Derek DeGrate, Brother Of JODECI’s DeVante And Dalvin, Releases Debut Album, “The Other Brother”
DeGrate is the surname of the family that has brought new flavor to the music industry for decades. Now Derek DeGrate steps out with a solo project, also featuring the production of Dalvin DeGrate of JODECI and Justin Burton-DeGrate.
The album is titled Derek DeGrate “The Other Brother”, with the flavor of the album ranging from urban inspirational lyrics, to urban R&B music tracks. The album captures the attention of urban music lovers and gospel music lovers.
Derek is the other brother of DeVante and Dalvin, of the multi-platinum R&B group, JODECI. Like his older brother DeVante, and baby brother Dalvin, he has been involved in music ever since he was a child actually singing solos in church, at age 5.
Derek has written several songs including 3 Top-20 national charted songs in the gospel market. He has also written or performed bass guitar lines for several projects, including JODECI, and major movie soundtracks including “Strictly Business”, starring Halle Berry and Tommy Davidson. One of Derek’s greatest opportunities was working on a project for Michael Jackson, which he worked with his brother, DeVante.
The new album contains tracks featuring DeVante and Dalvin, and is a style with smooth grooves, hip beats all with lyrics that are dedicated to GOD. “It’s real cool to be feelin a beat like you hear on your favorite R&B or pop radio station, and at the same time express your love for

Mariah Carey flies to Brazil to sing on the largest rodeo of Latin America
The pop star Mariah Carey is the newest guest from “Os Independentes”, group that organizes the “Festa do Peão de Barretos” to make the opening concert of the 55th edition of the Rodeo Festival, on August 21, Saturday. The concert is the most expected attraction of the entire history of Barretos’ stadium. Mariah’s presence will fill all 50,000 seats available.
The singer won the most important music industry awards, including five Grammy’s and eight American Music Awards. She has been part of the team of great artists who have performed at the stages of the Cowboy Festival such as Garth Brooks in 1998, Allan Jackson in 1999, Reba McEntire in 2000, A-ha and Gloria Gaynor in 2002.
Oldest and largest in Latin America, the Rodeo Barretos lasts 10 days and has cultural attractions, sports and dining attractions in a complex of two million square meters. Part of its income is donated to the Barretos’ Cancer Hospital, in Portuguese know as “Hospital do Câncer de Barretos”, reference in oncology in Brazil, which has partnerships with the Mayo Clinic, MD Anderson and St. Judes Hospital.
Almost a million people from all over Brazil and also from foreign countries will visit the town in August to check the show closely.

Former Motown, Legendary R&B Singer, Val Young, Set To Release New Album, “The Voice Beyond”
Former Motown Artist, Val Young, Famed For Success With Snoop Dogg & 2Pac, To Release Solo Album After 23 Years
Legendary R&B/Soul singer-songwriter, Val Young, also known as “Lady V”, is set to make an eagerly awaited return, with the release of a brand new album entitled, The Voice Beyond.
Currently, Val (original Mary Jane Band), and Candice “Candi” Ghant (original Mary Jane Girl), have the license to say and do the Mary Jane Girls. They are performing live, along with Rick James daughter Ty James, where they do a tribute to Rick as part of the show. Val has also been singing with Rufus (Tony Maiden and Kevin Murphy), and Sly Stone.
The Detroit, Michigan native, and former Motown recording artist began performing at an early age, singing background vocals for the likes of The Gap Band, George Clinton, and Roy Ayers. In the 1980′s, late funk superstar Rick James was so impressed by her talent, and physical appearance, that he promoted her as the “Black Marilyn Monroe”. Later signing her to Motown Records, where he helped produce her debut album Seduction (’85), which included the hits “Mind Games”, “Piece Of My Heart”, “If You Should Ever Be Lonely” and her second album Private Conversations (’87), that was released on Amherst Records. The album Seduction would go on to achieve gold status.
Today Val’s walls are lined with numerous gold and platinum discs, in lieu of her many musical credits. One of her most memorable collaborations is the song “To Live & Die In L.A.”by the late Tupac Shakur featuring Val Young, with whom she shared a very special working relationship.
As one of the most recognised voices in urban music, Val has worked with a long list of artists that include Bobby Womack, Kurtis Blow, Dr. Dre, Teena Marie, Deborah Cox, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Bobby Brown, Warren G, Nate Dogg, Keith Sweat, Eddie Griffin, and Eddie Murphy. In 2009, she was featured as a background singer for Raphael Saadiq, in his PBS televised concert Live From The Artists Den, and recent collaborations with Snoop Dogg and Mark Morrison, are due for release later this year.
The Voice Beyond is scheduled for release soon, and includes guest appearances from artists such as the Grammy-nominated rapper/actress, Yo-Yo.

John Legend & The Roots

Musical powerhouses John Legend & The Roots are presenting fans with a fiery new offering, Wake Up! The upcoming CD, being released by Sony Music on September 21, 2010, will feature soulful music from the 60’s and 70’s all with an underlying theme of awareness, engagement and consciousness— effectively telling listeners to Wake Up!
After being inspired by the recent historical Presidential election campaign of 2008, the R&B singer Legend and hip-hop band The Roots felt a need to enter the action. What started as plans for a single quickly developed into a passionate album representing change, hope and activism— not only referencing one particular moment in time, but on a larger scale, holding true no matter what the political climate may be.
The resulting album features eleven profoundly evocative songs infused with sounds of gospel, rock and reggae inflections with hip-hop influences. The album is highlighted by familiar tracks like “Wholly Holy” by Marvin Gaye and “Little Ghetto Boy” by Donny Hathaway mixed with the more obscure selections of Baby Huey and the Babysitters’ “Hard Times,” and “Hang on in There” by Mike James Kirkland.
“These songs sound so relevant now,” Legend says. “On most of them, you wouldn’t change a lyric. ‘Wake Up Everybody’ (the album’s first single, featuring contributions from Melanie Fiona and Common) has four verses—the first one is a general statement, the second is about education, third is about health care, and the fourth is about making a better environment. No editing needed.”
“When these songs were written, people were more spiritually in tune,” says Roots drummer/musical director Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson. “It was fresh from the civil rights era and there was a feeling of hope that maybe, yes, someday we will all be free. In 2010, not so much.”
The album features one original composition, Legend’s song “Shine,” which is featured in Academy Award-winning director Davis Guggenheim’s upcoming documentary film Waiting for Superman. The song, a “Stevie-Wonder-meets-gospel” stunner, clearly demonstrates the strengths of this specific group of musicians. Wake Up! blends Legend’s expressive, thoughtful vocal interpretations with an element of funk that only The Roots can provide.
