Mixtape: Erk Tha Jerk – Hood Nerd 2: Memoirs Of The Invisible Man
On Erk Tha Jerk’s Hood Nerd 2: Memoirs Of The Invisible Man, Erk ends his first song, “One In A Million Freestyle” with, “The mixtape free, no charge it’s on me/ These throw away moves, you can keep the music.” He’s being modest. While the mixtape may be free, Erk’s flow really shines. His vocals have range; his command of each song allows him to rhythmically switch up his rhymes, making each song unique. On the concept of the mixtape, Erk explains, “Memoirs Of The Invisible Man is my way of saying I’m here even when you can’t see me; a shot at the people who pretend I’m not in the room until it’s too late.”
Hood Nerd 2 is a generous offering for a mixtape. Beyond having twenty-one tracks, the overall composition is very eclectic. “Givin It” is a banger with hard, fun production; the track could easily be on an LP. Then, there are freestyle tracks like “One In A Million Freestyle,” with raw production that are pure demonstrations of Erk’s ability as an emcee. “When I’m in ‘hood nerd’ mode I tend to just let go,” notes Erk on the creation process. “I say what I want when I want and make sure to create anti-radio music–it’s just hip-hop with twenty-four bar verses where I can be as lyrical as I want.”
Look out for Erk Tha Jerk’s Nerds Eye View coming soon.

Mixtape: Billy Mitchell Presents: Sleigh Bells Remixed By Metermaids
With their new single, “We Ztay Shynin’” (Treats Remix), Brooklyn natives Metermaids lace their brash lyrics over the ear splitting beats of Sleigh Bells’ “Treats.” The song is just one of five Sleigh Bells tracks on the new remix EP that can be downloaded from the band’s website now. The track blends the in-your-face and unapologetic style that both acts exude. MC’s Swell and Sentence strongly admire Sleigh Bells, stating, “We really dig Sleigh Bells and thought they’re music would be amazing to remix, which it is.” Although the group did say that they wanted to keep the project light-hearted the lyrical content does contain a few cleverly placed jabs. “It was also a subtle dig at a few institutions of the music world that we wanted to bully, but not in a real obvious way,” explains Sentence. The duo re-affirms their position as hip-hop’s “Bad News Bears” by delivering their lyrics with an outwardly nasty attitude, encouraging those who can’t handle the grind of the city to move out to Hackensack. The blaring guitar continuously looped throughout the song is a striking compliment to the rappers’ style, and although Alexi Krauss‘ vocal styling is an angelic contrast to the song’s vibe it comes off as anything but polite. The gritty collaboration on the new remix EP should serve as a perfect selection for the ears while rolling through the city streets.
Also, be on the lookout for Metermaids’ upcoming album with 9th Wonder, Rooftop Shake, hitting stores soon.

Мишка Presents ℑ⊇≥◊≤⊆ℜ (of Mater Suspiria Vision): Zombie Rave Special Edition
We have a huge boner for Witch House/Drag. If you have no clue what we’re talking about, well step up your game playboy! Witch House/Drag is one part Goth, one part DJ Screw, one part horror movies, and one part 90s house comp… We’d like to imagine that most of Witch House is made by a bunch of kids doing A LOT of drugs, but some of these bands have their shit so together that it can’t be that simple.
Think of it as Goth music for a new generation and a new millennium, fully embracing all the things that drew kids into the genre through the 70s and 80s—the secrecy, the occultism, the suspense, the danger, and the moodiness—but minus all the things that turned people off from it in the 90s—the neon dreads, the vinyl pants, the fangs, and the platform industrial boots.
Of all the names making waves on the blogosphere, the collective known as Mater Suspiria Vision (along with SALEM) have established themselves as among the best of the best. These guys not only make their own songs, but have a seemingly endless stream of remixes, videos, and mixtapes that they churn out at an almost ridiculous pace. Not a day goes by without something new from this camp of electronic occultists. We haven’t seen a band capture sheer terror quite this well since Skinny Puppy of the 80s and 90s.
This summer, ℑ⊇≥◊≤⊆ℜ(yes that’s his name) of MSV started up the rather ambitious Zombie Rave Mixtape series, which forms the third unholy side in MSV’s triumvirate (the other pieces of which are their videos and their own music). These Zombie Raves are usually around hours of pop and dance music remixed and slowed down to a codeine pace and littered with horror movie samples. We’re fully aware that this has the potential to be completely unbearable. But trust us when we say it’s actually transfixing, especially if you’re the sort of person who is into darker dance music.
This Special Edition for Mishka is now the 4th Zombie Rave mixtape to come out this summer and among all the runes and mysticism, these mixes are starting to present a clearer definition and a broader scope to Witch House. Zombie Raves reanimate the dead and bloated corpses of decades of pop, rock and dance hits until they’re wholly their own catchy and evil creations that get your body moving while freaking you the fuck out.
This Zombie Rave: Special Edition is the first Zombie Rave mix to be released with an open-ended download policy. There were only 100 downloads for the original Zombie Rave, 200 for part 2 and 300 for part 3. If you didn’t catch them when they debuted, you were usually left out in the cold in just a day’s time. Anyone who is still salty about that, well this Special Edition Zombie Rave is for you. An hour and a half of pop and electro “dragged” through the deepest bowls of Hell, creating a dance party most are unaccustomed to hearing. Chug some syrup and prepare for time to stand still, your mind to be blown and to love every minute of it.

PUSSYFOOT – July 2010: The Second Pussyfoot Summertime Mixtape
We here at PUSSYFOOT are going to keep this one short and sweet. With the 2 YEAR ANNIVERSARY of your favorite internet-radio programme looming, we are busy prepping what is going to be an eventful August. That’s not to say, however, that we are slackin’ in the least. No sir-ee! In fact, we’ve gone to the ends of the musical Earth to secure some shiny summertime jewels for the JULY 2010 PUSSYFOOT SUMMER MIXTAPE.
Our correspondents are on-point despite this crippling heat. First up, cylindrical cineaste (and mixtape posterboy) BLAKE EVERETT gives us the skinny on the film of the season, director Christopher Nolan’s INCEPTION. Populist fare, mind you, but Blake manages to keep it all in perspective, giving the film a fair-Blake-shake despite his unabashed adoration of matinee icon Leo DiCaprio. MISS SHELLEY–a summertime betty of epic proportions–stops by to remember a Brazilian enchantress whose title as ‘supreme supercentenarian’ ruffled more than a few tail feathers before her recent passing. And rounding out this cavalcade of cacophony is none other than Mr. Clickety-Clack hisself EDDIE ROUSE. Never one to cower from sweltering dog days, Mr. Rouse brings the heat to a two-pack of listener questions in a scintillating “Sagelike Advice” segment. And, as an added bonus, our correspondents offer-up their own summer-specific tunes for our packed playlist.
And speaking of playlists, Matt and Matt kick out the summertime jamz with a docket of obscure garage proto-punkers, legendary reggae partystarters, and an underrated tribe of hip-hop crazies. So prick up your ears for the likes of A. MORE, ONE WAY STREETS, TOTALLY INSANE, JUNIOR MURVIN, CULTS and many more.
So join us, won’t you? Only online at http://www.thehomeofpussyfoot.com
Hang ten,
PF
