Foultone Records Presents: Pip Skid
You hear the word all the time in write-ups: transcendence. It’s almost become kitch. But finally, an artist who delivers on the promise. Pip Skid, a longstanding legend of Canadian hip-hop presents Skid Row, an electrifying and energetic blast of socially conscious hip-hop that only solidifies Pip Skid’s position as a force to be reckoned with. His unique brand of hip-hop hits listeners not only on a visceral but cerebral level too.
But why would you expect any less from Pip Skid? Here’s the harsh truth, for those who (unfortunately) might not be familiar with his raging yet thought-provoking brand of hip-hop. Utilizing a range of genres, including driving guitars that elevate his MC skills, Pip Skid has been making music for 17 years and shows no signs of letting up. His live show is renowned for it’s intensity, as the normally reclusive artist sheds his skin and provides a powerful show, leaving audiences clamoring for more.
And Pip Skid does his part to deliver as much of his art as possible to his fans. Starting out with the seminal group Farm Fresh from his native Brandon, Manitoba, Pip held his own at the forefront of a burgeoning hip-hop scene in central Canada in the early 1990’s. He is a cornerstone of the success of indie label Peanuts & Corns Records and has featured on many of their 40 releases. And by day, Pip Skid delivers hip-hop to the youth around him, participating in his “Make Rap Happen” program, which is in high demand with schools and cultural groups. “Make Rap Happen” focuses on the history of hip-hop and teaches children to express themselves through deejaying, performing and recording.
But on March 30th, with the release of Skid Row, Pip Skid will do some weighty self-expression of his own. Tracks like “I Never Knew” presents an infectious, jangly groove with Skid’s trademark socially-frustrated lyrics elevating the track to something, well, transcendent. And the powerful title track echoes some of Cypress Hill’s best work, combining furious guitar solos and fist-in-the-air MC’ing that will no doubt grip audiences with its immediacy. Skid shifts things up on “Ten Dollars” which pays homage to classic, 80’s-influenced hip-hop that will have purists salivating.
There’s no shortage of hip-hop out there today. But Pip Skid presents something different; his brutally honest take on the world around him puts him in a class of his own. And for that, everyone around him is better off.
See Pip Skid live March 13th at the West End Cultural Centre in his hometown of Winnipeg backed by a live band featuring Nestor Wynrush, DJ Kutdown and members of Annihilator, Nova and Banned From Atlantis.

Critically acclaimed rap duo Little Brother are back and ready to takeover speakers for the final time together with their new album, LeftBack. Dropping on April 20th via Hall of Justus, LeftBack will mark the end of an illustrious career by partners in rhyme Phonte and Rapper Big Pooh. The album features production from the likes of Khyrsis, Denaun Porter, J.Bizness and guest vocals from Torae, Truck North, Jozeemo, Chaundon, Median, and more. The send-off for the North Carolina hip-hop heavyweights begins with the release of “Curtain Call,” the poetically titled first single from LeftBack. Rapper Big Pooh sets the tone for the album by declaring that “this is it, the last monologue / last act in the play, you could say the epilogue.” A booming synth line, driving bass and staccato drum pattern intertwine to provide the backdrop for the occasion, while Phonte drives home the album’s message by rapping “You know we don’t quit / but when it’s curtain call then that’s all you gonna get.” The song “basically sums up the history of our career as Little Brother,” says the duo. “This is the last first single you will hear from Little Brother.”
Fans can expect further announcements from Little Brother, including tour info and other interesting developments onLeftBack’s road to the release.

Mazzi and Sneakas (Feat. MC Serch) “Most Hated”
audio link: http://usershare.net/37mtg01lp2tvHere is the first official Video from the rap group Mazzi & Sneakas. It’s called “Most Hated” and it features legendary rapper MC Serch (of 3rd Bass). What separates this duo from every other group is the fact that on one microphone stands a Jewish Israeli (Sneakas), and on the other a Muslim Persian (Mazzi). Mazzi and Sneakas’ music proves not only that non-violent expression between Jews and Muslims can be a reality, but that hip hop can be one step towards the creation of an understanding between these two groups- an understanding that is infinitely overdue.

MP3: Georgia & Declaime - “Heaven Or Hell” Feat. Kool G Rap, Black Milk, & LMNO + Album Release/Show News
In celebration of the digital release of their new LP,Georgia & Declaime are proud to release a brand new single fromSomeOthaShip, “Heaven Or Hell.” Produced by Georgia Anne Muldrow, the track features Black Milk as well as the legendary Kool G Rap and Long Beach MCLMNO, each personifying one of the many layers between heaven and hell. Mello Music Group founder and owner Michael Tolleexplains, “I wanted to create a track that showed two extreme perspectives - Kool G Rap doing his Gangster/Drug Lord/Pimp thing while Declaime & Georgia did their righteous preacher thing.” He continues, “However, LMNO came with the most positive message out of the bunch. In the middle, Black Milk did his thing to perfection. Thus the ‘Heaven Or Hell’ title.”
The track begins eerily with the chorus as LMNO raps, “It’s a balance of life / Darkness and light / We’re giving choice for you / Choose right.” As the bass-heavy, unsettling background sets in, the resonating lyrics challenge what is supposedly good in the world as Kool G Rap, LMNO, Black Milk, and finally Georgia & Declaime take turns laying out their own take on heaven and hell in its various forms. Georgia defends the honor of a higher power through Africa as she raps, “She hold the world together forever / If she fall, we fall / Subject to complete and total recall.” However, she continues that the world is a corrupt place, “Street soldiers used to have honor / Now they walk around hungry and listless.” Declaime follows Georgia’s powerful lines, and as the two trade lines over Georgia’s dark production - Georgia’s sultry rhymes against Declaime’s unorthodox rhythms – the juxtaposition of the two vocals, both in sound and lyric, drive home the song’s heaven or hell theme.
SomeOthaShip is available at all digital retailers today.

Mista Bourne - How You Wanna/Still Me (Debut Music Video)
Here is Mista Bourne’s debut music video and single, “How You Wanna/Still Me” for blog postingMP3: Diamond District - “Who I Be” (Marco Polo Remix) + European Tour Dates
Diamond District’s debut In The Ruff made huge waves last year - ending up on countless year-end lists including heavyweight websites KevinNottingham.com, PopMatters.com, and more, and also continued the avalanche of well-deserved attention to the previously underrated DMV hip-hop scene. Considering the impact that the album made, remixes of some of the cuts were inevitable. A reworking of “I Mean Business” by yU (1/3 of Diamond District) surfaced in late December, and now, Canadian producer Marco Polo, who contributed tracks to Masta Ace’s A Long Hot Summer, Sadat X’s Black October and various Boot Camp Clik projects, including his own Double Barrel project with Torae, is the latest to add new flavor to one of the tracks - reworking one of the album’s top songs, “Who I Be.”
In addition to getting the track out early for fans, Marco Polo’s “Who I Be” Remix will be appearing on Mello Music Group’s Diamond District Remixes album, as well as Duck Down Records’ The Stupendous Adventures Of Marco Polo. Even before hearing the track, the pairing of Marco Polo’s patented boom bap with Diamond District’s own break beat heavy sound is a logical match. Marco Polo’s new flavor is apparent right out of the box, as he drops the low end and adds a serving of catchy keys that give the song a fresh and more bouncy feel. On enlisting Marco Polo for the remix, Mello Music Group founder and Director of Operations, Michael Tolle, says, “Given the success of In The Ruff, we wanted to keep the remixes in a few select hands. Oddisee reached out to Marco on the strength of his Double Barrelrelease with Torae. and Marco came thru with a big radio friendly remix that made fresh use of the original ODB sample.” Keeping the remixes in ready supply, in the coming weeks fans can also expect a remix of “Streets Won’t Let Me Chill”by Detroit’s own Apollo Brown.
