BEN HARPER AND RELENTLESS7 LIVE FROM THE MONTREAL INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL CD/DVD TO BE RELEASED ON MARCH 9, 2010
On July 12, 2009, Ben Harper and Relentless7 captivated a massive crowd of 250,000 with a blistering performance that outshone the fireworks that accompanied it to close the Montreal International Jazz Festival on its 30th Anniversary. “What a memorable show. Ben Harper’s Relentless7 sublimely inspired, rocking like hell,” raves André Ménard, Creative Director of Le Festival de Jazz de Montréal.
Urgent. Infectious. Energized. That’s how Ben Harper and Relentless7 have been characterized and this special CD/DVD combo perfectly captures their impassioned artistry. Music critics praised the band’s performance with statements such as: “Ben Harper and the Restless 7: worthy of fireworks” (Journal de Montreal) and “Ben Harper powerfully espresses himself. Uncompromisingly intense, the pedal to the metal.” (Le Devoir).
The band too were incredibly moved by their experience of closing the esteemed Montreal Jazz Festival. “One of the greatest festivals in the world, in one of the greatest cities in the world, the Montreal International Jazz Festival has long been a musical home for me. This show was exceptionally special to myself and band because it felt like the entire city was there with us that night,” says Ben Harper.
The CD/DVD which will be released on March 9, 2010 gives those who attended the opportunity to relive the excitement of this unforgettable performance. It also allows fans who missed the event a chance to still experience the magic, including exciting covers of ‘Under Pressure‘ & ‘Red House.’

THRILLER: A Devil’s Night Extravaganza Featuring the Music of Michael Jackson performed live by Quadrasonic & IVANA SANTILLI
On devil’s night, 2009 Toronto’s very own Ivana Santilli performs Michael Jackson’s Thriller album live with the Quadrasonic orchestra, Wade O’Brown and Chico Ramirez as part of THRILLER Presented by Quadrasonic, Toronto’s go-to crew for all music that’s funky, unique and electronic. Generously supported and made possible by Heineken Music, Thriller will be a live, note for note rendition of the iconic 1982 album of the same name that will take place at the historic Great Hall 1087 Queen Street West, at 10 p.m, and will be preceded at 7 p.m by Robot’s Ball: SPUN, an early art show featuring video, dance, and music by celebrated local artists and curated by the artist Ulysses Castellanos.
Opening the evening is a video screening of films by Jubal Brown, Jennifer Matotek, Jorge Lozano, Maria Legault, Lauren DiMonter, Aleks Ognjanovich, Hugo Ares and Ulysses Castellanos’s Superexorcist video installation. Robot’s Ball: SPUN will close the art show – a high-energy Mash-up of Music, Video, Performance Art and Contemporary Dance featuring performances by Ulysses Castellanos and Ottawa’s Theodore Pelmus as well as a dance piece by Malgorzata Nowacka and Timothy Spronk (The Chimera Project) a collaborative tour de force that promises to raise the hair on the back of the neck.
DJ’s Boris Kidconga, Alvaro C, DMT, Andy Roberts, LBC & Baller will kick Thriller into 5th gear as they warm up the stage for a vintage phenomenon incarnate – The music of the Legendary Album by the late King of pop as every keyboard patch, every fat Moog bass line, every horn stab and mathematically calculated drum beat comes to life as the master production of Quincy Jones fashioned it.
