This past week Tribe opened up a couple of shows for Kanye’s Yeezus tour in NYC. At the time the shows were announced, Q-Tip said the 2 concerts would be the last ATCQ shows EVER! Like every other Tribe fan, we are hoping that this is going to go the way of most artist’s “last show” and result in another Tribe show somewhere down the road. Also like every other Tribe fan, this news made the “A Tribe Called Quest Stan” in us very sad but unlike every other fan we decided to make a mixtape that celebrates the greatness that is Q-Tip the Abstract, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed MuHammad, and (sometimes) Jarobi!
The mixtape art and download link are below (there is a split track version available at THE LOVE THEORY soundcloud page as well).
On the real, there is just so much ill music from A Tribe Called Quest that just one mixtape can’t do them justice. Their album cuts and b-sides are just as dope as anything they have released as a single (for Tribe’s rarities and b-sides please see our dude Mick Boogie’s Excursions mixtape that came out a few years back – you can call that the b-side to this tape!). For the purpose of this mix, we decided to hit you with Tribe’s bigger records – we just flipped them a bit. This isn’t your standard A Tribe Called Quest mixtape as we have tried to capture the energy and creativity that has defined Tribe throughout the years.
Also, shout out to our friend Martini at Vancity Original and DIPT for jumping on board to help us bring you THE LOVE THEORY. To go along with this mixtape we also made limited edition Vancity Original “Tribe” tees that you can cop at DIPT along with a hard copy of THE LOVE THEORY.
A Tribe Called Quest represent, represent-sent! Enjoy.

Juven’s “Unreleased Data Tape” displays a big contrast from his last project, “Space Trademark: The Sessions”. “U.D.T” gives more of a raw feel in comparison to the last album. You also have to keep in mind that “U.D.T” is a mixtape. The mixtape is hosted by Coast 2 Coast’s DJ Thomas Handsome, and has 18 tracks that were recorded before and after Juven’s last album. This is why he decided to name it “Unreleased Data Tape”.
Big Hud (Dallas) and Beeda Weeda (East Oakland) come together to release their highly anticipated collaborative effort, “The Calm Before The Storm.” The 19 track mixtape features production by Beeda Weeda, Erk Tha Jerk, Quint Black, Cardo, Keise On The Track and more.
Tum Tum, Mistah Fab and more all make guest appearances while Bay Area legend Too $hort and Atlanta’s own Rittz are featured on the iTunes only version. “The Calm Before The Storm” serves as a prelude to Big Hud and Beeda Weeda’s forthcoming album, “The Storm,” slated for a 2014 release.
Turns out, the reason for FowL’s secrecy was that he wanted this new tape to be a total Surprise, so… surprise! With frequent collaborator Clockwork Muzik serving as Executive Producer, there is no shortage of lush production for FowL to rhyme on here.
In the beginning there was Jalapeno and Jalapeno had a groove and from this groove came the groove of all grooves and while one day viciously throwing down on his box Jalapeno declared let there be house…
Think that was how it went anyway …
House music. Six or so years after a greek journalist told us dance music is dead it’s once again the dominant force in electronic music. How long that will last who know or cares. It always comes round again because people always love losing it on the dancefloor to a rhythm that matches their heartbeat. We’ve always been partial to a 4/4 beat at Jalapeno and this collection of remixes and original tracks showcases that side of what we do.
Excuse us if we don’t split it further down into dub house, disco house, afro house, bleak house, tech-house or all the other micro genres. It’s all house music to us.
From the silky satin jackets mix of Gero to the scarlet pimpernel of house Kid Crème, through this year’s Ibiza legend Solomun and underground hipsters Psychemagik, we have some killer cuts for your ears.
Respect to all the artists on the label who offered up their tracks to be remixed and indulged us in our passion for seeing some amazing songs given a full on 4/4 freak out.

TLC was a very prominent force in the rap game in the early 90s. They were one of the best selling females groups of all time. They just recently had a documentary based on their career titled “CrazySexyCool” that detailed their life and struggles in the music industry.
Bad business aside, TLC made a lot of great music, and DJ Dave Dolla put together a mix to showcase some of their greatest work.

“While making this record I felt a certain way & I feel like we captured that mood. If you’re a listener of my music, this isn’t the typical TyPhilly or MILC sound that we usually bring, but it’s something different & shows another side. This project is about the things I never & if I do, rarely talk about on a record. These were my lost thoughts, until now.”

“This mix is a fun collaboration between us. It’s to put you in a good mood and to help you forget about the problems in your world. Eric and I worked together on track selection but I made sure I got a couple of my tracks in there including an UZISEX bootleg of Khia’s My Neck My Back and a Neu Girl mash of Breach’s Jack and Upper Echelon by Travi$ Scott. My favorite track in the mix has to be Twerk 4 Gold by Valentino Khan. It’s impossible not to act a fool when you hear it.” - DJ Neu Girl
