Мишка Presents ℑ⊇≥◊≤⊆ℜ (of Mater Suspiria Vision): Zombie Rave Special Edition

We have a huge boner for Witch House/Drag. If you have no clue what we’re talking about, well step up your game playboy! Witch House/Drag is one part Goth, one part DJ Screw, one part horror movies, and one part 90s house comp… We’d like to imagine that most of Witch House is made by a bunch of kids doing A LOT of drugs, but some of these bands have their shit so together that it can’t be that simple.

Think of it as Goth music for a new generation and a new millennium, fully embracing all the things that drew kids into the genre through the 70s and 80s—the secrecy, the occultism, the suspense, the danger, and the moodiness—but minus all the things that turned people off from it in the 90s—the neon dreads, the vinyl pants, the fangs, and the platform industrial boots.

Of all the names making waves on the blogosphere, the collective known as Mater Suspiria Vision (along with SALEM) have established themselves as among the best of the best. These guys not only make their own songs, but have a seemingly endless stream of remixes, videos, and mixtapes that they churn out at an almost ridiculous pace. Not a day goes by without something new from this camp of electronic occultists. We haven’t seen a band capture sheer terror quite this well since Skinny Puppy of the 80s and 90s.

This summer, ℑ⊇≥◊≤⊆ℜ(yes that’s his name) of MSV started up the rather ambitious Zombie Rave Mixtape series, which forms the third unholy side in MSV’s triumvirate (the other pieces of which are their videos and their own music). These Zombie Raves are usually around hours of pop and dance music remixed and slowed down to a codeine pace and littered with horror movie samples. We’re fully aware that this has the potential to be completely unbearable. But trust us when we say it’s actually transfixing, especially if you’re the sort of person who is into darker dance music.

This Special Edition for Mishka is now the 4th Zombie Rave mixtape to come out this summer and among all the runes and mysticism, these mixes are starting to present a clearer definition and a broader scope to Witch House. Zombie Raves reanimate the dead and bloated corpses of decades of pop, rock and dance hits until they’re wholly their own catchy and evil creations that get your body moving while freaking you the fuck out.

This Zombie Rave: Special Edition is the first Zombie Rave mix to be released with an open-ended download policy. There were only 100 downloads for the original Zombie Rave, 200 for part 2 and 300 for part 3. If you didn’t catch them when they debuted, you were usually left out in the cold in just a day’s time. Anyone who is still salty about that, well this Special Edition Zombie Rave is for you. An hour and a half of pop and electro “dragged” through the deepest bowls of Hell, creating a dance party most are unaccustomed to hearing. Chug some syrup and prepare for time to stand still, your mind to be blown and to love every minute of it.

Mishka The Hood Internet – Trillwave Mix

Basic CMYK
Basic CMYKTrillwave is the newest mixtape from Chicago duo The Hood Internet made exclusively for Mishka. While their ongoing mixtape series has been built around genre-blending party starters, Trillwave is the soundtrack to the party after the afterparty or maybe to a sun-drenched backyard barbecue the next day. Drake sips iced tea with Beach House; Ice Cube cruises through South Central L.A. with CFCF riding shotgun, and Birdman and Lil Wayne share a blunt with Washed Out.

Mishka Keep Watch 19 – DEATHFACE

kwxixfrontrevABOUT THE MIX
If there independence could be a sound, it would be a ton of bass to your face! Death Face delivers a great summer mix for our Keep Watch series including his new remix for our Мишка Records 01, Blessure Graves’ “Stranger In The House”. Its a jam packed hour of his pulsing and heavy hitting industrial dubstep remixes and originals. Plus it features an array of familiar faces such as Drop The Lime, Benga, Egyptrixx and Flinch. Special mention goes to our own Shark’s project with Italian rave legend Digital Boy as they remix the biggest hit of the summer, Congorock’s “Babylon” which will soon be released with a remix pack on Fool’s Gold.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
DEATHFACE is the hive mind entity created by Johnny Love of Guns ‘N’ Bombs (Kitsune Records). During his last incarnation as GNB, he sold out Tokyo’s Womb and Osaka’s Triangle club on his Japan tour in ’07 and made everyone sorry they ever danced to his beats as bodies were left behind from the barrage of bass. As Deathface, he still continues his musical onslaught but has moved into darker and heavier territories as he fuses together sounds of dubstep, industrial, metal and a healthy dose of heavy bass. Deathface is the sound of your nightmares from which you will never wake up!

The mix continues with classic Dj Narrows track followed up with a handful of grime riddims that will blow your mind such as Rebound X’s “Rhythm ‘N’ Gash”. the grand finale is comprised of  NMBRS records exclusives from SRC and Kavsrave followed by dubstep innovators Joker, Benga and a current favorite of ours Dubbel Dutch’s edit of Youngsta’s “Bongo”.

Mishka Coop Art Show @ 350 Broadway

Basic RGBOpening on Friday June 4th, Mishka presents a series of work from Los Angeles based Coop at their Brooklyn based 350 Broadway gallery.  This will mark the first time since 2001 that Coop will be showing any work in New York. The show is a collection of work inspired by Coop’s recent collaboration with Nag Nag Nag on his Boryoku Genjin figure.  Much of the preliminary work and concepts such as original sketches and header card will be included in the show as well as a very special custom figure by the creator of Nag Nag Nag.

Coop arrived in Los Angeles in the late 80’s where he immediately got to work subverting the mainstream applying his artwork to a number of merchandise including t-shirts, mugs, posers and even Zippo lighters.  Much of his work included doing a host of poster art, including rock posters for Nirvana, Soundgarden, The Sex Pistols and album cover art for notable bands like the Monomen and the Ramones.

During his illustrious career, Coop has been featured in numerous magazines and has published two books - The Devil’s Advocate and THE BIG FAT ONE, a 1008-page sketchbook, which was released in October 2002.

Coop cites Robert Williams, R. Crumb and Eric Stanton as some of his favorites and great influences, in addition to Big Daddy Roth, Irving Klaw, Wally Wood, Gil Elvgren, and a host of other degenerates.

Mishka Summer Lookbook 2010 – Too Much Too Young

img_16No matter what any astrological calendar might say Mishka knows it’s the year of the lazy sunbathers. So while you’re hustling to pay next months rent, ignoring the difference between day and night, or just hanging out on the summer stoop, Mishka has figured out how you can look good while doing it all.

When the day of recovery turns out better than the night before Mishka will be there. When you need to improve your street cred Mishka will be there. When you’re friends tell you to meet them by the pier and you decide to get a new bunch of friends Mishka will NOT be there, because we’re all about friends, and this collection’s all about hanging out in the sun with them…and slappin’ five!

Focusing on the three F’s – form, function and flare. There’s something for all of our miscreant friends. Starting with a collection of Tshirts inspired by original Hardcore-punk bands like Bad Brains and Crass, each shirt becomes a cult classic.

From the pinstripe short to the Alexei Japanese Raw Selvage Denim, the summer 2010 collection has you prepared for the unpredictable weather patterns brought on by global warming – even though we all know it’s a myth (sorry Al Gore). And don’t worry, if plaid and fashion versatility are your thing the collection brings a plethora of new button downs and button ups…but mostly ups.

The Mishka 2010 Summer Lookbook was shot by Eliz Weinberg, and the collection will debut online on May 28th and be available for purchase at Mishka stores and vendors worldwide.

Mishka Keep Watch 17 – AC SLATER

kwxviifrontABOUT THE MIX

This month’s Keep Watch Mix comes courtesy of our hometown bass warrior AC Slater of the infamous Trouble & Basscrew. These pounding 33 minutes drive you through his upcoming release peppered with a host of acapellas to intensify the experience, which starts out with the Drop The Lime remix of Slater’s upcoming single “Take You Higher”.  It then progresses to a more bass-heavy and dubstep sound provided by the help of label mates Ninjasonik and Klash77. Wrapping it up with a 3am “Eternal” vibe that comes courtesy of Luna C – the old school rave producer of 92 Eternal’s “The Feeling”.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

AC Slater (Aaron Clevenger) has been gaining notoriety for cultivating a bass dominant sound becoming one of the most sought after producers of the past 2 years. Raised on 90′s hip-hop and nourished by old skool rave Slater has successfully combined these influences into his own unique style of music production. He was taken on by the Brooklyn label, Trouble & Bass, home to Math Head, Passions and Drop the Lime. Over the past few years Slater has had consistent radio play on BBC 1 and Kiss 100 in the UK, and has been seen as an integral part in the DJ sets of Moby, Tommie Sunshine, Crookers, The Freestylers, MSTRKRFT, Drop the Lime and Stanton Warriors. In the first half of 2010 Slater is set to release his next single ‘Take You’ on Trouble & Bass, followed by the eagerly anticipated ‘Calm Down’ trilogy EP. With the help of T&B, 10 years behind the decks and an arsenal of tracks Slater shows no signs of slowing down. Booking shows across Europe, the UK, Canada, Mexico, Asia and Australia he has been leaving a trail of adrenaline, shattered speakers and loyal fans behind him. He plans to do the same this spring throughout his world tour; all the while working on his debut album due in 2011.
