Mixtape: Billy Mitchell Presents: Sleigh Bells Remixed By Metermaids

With their new single, “We Ztay Shynin’” (Treats Remix), Brooklyn natives Metermaids lace their brash lyrics over the ear splitting beats of Sleigh Bells’Treats.” The song is just one of five Sleigh Bells tracks on the new remix EP that can be downloaded from the band’s website now. The track blends the in-your-face and unapologetic style that both acts exude. MC’s Swell and Sentence strongly admire Sleigh Bells, stating, “We really dig Sleigh Bells and thought they’re music would be amazing to remix, which it is.” Although the group did say that they wanted to keep the project light-hearted the lyrical content does contain a few cleverly placed jabs. “It was also a subtle dig at a few institutions of the music world that we wanted to bully, but not in a real obvious way,” explains Sentence. The duo re-affirms their position as hip-hop’s “Bad News Bears” by delivering their lyrics with an outwardly nasty attitude, encouraging those who can’t handle the grind of the city to move out to Hackensack. The blaring guitar continuously looped throughout the song is a striking compliment to the rappers’ style, and although Alexi Krauss‘ vocal styling is an angelic contrast to the song’s vibe it comes off as anything but polite. The gritty collaboration on the new remix EP should serve as a perfect selection for the ears while rolling through the city streets.

Also, be on the lookout for Metermaids’ upcoming album with 9th WonderRooftop Shake, hitting stores soon.

donwill-lovejunkie-singleRemixed Single Featured On Mick Boogie’s Nike Changemakers Campaign Mixtape

Following the recent release of his highly lauded solo debut, Don Cusack In High FidelityDonwill’s “Love Junkie,”one of the album’s recent singles, also now holds the distinction of being the first leak off Mick Boogie’s for his campaign. The track features Ca$he, formerly Harlem’s CashThe Park, and reworking the track with a totally new feel complete with a retro beat, a pulsing drum line, and an infectious guitar vamp courtesy of Wallpaper.’s production work and the live sounds of The Park. Recorded at in San Francisco, The Park drives the song with their musical licks while Donwill trades verses with Ca$he. Wallpaper., serving double duty as producer and singer for the track, graces the song with a catchy hook: “I’m addicted to your touch / When you’re near me I lose control / And we ain’t never met / Baby I need you tonight / I’m addicted to the feeling / But somehow end up empty inside / And I can’t find the love…” While “Love Junkie” has experienced a massive makeover with its refurbished and upbeat vibe, the remix maintains much of the gumption of the original. Donwill’s lyrical dexterity shines through as he raps, “A well done fling is a beautiful thing,” and “If love is a drug, then I need a new prescription.” The smooth transitions and fluid lines lead to The Park flexing an instrumental breakdown to close the song.

“Love Junkie” (Wallpaper. Remix) will be available as a Limited Edition 45 single with TRUTHLiVE’s “Ready Set Go (Featuring Moe Green)” this April.

Donwill’s Don Cusack In High Fidelity is available now at all digital and physical retailers via Interdependent Media.

This one’s for Brooklyn – Mamarazzi makes it “Gangster” on their new music video single

28We wanted to let you know about our new single and music video “Gangster,” in which lovers lie, grapefruits fly, and one universal mantra prevails: Men are good to have around because they change the light bulb.

And, if you’re feeling extra gangster, check out the REMIX from Kool Ad (of Das Racist)

Love, dance, sweat repeat,

mamarazzi

Synopsis:

Mr. Franks lives a model life, dousing his own body in Gold Bond Medicated Powder each morning, a symbol of dry devotion to his supermodel live-in girlfriend, Miss Robynz. But out in a Brooklyn landscape of undercover freaks and furries, we find Mr. Franks living a secret life. His addiction to a forbidden fruit leaves him trapped in the bittersweet realm between pain and pleasure.

Meanwhile, Miss Robynz has a secret of her own. A chance encounter in the park with Miss Tavi-isms, a Cockatoo-feather-wielding smooth-talker, leaves Miss Robynz searching for a way to ditch Mr. Franks, whose sexual prowess Tavi-isms deconstructs over a series of secret phone calls.

Can Mr. Franks reach pure citrus bliss before the desiccating effects of domesticity take permanent hold? Will Tavi-isms succeed in breaking the lock off Miss Robynz coveted sugar bowl? With the introduction of a mysterious narrator, dubbed The Butler, the plot thickens when an essential household chore threatens to thwart the sexual revolution.

It has been said that behind every powerful man there is a good woman whos getting it good from another woman on the sly. In a time of Prop 8 and Client 9, mamarazzis pro-love tale of woe celebrates the licentious governor in all of us.

GROWING preview PUMPS with new self-directed videos

93Growing, the experimental Brooklyn-based trio comprised of Joe DeNardo, Kevin Doria, and recently added member Sadie Laska (IUD), have debuted the first installment in a series of six video vignettes previewing select tracks from their forthcoming full-length PUMPS. Premiering yesterday at The Fader, the videos for “Hormone” and “Drone Burger” visualize the songs intensively processed over seven months during 2008 at Brooklyn’s Ocropolis Studio. Both Joe DeNardo and Kevin Doria created 3 videos each, filled with footage recalling a halcyon period of sci-fi cinema in each track. For this bi-weekly pair of videos, DeNardo’s “Drone Burger” touches on concepts of humanity encountering life in space (“Do they listen to Growing when they’re cruising around other planets?”), while Kevin Doria’s effort sends the endless sonic layers of “Hormone” over what he appropriately describes as “a model rocket incident, Hong Kong from the sky, and a lap around Paris on acid.”

Stay tuned for further installments of video vignettes from PUMPS to be issued leading up to the release of the album on April 6th. Culminating with the debut of their full-length video for “Mind Eraser”, all six vignettes will be included and available exclusively with the pre-order release at VICERecords.com.

Jamie Hector is Moving Mountains

meetthefounder-jhAs you may know, Moving Mountains Inc. is a Brooklyn based 501c3 Non Profit Organization founded by Jamie Hector, a well respected actor best known for his roles on HBO’s The Wire and NBC’s HEROES. Jamie was born and raised in Brooklyn and wanted to create opportunities that specifically target urban youths interested in the performing arts and to provide creative development and a platform for them to showcase their talents. His original goal was to create a theater company where youths could strengthen and showcase their talents while instilling in them, life skills that build character. However, because of the growing number of participants from the surrounding boroughs, Moving Mountain has blossomed into a more diversified organization with a theater company, a film division, music division, and a dance and personal development component that focuses on individual needs, be it academic, health, etc.
The Moving Mountains organization opened it’s doors to youth between the ages of 10 to 20 a little over a year ago using the rehearsal space provided by Council Member Darlene Mealey in Crown Heights Brooklyn. The organization has since gained the support of The Brooklyn Delegation, The Mark Wahlberg Foundation, HBO, film/television professionals, Medgar Evers College and The ABFF.
In celebration of a great year and to support the growing needs of the organization, Moving Mountains looks forward to its first annual fundraising weekend on Feb 12th & 13th. I am writing to ask for your support in this worth while two day event. Pending your interest, I would like to send additional information on the weekend and about how Moving Mountains has been affecting kids and parents alike in a positive way. You will also get confirmed celebrity attachments and an events listing. Your ability to spread the word about the organization would be very helpful. We are in need of sponsorship as well as donations. All donations are tax deductible in accordance with the IRS. 100% of all donations will go to the direct services for youth.
For additional information on Moving Mountains Inc. please visit our website www.movingmountainsnyc.org. We appreciate your consideration of this request and hope to discuss any questions you may have for us.

With a little faith,
we can Move Mountains!

Media Darlings Of 2009, Tanya Morgan Announce New Developments For The Coming Year

Following overwhelming acclaim throughout the past year for their sophomore effort, Brooklynati, hip-hop trio Tanya Morgan are on a high – both grateful of past acclaim and excited and prepared for future endeavors, including forthcoming solo albums, group projects, and touring.

Tanya Morgan’s Brooklynati album has proven to have legs. Upon its release in May, the album quickly began feeding the appetites of music fans and journalists alike, debuting in the top 10 on iTune’s hip-hop charts as well as receiving rave reviews from the likes of SPIN MagazineThe OnionTime Out New York, and more. Proving more than just another flash-in-the-pan album, Brooklynati once again found itself on the tip of tongues of journalists and bloggers, over eight months later, this time in the form of Year-End Best Of lists. Receiving end-of-year nods from the likes of AllMusic.com,The Village VoiceeMusic.comAmazon.comOnion AV ClubTime Out New YorkThePopMatters.comLAMusicBlog.comTheSmokingSectionCokeMachineGlow.com,TheUrbanDaily.com, and more, Brooklynati continues to turn heads in 2010.

Rather than become complacent on past achievements, Tanya Morgan is keeping their six feet planted firmly in the future as 2010 dawns. In addition to jumping into the initial stages of their third group album, currently scheduled for a first quarter 2011 release, on March 23rd, Donwill will release his solo debut, Don Cusak In High Fidelity, which is thematically based on the cult-favorite film and novel High Fidelity, while both Von Pea and Ilyas will be planning their own solo efforts. Von Pea’s Pea’s Gotta Have It is currently slated for a late summer release while Ilyas’ Hello, Hell will follow in the fall.

Despite being three separate projects, Tanya Morgan views the solo albums as a trinity of sorts, being released as three different suites representing the whole of the group’s individual identities. Speaking on his third of the triumvirate release, Von says, “Pea’s Gotta Have It is the album I daydreamed about making one day back when I was in high school so it’s told from the perspective of a high school student. It starts on the first day of senior year and it ends right before graduation.”

Although the focus this year will be on solo efforts, the trio will team up plenty of times in 2010. In addition to each member popping up on each other’s solo efforts, fans can also look forward to catching the trio on the road, as Tanya Morgan will be performing a number of shows throughout the year, in addition to making another appearance at the annual SXSW music festival in March.

Nickodemus to release “Sun People Remixed” on Thievery Corporation’s ESL Music

rephlektorlist_esl161coversmallloresAlthough summer’s long gone Brooklyn’s foremost outernational DJ Nickodemus is ready to heat up your soundsystem with Sun People Remixed. As the title suggests, this release brings together some of the world’s finest and most eclectic remixers for brand new interpretations of original tracks culled from Nickodemus’ critically acclaimed sophomore artist albumSun People.

Earthrise Soundsystem’s take on the title track is a tribal moment; packed with West African chants, while The Spy From Cairo brings a deep island reggae sound to “Just Move Feat Kwasi” Next, The Pimps of Joytime take Brooklyn & Bucharest on down to the Big Easy with that New Orleans funk groove and both Red Astaire and Tal M Klein lay down a thick layer of funky bass on their interpretations of “Sun Children” and “N’Dini,” respectively.

J Boogie brings a wonderfully warm electronic vibe to the soothing Middle Eastern vocal on ““Didibina” while Swedish producer HIRD (Fever Ray, Little Dragon) brings out a treasure trove of percussion on “La Lluvia.” The warehouse doors fly open with techno on Christian Prommer’s driving and beautiful remix of “The Love Feeling;” a proper warm up for Kush Arora’s bone rattling 2 step crusher on “2 Sips & Magic.” A comedown is necessary after that scorcher and Adham Shaikh offers the perfect R&R through his downtempo take on “WEriseWEfallWerise” Day turns to evening and the sun sets on this CD with Pablo Sanchez’s smooth Hip-Hop flavored take on “Sun Children” and a gorgeous house remix of “The Love Feeling” from SABO feat new vocals from Dario Boente.

Conceptually, Sun People was built with songs made for people who love the sun, sunshine and brighter days to come. Appropriate, of course, as Nickodemus has made his mark soundtracking NYC summers with his massively popular Turntables On The Hudson live events (More than just 4/4 beats and a night out, Nickodemus is known for adding something a bit more musical and spiritual to the mix at his parties). The original versions were inspired by various people Nickodemus met and places he’s been, along with his collective feelings of optimism. It’s these positive sonic vibes from all over the globe that Nickodemus matches with collaborators hailing from destinations including Guinea, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Romania, India, Turkey, United Kingdom and New York City. These are the Sun People.

“Sun People Remixed” is released Digitally on December 16, 2009 and on CD January 19. 2010 through ESL Music
