The ubiquitous electro-dancehall duo Major Lazer has partnered with English synthpop outfit La Roux to create Lazerproof, a mixtape to be released for free on Wednesday, May 26th from Mad Decent!

On their self-titled debut from Cherrytree / Interscope, La Roux front-woman Elly Jackson channels her new wave and pop influences and projects them onto a backdrop of intricate electronic musings co-produced by Ben Langmaid. Major Lazer’s brain-trust (Diplo and Switch), partner with them to bring the newest mixtape that was put together while on a recent trip to Jamaica.

Lazerproof plays on both groups’ styles and the result is a project that is only vaguely recognizable as the sum of its parts- ska, dubstep, hip-hop and pop stars aligning to create a synth-Britania meets dubstep dancehall gem.  Guest appearances from Gucci ManeDrakeGyptianRusko andAmanda Blank add the infamous Mad Decent touch.

The mixtape is free to those who register this Wednesday, May 26th on Mad Decent’s website:

MAJOR LAZER ANNOUNCES NEW EP, LAZERS NEVER DIE, COMING JULY 20th!

129NEW TRACKS FEATURING M.I.A. AND COLLIE BUDDZ, REMIXES FROM THOM YORKE, BURAKA SOM SISTEMA & MORE

MAJOR LAZER’S GUIDE TO DAGGERING STARRING SKERRIT BWOY, WORLD PREMIERE

Armed to the teeth with island swagger and airhorns in abundance, the dynamic duo of Diplo and Switch return as Major Lazer with a new EP, Lazers Never Die out July 20th! Unsurprisingly, they’re again joined by an army of A-list collaborators and remixers. The title is a testament; the EP, to be released by Mad Decent/Downtown/Interscope , succeeds in its intent to stoke the flames that were ignited with Guns Don’t Kill People, Lazers Do, their much-lauded 2009 full-length debut.

The product of ceaseless global touring and countless hours at the infamous Tuff Gong studios in Kingston, Jamaica, Lazers Never Die looks beyond the dancehall riddims of their debut and focuses on an authentic, instrument-driven dancehall approach. Chief-cosigner Collie Buddz is in attendance for the brand-new “Good Enough“, while longtime collaborator M.I.A. does her thing on the appropriately-titled opening track, “Sound of Siren“. Bangers from their first release are reinterpreted by a wide swathe of talent including international dance heroes Buraka Som Sistemaas well as Thom Yorke, whose disparate, pseudo dub-step leanings add a welcome melancholy tinge to the spastic “Jump Up“.

You’ve been warned – Major Lazer is coming for you! See below for upcoming Major Lazer shows across the globe. Not sure you’ve got the right moves for one of the greatest live spectacles you’ll see all year? Check the world premiere of Major Lazer’s Guide to Daggering starring Skerrit Bwoy.

MAD DECENT ANNOUNCES NEW SIGNINGS FOR 2010!

strikeMad Decent has had a paramount year with releases from Diplo & Switch’s dancehall collaborationMajor Lazer, Dominican by way of the Bronx cumbia songstress Maluca, a Buraka Som Sistemaremix EP and more.

Garnering the cover of the Fader Music Issue, alongside features in Paste, XLR8R, Billboard, URB, Big Shot and Anthem, Mad Decent is preparing for their most challenging and exciting year to come with the announcement of three new signings: Rusko, Bosco Delrey and Popo.

Mad Decent will jumpstart spring with the first full-length release from UK dubstep phenom, Rusko. The North American debut, “OMG“, follows massive singles like Mr. Chips and Cockney Thug plus recent remixes for Kid Cudi, Basement Jaxx, Little Boots, The Prodigy, Kid Sister and tons more. It is slated for a March 2010 release and features new productions alongside collaborations with Crookers, Chali 2una and more.

After strong reception from their first 7″ release, ‘Kill Tonight‘, everyone’s favorite gigantic Pakistani three-some, Popo, will release their debut full length this spring on Mad Decent. The three Philadelphia brothers blend reverb-drenched garage with a youthful punk spirit to make loud, melodic washes of noise and pop. Ariel Rechtshaid, producer of the most recent Cass McCombs and We Are Scientists albums, will be contributing to the production roles.

A relatively unknown songwriter, Bosco Delrey, is the newest member of the Mad Decent collective of artists.  His unique version of rockabilly, dub and electronic music make him a likely candidate to join the Mad Decent family.  His music was brought to the attention of Diplo via Paul Devro (resident Mad Decent DJ) and friend 77Klash.  Bosco’s interpretation of Chuck Berry’s “Round and Round”tipped the scales and lead to signing him for a full length, slated for release in 2010.

Mad Decent will also be embarking on an evolution of their on-line space.  Bringing on writers, editors, artists and the like to expose news, music, culture, art and so forth via their website.  The undertaking has taken months but is a very exciting venture for the Mad Decent team.  Expect columns by Jason Musson of Too Black For BET, Skerrit Bwoy At The Movies, zombie fights and more.

You can also expect a retrospective of the Hollertronix series, where Diplo cut his teeth at the now seminal Philadelphia party thru a cadre of white label edits and mix records.

All of this will be started with an early 2010 release of a Mad Decent label compilation, featuring a retrospective of past favorites, unreleased remixes and brand new material from the roster.

If you thought 2009 was Mad Decent’s finest, you ain’t seen nothing yet!

ABOUT THE MIX
Today marks the tenth installment of Mishkaʼs illustrious Keep Watch mixes. From the outset, music has always played a big role in shaping the Mishka brand. With strong ties to various artists, and a creative team that is constantly inspired and influenced by their musical predilections the Keep Watch Mixes have become as much of the Mishka fabric as its seasonal line.
Ten volumes and approximately one year later, the mixes have greatly exceeded all expectations. As a result, weʼve decided to celebrate the 10th installment in a special way. For our tenth volume, we enlisted the services of electro-reggae-dancehall virtuoso Major Lazer. And to coincide with the special mix, Mishka produced a limited run Major Lazer tee designed by Skinny Digital. Long time supporters of Mishka and often considered family, the t-shirt was a perfect way to compliment the Major Lazer curated mix.
