Marco Polo The Stupendous Adventures of Marco Polo

l_615c4c93de304479b7795bb3d0a37176New Album in Stores June 29th on Duck Down Music

Lacing the world with hard-hitting bangers that maintain the head-nodding traditions of that raw East Coast boom bap, Toronto’s Marco Polo is back with another classic release through Duck Down Music. Since dropping Pumpkinhead’s Orange Moon Over Brooklyn in 2003 on Soulspazm Records — Marco’s first full-length production — until his latest 2010 Duck Down release with fire spitter Ruste Juxx, The eXXecution, Marco Polo has collected a catalog of records that would make any new jack producer second guess his career path.

Throughout his eight-years of relentless recording on critically acclaimed albums Port AuthorityDouble Barrel and The eXXecution, the numerous unreleased tracks, b-sides and remixes that are as ill as the rest, but never found a home, have been collected and compiled by MP to create The Stupendous Adventures of Marco Polo“My crew and I, which includes Shylow and DJ Linx, put a lot of work into this music and just because something is older and has never been released doesn’t mean it’s scrap — we put a lot of work into it and we want people to hear it,” explains MP. Marco further laments, “there are a lot of tracks on here that were never available on CD before, or even iTunes.”

Blessing MP’s production on The Stupendous Adventures of Marco Polo are rhyming heavyweights like Large Professor, Skoob of Das EFX, Grand Daddy IU, Royce da 5’9,” Elzhi, Torae, Skyzoo, Ruste Juxx, and Diamond District. The album also features MC’s like Red Clay, Shylow, Saga, Promise, Surreal, D-Story, Bad Seed and Arcee.

This album was an opportunity for me to introduce people that my fans may have never heard of before — guys like Shylow, Red Clay and Saga,” explains MP. He continues, “I want people to know that when they see my name attached to something, they’re getting quality and consistency. This album is for the hardcore MP fans out there that just wanna have something to rock while I’m working on Port Authority 2. I’m locking myself in the lab on some caveman status for that one.”

And what’s the meaning of the interesting album title? “The Stupendous Adventures of Marco Polo was a title Shylow came up with as a joke but I loved it and instantly wanted to rock it as the title for this project. It’s sh*t loads of fun to say and my pops use to say “Stupendous” all the time growing up so I thought it fit perfectly. My pops says a lot of crazy sh*t!” jokes Marco. He may be a funny dude with a classic sense of humor, but you better believe that what is blasting out of his tattered MPC2000XL in his Brooklyn lab is nothing to laugh at.

North Carolina’s own, Kam Moyeaka Supastition, teams up with up and coming Bay Area director,Charles Barcelona (Homegrown Outfitters/Right Lane Ent) for theMarco Polo-produced banger, “Forever Fresh.” The video is done documentary-style and showcases Kam in various behind-the-scenes clips, past videos, and show footage from performances in the U.S. and abroad. The rest of the video was shot on location in San Francisco and Los Angeles. The song itself is reminiscent of the former Supastition sound with Kam spitting rapid fire, while still dropping jewels like “I’m what happens when a child prodigy grows up.” Marco Polo’s head nodding production shines brilliantly throughout the track triumphant horn stabs and classic boom bap drums leave the perfect backdrop for Kam’s ferocity. “Forever Fresh” is the b-side to Kam Moye’s official second single and album title track, “Splitting Image.”

Also, be sure to also check out Kam’s appearance on the official Wake Up Show Anthem 2010, which also features appearances from Tajai of Souls Of Mischief, Crooked ITech N9neThe RZARas Kass, B-Real, and more.

MP3: Diamond District – “Who I Be” (Marco Polo Remix) + European Tour Dates

diamond_district-05Diamond District’s debut In The Ruff made huge waves last year – ending up on countless year-end lists including heavyweight websites KevinNottingham.com, PopMatters.com, and more, and also continued the avalanche of well-deserved attention to the previously underrated DMV hip-hop scene. Considering the impact that the album made, remixes of some of the cuts were inevitable. A reworking of “I Mean Business” by yU (1/3 of Diamond District) surfaced in late December, and now, Canadian producer Marco Polo, who contributed tracks to Masta Ace’s A Long Hot SummerSadat X’s Black October and various Boot Camp Clik projects, including his own Double Barrel project with Torae, is the latest to add new flavor to one of the tracks – reworking one of the album’s top songs, “Who I Be.”

In addition to getting the track out early for fans, Marco Polo’s “Who I Be” Remix will be appearing on Mello Music Group’s Diamond District Remixes album, as well as Duck Down Records’ The Stupendous Adventures Of Marco Polo. Even before hearing the track, the pairing of Marco Polo’s patented boom bap with Diamond District’s own break beat heavy sound is a logical match. Marco Polo’s new flavor is apparent right out of the box, as he drops the low end and adds a serving of catchy keys that give the song a fresh and more bouncy feel. On enlisting Marco Polo for the remix, Mello Music Group founder and Director of Operations, Michael Tolle, says, “Given the success of In The Ruff, we wanted to keep the remixes in a few select hands. Oddisee reached out to Marco on the strength of his Double Barrelrelease with Torae. and Marco came thru with a big radio friendly remix that made fresh use of the original ODB sample.” Keeping the remixes in ready supply, in the coming weeks fans can also expect a remix of “Streets Won’t Let Me Chill”by Detroit’s own Apollo Brown.

Marco Polo & Ruste Juxx Set The eXXecution

20100127-exxAlbum In Stores March 23rd, 2010 on Duck Down Records

Album Is Entirely Produced By Marco Polo and Features Appearances From Sean Price, Black Moon (Buckshot, 5FT & DJ Evil Dee), Rock of Heltah Skeltah, Freddie Foxxx & DJ Revolution

Marco Polo & Ruste Juxx have combined forces to bring fans a serious dose of hardcore Hip Hop. The eXXecution is entirely produced by Marco Polo with Ruste Juxx providing gut-wrenching vocals over heavy hitting drums.

Marco Polo explains that a “simple studio session to play beats turned into Ruste Juxx recording 9 songs. The joints came out so crazy that we said let’s turn this into a full-length album. Working with Duck Down all these years it was only a matter of time before Juxx and I got to a specific project. The best part is the work happened organically. Nothing was forced. Ruste came through, heard beats, wrote, recorded…done deal. March 23rd is The eXXecution!”

The album, which has been finalized features Sean Price, Black Moon (Buckshot, 5FT & DJ Evil Dee), Rock of Heltah Skeltah, DJ Revolution, and Freddie Foxxx.

Ruste Juxx describes the album as “straight eXXecuting. I’m killing off wack MCs and Marco’s murdering the producers. I couldn’t help but to write some killer shit to the beats Marco made. If I wrote something wack to his production, then it’s a wasted beat. I can’t have that! “
