Toronto’s own Fefe Dobson began her musical career back in 2003 with a self-titled debut album that went on to earn her two Juno Award nominations.
That was followed up by 2010’s Joy and now, the Canadian songstress is gearing up to release her first record in three years titled “Legacy”
At dusk on October 26, 2013, sensational Canadian band Hedley will perform the first Quietest Concert Ever, a live outdoor show delivered to the audience through Sennheiser wireless headphones, in Banff National Park’s Cascade Gardens.
The concert is a trial run for a new Parks Canada signature experience aimed at the 18-24 demographic, one that can easily travel to other national parks. The project aims at increasing park visitation using the highest standards of entertainment content and technology, supported by strategic partnerships and cross-promotion.
CBC Radio will record the event and broadcast the concert coast-to-coast two or three weeks after the event to coincide with the launch of Banff’s winter season.
Sennheiser Canada will deliver the audio through wireless headphones to each individual member of a live audience of 1,000 Hedley fans.
The company has considerable experience with wireless headphone technology used for live performances. Sennheiser provided audiences of 400 with headphones, at Kid Koala concerts, discovering that wearing headphones creates a completely immersive concert-going experience that is very different from the standard audio setup. It ensures the highest possible sound quality in a way that is both intimate and personal, yet at the same time shared with an enthusiastic crowd.
For Quietest.Concert.Ever, a low-frequency bass rumble may be introduced to the outdoor space as a means of enhancing the immersive quality of the concert sounds and energizing the environment, enabling Hedley fans to also “feel” the music.
Each audience member will wear a Sennheiser model RS 116, an open, supra-aural wireless RF headphone system. Its transparent, well-balanced sound with great bass response, along with its extended battery life, makes it an ideal choice for all types of music and TV applications – including live outdoor shows
Hedley is a Canadian band from Abbotsford, British Columbia, formed in 2003. They were named after the unincorporated community of Hedley BC, a name chosen after members heard that it was for sale for $346,000.
The band is known for its singles Never Too Late, Cha-Ching (performed at the closing ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver), Invincible and Kiss You Inside Out, and for the band members’ philanthropic work as ambassadors for the charity Free The Children.

Over 130,000 passionate music lovers have expressed their frustration and anger for the new $425.00 fees that @KenneyJason is imposing on international touring artists — fees that will ultimately cripple live music in Canada.
Today we launch the next phase of action in our campaign to reverse the $425.00 fees:
Use the tag: #Music4Canada and tweet to @KenneyJason
Don’t let the government destroy our live music scene!
Jason Kenney is a big Twitter user, so we know this week of twitter actions will get his attention!
In addition to big festivals like Pop Montreal and NXNE, over 60 well-known artists are supporting our petition from Sebastian Bach, to Austra, to Rise Against, to DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammed from A Tribe Called Quest. While you’re on Twitter, tweet to your favourite Canadian or international artist with the hashtag #Music4Canada, and ask them to support the petition with an endorsing tweet of their own.
Small bars and restaurants could go out of business because of these fees. Up-and-coming artists deserve the opportunity to perform in Canada and build their fan followings. Music fans should not be deprived of amazing live music that they might never get to hear because of these fees.
For these reasons it is so important that we keep this issue in conversations, and we keep our demands — that small bars and restaurants be exempt from these fees — front and centre for Minister Jason Kenney.
PS – For more ways to help and join the conversation check out www.music4canada.com and like the page. We’ll be posting updates and more actions as the campaign unfolds.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship® applauded the House of Commons for passing Bill S-209, an Act that removes the Criminal Code prohibition on professional mixed martial arts (MMA) in Canada. The bill, which passed the third and final reading yesterday, will be enacted after receiving Royal Assent.
“This is a major development for the sport of mixed martial arts as we now have a consistent legislative framework for Canada and its provinces,” said UFC® Director of Canadian Operations Tom Wright. “The UFC thanks Senator Bob Runciman for spearheading this initiative and MP Massimo Pacetti for piloting this through the House of Commons. We’re also appreciative of MP Ryan Leef’s support throughout this entire process.”
Bill S-209 is an amendment to Section 83(2) of the Criminal Code of Canada, regulating prize fighting. The amendment clarifies the propriety of promoting mixed martial events throughout Canada. The current section 83 of the Criminal Code had not been updated since 1934.
To date, provincial governments have worked around the law to allow UFC events to take place. Since 2008, the UFC® has hosted a total of 12 Canadian events between four cities: Montreal (six), Toronto (three), Vancouver (two) and Calgary (one). Winnipeg will soon become the UFC’s fifth Canadian city as the MTS Centre hosts the sold out UFC® 161: EVANS VS. HENDERSON on June 15 while Toronto receives its fourth event with UFC® 165 at Air Canada Centre on September 21.
Currently, MMA is sanctioned at a provincial level in British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec, while it has been sanctioned on a municipal level within Alberta, New Brunswick and the Northwest Territories. The UFC’s goal is to have the sport sanctioned and regulated in all 10 provinces and three territories.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship is returning to the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Saturday, September 21, 2013 for UFC 165.
The event was announced on Tuesday night’s edition of UFC Tonight.
UFC President Dana White told the media that the promotion had planned events across Canada throughout 2013, so it is no surprise that September would host the Toronto show.
UFC director of Canadian operations Tom Wright added that Toronto and Montreal are the UFC’s “hot spot” locations in Canada and that they would be on the schedule annually, and would likely return roughly the same time each year.
No bouts have been announced as of yet, so stay tuned for more information on UFC 162 in the coming weeks.

The Sennheiser Orpheus originally debuted back in 1991. It was designed and sold as a complete system: a table-top stereo tube amplifier, the power supply, an internal DAC, all the cabling, and of course the headphones themselves. The engineers in Germany used exotic materials to give the Orpheus sort of a timeless, Art-Deco-meets-steampunk vibe. It’s an electrostatic system — instead of traditional speaker cones inside the earcups, you’ll find thin pieces of film that vibrate when stimulated by electrical currents. The sound is amazing: lively, super-nuanced, and intimate.
Only 300 units were produced, and each one sold for $13,000 — a very large sum of money for a headphone rig, even by today’s standards.

“I truly got to live my passion and follow my dreams by competing in mixed martial arts, especially under the Zuffa banner, but UFC 154, that’s the last fight I’ll be in the octagon, as I’m retiring and looking to move on to the next phase of my career,” Hominick said.

“As a family, I have young daughter,” Hominick said. “I have another daughter on the way, and I think that’s the next phase of my life. I need to put focus into that.”
