Chris Akinyemi- “Teenage Love”

http://www.divshare.com/download/13665836-43b

Fans and supporters can finally rejoice! Pop/ R&B singer/ songwriter Chris Akinyemi releases his eagerly anticipated second single “Teenage Love” from his upcoming EP “Autumn”. Produced by Aaron “Dboy” Monroe (Monica’s Everything to me, Missy Elliot, Souldiggaz, Chris Akinyemi’s Radio), this record is presided by a smooth acoustic guitar riff and then breaks its suspense with an electrifying and energetic catchy hook.

This song reminisces back to Chris’ adolescent years and how easily he was swayed by an infatuation with a young lady.

Chris Akinyemi explains: “This record applies to many because of how this sort of infatuation moves past one’s teenage years. It could happen in your 20’s, 30’s or anytime. It was a lesson learned, because I was neglecting my friends and not focusing on the things that mattered to me anymore”.

Chris Akinyemi debut EP “Autumn” is slated for release later on this Spring.

Fat Beats Announces Closing Of New York And Los Angeles Retail Stores

After 16 years, Fat Beats has announced the closing of the legendary label’s two remaining retail locations in New York and Los Angeles. Fat Beats will celebrate the legacies of the stores, which are scheduled to close in early September (New York: September 4th, Los Angeles: September 18th) by throwing a series of blow-out sales and tribute parties open to the public during their last weeks. Fans can check www.FatBeats.com for updates.

Fat Beats’ longest running and most famed location is at 406 Avenue of the Americas in Manhattan. Since the 1994 opening of Fat Beats’ flagship retail location, hip-hop fans have traveled far and wide to visit the iconic store. With locations soon following in Los Angeles (7600 Melrose Ave.), Atlanta, Amsterdam, and Tokyo, the record stores were a place to experience hip-hop culture and its legacy, which became a global phenomenon. “The closing of Fat Beats is just like one of my friends passing away. They promoted vinyl at its highest degree for the culture of good music and that makes it more difficult to say goodbye,” says DJ Premier.

The announcement of the closings is a reflection of the woes that have been plaguing the industry for years. Global chainHMV closed their last US location in 2004. Tower Records shuttered in 2006. Last year saw the close of the last Virgin Megastore, and the story is no different in 2010. For Fat Beats, maintaining two stores well into 2010 is a testament to the stores’ importance to the music and to fans and consumers continuing to support independent hip-hop.

While news of the stores’ closing marks the end of an era, the future is not doom and gloom. Digital sales continue to increase industry-wide; for Fat Beats, currently operating a profitable and growing online retail store, this has provided a boon to business as fans continue to order mp3s, vinyl, and CDs from FatBeats.com. Although digital sales continue to grow, executives at Fat Beats understand the importance of independent retail stores and are planning to re-open a brick and mortar hip-hop lifestyle location sometime in the near future.

The future looks just as bright for Fat Beats Distribution and the label. Fat Beats Distribution, which has been renamed FB Distribution, continues to strike noteworthy distribution deals with independent and major labels worldwide and is now working with different genres of alternative music. Fat Beats Records will continue to release notable albums from their own impressive roster of artists including ILL BILL, TruMaster/KRS-One, Black Milk, Trinity, Sha Stimuli, Q-Unique,and more. Fat Beats owner and President Joe Abajian says, “This is the start of a new era for Fat Beats. We’re adapting to meet the needs of our demographic by revamping and improving our existing systems. While our website, which stocks everything available in our retail stores, continues to do very well, we’re still exploring our options for alternate retail locations in the future. We’re proud of our legacy and will continue to re-invent ourselves. For now, we’ll see you online at FatBeats.com

Mishka Coop Art Show @ 350 Broadway

Basic RGBOpening on Friday June 4th, Mishka presents a series of work from Los Angeles based Coop at their Brooklyn based 350 Broadway gallery.  This will mark the first time since 2001 that Coop will be showing any work in New York. The show is a collection of work inspired by Coop’s recent collaboration with Nag Nag Nag on his Boryoku Genjin figure.  Much of the preliminary work and concepts such as original sketches and header card will be included in the show as well as a very special custom figure by the creator of Nag Nag Nag.

Coop arrived in Los Angeles in the late 80’s where he immediately got to work subverting the mainstream applying his artwork to a number of merchandise including t-shirts, mugs, posers and even Zippo lighters.  Much of his work included doing a host of poster art, including rock posters for Nirvana, Soundgarden, The Sex Pistols and album cover art for notable bands like the Monomen and the Ramones.

During his illustrious career, Coop has been featured in numerous magazines and has published two books - The Devil’s Advocate and THE BIG FAT ONE, a 1008-page sketchbook, which was released in October 2002.

Coop cites Robert Williams, R. Crumb and Eric Stanton as some of his favorites and great influences, in addition to Big Daddy Roth, Irving Klaw, Wally Wood, Gil Elvgren, and a host of other degenerates.

MP3: Necro – “asBESTos”

necro-die_coverNecro Unleashes First Track From Forthcoming Album DIE!

Those familiar with Necro, the Brooklyn bred rapper/producer/label-owner know that he single handedly re-defined the term “hardcore” while gaining an enormous cult following behind his flourishing indie rap empire. “asBESTos,” the first leak from his forthcoming sixth album,DIE!, finds Necro taking listeners on another ride through the darkest side of hip-hop’s rugged terrain where drum hits and calculated flows brutally assault the ears to mind-numbingly pleasant results. Connoisseurs can’t help but listen to Necro and reminisce about the days when an emcee’s worth was only as good as his words. Necro describes the track as “a go for the throat, brutal and epic” record. This is no understatement, as the Brooklyn anti-hero manages to morph flows effortlessly, bobbing and weaving through piano stabs and the threat of soaring strings. This is not hip-hop for the faint of heart.

Coming off of his 2009 production credits on the critically acclaimed Only Built For Cuban Linx II album from Wu-Tangswordsman Raekwon, quite a few folks have wondered what Necro had hidden up his sleeve. Now we know: A scorcher that reasonably predicts yet another outstanding forthcoming album, in DIE!, for Necro.

Necro’s latest album, DIE!, will be released May 18th through Necro’s own Psycho+Logical-Records / RBC / Fontana.

Satoshi Tomiie makes his much anticipated return with MES – “Back To Basics”

“Back To Basics (Satoshi Tomiie Mes Original)”

www.rephlektorink.com/kits/BackToBasics.mp3

Satoshi Tomiie plays an integral part in one of dance music’s biggest legacies. A top DJ, producer and  owner of Saw Recordings, Tomiie is also a member (along with David Morales, Frankie Knuckles, Hector Romero and GM, Judy Weinstein) of the legendary Def Mix crew. Those in the know can attest to the fact that dance music would simply not be the same without their influence; and through all the ups and downs of the industry, this team always pushes back stronger. The New York City-by-way-of-Tokyo based Tomiie feels particularly inspired these days and drops a techno monster with the release (under the guise of MES) of “Back To Basics.” On the flip, Motorcitysoul adds some Detroit flavor to the mix

“Back To Basics” is about digging deep and searching for the one feeling or moment that inspired your love of music. Do you remember the smile you had on your face when you heard something fresh and new for the first time? Remove all the inhibitions and let loose the way you used to. For Satoshi Tomiie, “Back To Basics” is not about revisiting the past just to create something retro or ironic, but rather, he’s referencing key moments of his musical life to create for the future. No rules, no limits. See it. Hear it. Feel it.

“Back To Basics” is released through Satoshi Tomiie’s own label, Saw Recordings. Established in 2001, Tomiie views the label as a forum for experimentation and creativity regardless of style; just great music. To date, Saw has released nearly 80 singles, four artist albums and was among the first to release tracks from the likes of Chab, Guy Gerber, Jim Rivers, Nick Chacona, Nathan Fake and Lexicon Avenue.

In addition to the releases on Saw (including his own mix compilations ES and ES-B), Tomiie is responsible for the all-time dance music classic “Tears” (w/ Frankie Knuckles) and the critically acclaimed debut artist album Full Lick (2000) featuring the outstanding anthem “Love In Traffic” (with ex-Sneaker Pimps singer Kelli Ali.) Tomiie also mixed the fastest and highest selling edition in Global Underground’s Nubreed Series (2002); he mixed the first album of Renaissance’s 3D series (2006); and followed it up with Renaissance: The Masters Series Vol. 9 (2007) and Renaissance: The Masters Series – Satoshi Tomiie (2008). When not running the label, producing or remixing music, Tomiie can be found manning the decks of the finest international clubs.

Barnaby Black Tees & Thermals: Hard Style, Soft Feel

picture-51picture-71A cool darkness has calmed the autumn fires across the land and with the night comes the autumn 09’ collection of Barnaby Black. Inspired by the season and keeping with The Barnaby Black mantra these tee’s are spun from Egyptian and Peruvian cottons that bring the wearer a delicately soft touch. In part with this collection we have introduced a special limited series inspired by the dark artistic vision of the black metal music scene. In company with these tee’s, for late season, we are introducing hand picked, salvaged and recycled flannels that are over-dyed and embellished with the imagery invoked from the depths of the black metal abyss.

For winter we are trekking back into familiar territory, nurturing our passion for the environment with our Discoverus Enlightenmentus Collection. A tribute to discovery, science, and exploration these tee’s will pay homage to the great minds who have laid the ground work for all that we know about the natural world. We will also introduce a series of thermal and first layer pieces that will pay homage to the great state of New York and it’s vast historical wilderness. These will be printed on sustainable, recycled and organic fabrics in keeping with our policy of leaving little or no footprint behind.

As always Barnaby Black will endeavor to fight for the preservation of our planet by practicing eco-friendly procedures in our workshop and with the manufacturing of our hand made garments. For more info please visit www.barnabyblack.com
