Sennheiser’s HearIAm

Audio technology manufacturer Sennheiser launched HearIAm back in June, and ever since, it’s been providing both musicians and fans with some great opportunities. Most recently, an up and coming band (Kansas City’s Trucker) was awarded the opportunity to play at Montreal’s Osheaga 2010 festival, and this October, Sennheiser will award another performer a coveted performance slot during the prestigious CMJ Music and Film Festival in New York. Sennheiser is rewarding music fans for participating as well.

Through the HearIAm portal, fans and musicians can upload their profile and share new music in a new, exciting way. Fans discover and vote on their favorite music; artists that get the most votes have a chance at greater exposure through festival performances and other awards. It’s very interesting that Sennheiser–a company who has been making music gear for decades–is providing a new path for artists and fans to experience new music.

The UFC® today announced it is teaming up with Findlay Customs and Modern Muscle Las Vegas to release 10 Limited Edition UFC Chevrolet Camaros. The very first car, “#1” will be auctioned to benefit the Intrepid Fallen Heroes fund, a charity dedicated to providing financial support for the dependents of United States military personnel lost in performance of their duty.

UFC, in conjunction with Findlay Customs and Modern Muscle Las Vegas will build the limited-edition UFC Camaros complete with 650 Super-charged horsepower and one-of-a-kind features that will make even the most die-hard UFC fan or gearhead stand up and take notice. The remaining Camaros (numbered #2 through #10) will be made to UFC fans in the coming months. FOURTH ANNUAL ECHO SONGWRITING PRIZE, PRESENTED BY SOCAN, LAUNCHES SEPTEMBER 1

SOCAN (Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada) is proud to announce the fourth annual ECHO Songwriting Prize, which highlights and celebrates the songwriting talents of some of the best independent and up-and-coming songwriters in Canada.

How it works: An independent panel made up of 10 of the nation’s top music community tastemakers, representing various regions of the country and a diverse collection of musical genres, nominates a total of 30 songs. Once the nomination process is complete, the panelists review each of the nominated songs and, using a point-value system, determine the five songs that will be voted on by the public. The public is then able to listen to the songs and vote for their favourite at www.echoprize.ca. The writer(s) of the winning song will receive a $5,000 cash prize.

Past winners: The 2008 winners, for “Night Windows,” were Stephen Carroll, John Samson, Greg Smith and Jason Tait of the Weakerthans. Toronto rapper Abdominal won the 2007 prize for “Pedal Pusher,” and Winnipeg punk group Propagandhi won in 2006 for “A Speculative Fiction.”
