the hip-hop culture. As a group of independent artists we have witnessed our share of exploitation in the music industry and the oppressive nature of the industry. It can change you if you’re not strong. X-History is an anthem of strength.”
The video is filmed and directed by Cam Sullivan for The Field Inc. As a recurring theme consistent in all Point Blank videos, X-History video pays homage to the pre-revitalization Regent Park neighbourhood, the stomping grounds of the Point Blank group. Known for using their art as a form resistance, the single and video represents the not only untold stories of past Regent Park community members, but also recognizes the stories of other communities and nations that the group identifies with.
“If the issues of these groups are not within the mainstream media, not being discussed in households, silenced in the present day curriculum and removed from everyday conversations, they are voiceless. As a group we have always been committed to using our platform to be a voice for these faceless, nameless groups as a part of the Point Blank movement, which is a movement that challenges oppressive systems, institutions and practices,” says group member Imperial.
With the hook “You ain’t X-ing me/ outta history with your new technology/ out tryna follow me/f*ck the rest is our secret society…” X-History honours Black History images of Marcus Garvey, Jesse Owens, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, The Black Panther Party, The Red Tail Air Pilots, Haile Selassie, Tommie Smith and John Carlos, among others.
The X-History video release is the first part of a trilogy that the group plans to release to coincide with the X-History album. Fans can look forward to follow up video releases for the tracks titled Loyalty, and Glory.
Kae’s latest work explores themes of spiritual growth, fearless exploration, and vulnerability. As the artist explains, “the way I came to music was as a part of a bigger search. Exploration and fearless expression was a part of a spiritual journey for me and continues to be. It was never initially about a career or a certain style or anything like that. It was about easing anxiety and being closer to God. In that sense I’m always creating to satisfy that part of me. The songs on this record are deeply personal for that very reason.”
This new effort by the singer-songwriter builds on the success of his previous releases. For his 2011 EP Outside the Barcode, Kae Sun was inspired by the return to his native homeland Ghana. After nine years of living in Canada, he found a renewed drive for creating the raw and non-commoditized artistic experiences that shaped his passion for music. 2009’s Lion on a Leash, the well-received LP that landed on the iTunes 2009 Rewind List and earned esteemed reviews from Exclaim, The Montreal Gazette, OkayPlayer.com, as well as gaining recognition on many critic’s lists for top indie release of the year.
The success of Kae’s work has led him to play venues and festivals across Canada, UK, Dubai and Ghana. Kae Sun is also in the works of putting out his next full-length album AFRIYIE produced by Kae Sun and Science!, set for release in early 2013.
Freeway, hip-hop’s original bearded luminary, is excited to unveil the first single from his upcoming album, Diamond In The Ruff, which is now set to be released on November 27th via Babygrande Records. Titled “Jungle,” Philly Free’s futuristic yet animalistic banger premiered on Pitchfork.
A follow-up to his feature on Stalley’s track of the same name last October, Freeway breakdowns the risks, rewards, and rules of life in the concrete jungle, with a specific focus on pushing product. In true Freeway fashion, “Jungle” utilizes a rich and punchy percussion-heavy style of production, topped with a synthesized string, brass, and church choir sustain and complete with squealing synth arpeggiated accents, that doesn’t overshadow his gritty flow, but rather provides a solid foundation for him to spit on. The hook says everything he wants you to know: “Let me show you how we do it in the jungle/ Make work tumble, move it by the bundle.”

Jack Davey has been diligently exploring the solo spectrum since the release of Side A, the first half of her L0-F! EP, which she unveiled last Tuesday. A distinct departure from the electro-soul sounds she was creating as front woman of J*DaVeY, L0-F! Side A is Davey’s chance to dive deep into her own thoughts as she experiments with the raw sounds playing in her head. Fresh on the heels of that release, Jack Davey is releasing the latest video off of L0-F! for the song, “Eye Can See.”
The song taps into raw and introspective emotions, and the video reflects this sentiment. “This is a candid portrayal of who I am — no frills, no make-up, no concept,” says Jack “I was sitting around, practicing guitar with my boyfriend, and I got inspired to capture that process.” In collaboration with her beau Joey Strat, who produced L0F!s upcoming second half, Side B, the video is entirely self shot and invites viewers to see Davey’s creative atmosphere in stunning black and white simplicity.
