Manafest has it all. A fresh, inventive sound that borrows equally from hip-hop, rap and some of the more sonically tuned elements of rock and roll? Check. Over 100,000 albums sold worldwide? You got it. Over 1,000 live shows performed in four continents over the last six years? No question.
And now Manafest (AKA Chris Greenwood) is releasing three back-to-back music videos featuring some of the most poignant tracks off of his latest full-length albumThe Chase. ‘Bring The Ruckus’ is the first in the series and it packs quite the punch. Directed by Chris Stacey, ‘Bring The Ruckus’ features fight choreography from the same trainers who worked on Jet Li’s smash movie ‘Hero.’ Throughout the video, Manafest channels his inner Jet Li; he battles his inner demons, personified by a series of vicious street fighters. These fight sequences are interspersed with shots of a rabid, adoring crowd which give weight to the song’s angst-filled yet ultimately optimistic undertones.
Displaying intensely personal emcee skills, Manafest fuses his gutsy take on hip-hop with aggressively tuned rock. ‘Bring The Ruckus’ is the kind of video which will stay with viewers long after it fades out and the battle is won.
The next video in the series will be ‘Everytime You Run,’ one of the record’s most moving tracks featuring a radio-ready chorus that elevates the track to epic new heights. The video tells the dramatic tale of a car crash, highlighting Manafest’s emotional appeal. He’s no softy, but certainly knows how to captivate audiences as the protagonist of the video comes to terms with his fate.
Completing the series is the video for ‘Renegade’ featuring Trevor McNevan from Thousand Foot Krutch and judging from the still pictured above, these videos will only add to the list of accomplishments in what is quickly becoming a storied musical career for Manafest.
His accolades speak for themselves, and his future is full of poise and promise. Manafest has already received a Juno nomination and The Chase has sold 30,000 copies worldwide within a year of its release. His videos have been featured on MuchMusic and have received heavy rotation on MuchLoud. February sees him touring New Zealand with a US tour in the spring with Superchick playing 800 plus capacity venues
These are anxious times. From unemployment and embattled governments to mysterious mass deaths of birds and fish, it’s easy to wonder if 2012′s apocalypse won’t come a year early. It’s heady fare for an indie rock record, but somehow the dense soundscapes from Hooray for Earth’s
True Loves find a way to float on thin air. “The record is really aggressive sounding, but soft in attitude,” band leader Noel Heroux says. “It’s a friendly record. I get more emotionally affected by extremes. I’ve really grabbed onto the positive, uplifting feelings in music that get me super psyched-but that can also come from sounds that are daunting and a little scary.”
Coming out May 3, 2011, on Dovecote Records,True Loves builds on Hooray for Earth’s acclaimed debut EP, Momo, and captures both the personal and universal anxieties that have such a footing in contemporary times. Lead single “True Loves” thumps along neck-snapping drums, awash with blips and synths, surprising breakdowns and Heroux’s soaringly languid vocals. Pitchfork has already compared the track favorably to artists like MGMT, Yeasayer and Passion Pit, while saying that “all the right elements are in place…[it] floats along and pounds forward at the same time, and one way or another it wants to carry you along with it.” Meanwhile, Stereogum labeled the band one of “CMJ’s heroes,” taking particular note of Hooray for Earth’s “nimble but unpretentious guitars” and “sense of progressive psychedelics and percussive progressions.” The sound that has indie-culture’s gatekeepers fawning is one that springs directly from Heroux’s imagination into a climactic reality.
“I don’t write music with an instrument, I usually just get an idea of what the whole song sounds like in my head, kind of like an earworm that stays with you after listening to the radio. My task is to recreate what’s stuck in my head in actual audible form, as quickly as possible,” he says. “I wish I could just plug a cord into my head…I think that’s why the music tends to be a little dense, because I think of all these things at once.”
Heroux wrote, recorded, and produced about 90% of the new album, with bassist Christopher Principe and guitarist/live synthist Gary Benacquista peppering parts in a few sessions, and drummer Joseph Ciampini adding two days of rooftop drum tracking. Mixed by Chris Coady (Beach House, Blonde Redhead, Delorean, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio), the album might as well be a direct link to the exciting mind of Heroux. Hooray for Earth’s progression is apparent everywhere on the record and boasts exciting things for a band that has already appeared onstage with Mission of Burma, Holy Fuck, Surfer Blood, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Oh No Ono, and many more. Recorded over five weeks in New York, it’s at once specific to the summer of 2010 and transcendent of time itself. Once again, a happy set of extremes.
“Most of the [recording] process is just me getting lost and trying to get things done. I feel like I’m on autopilot sometimes. I’ll finish a song and wonder, ‘When did that happen?’ I don’t spend a lot of time stressing about what instruments to use or what’s missing, I just kind of let it be.”

On Tuesday October 12, 2010 Juno Award winning artist/drummer Odel Johnson will release his second full-length CD entitled Redemption. The hard-hitting Roots Rock Reggae CD is available for pre-orders now on www.odeljohnson.com.
Described by Splash Magazine as “The forcefulness of Peter Tosh – wrapped with the messages of Bob Marley”, Odel returns with his first full-length release since his highly acclaimed, Juno Nominated solo debut Mind & Body Sold. On why he chose the name Redemption for his new album, Odel explains, “When I was writing the songs for Mind & Body Sold the U.S. was in war times, but now, writing Redemption, the economy has caused a shift in people towards being more conscious and community oriented so I see it as a time of redemption.”
Written and arranged by Odel and recorded live at Metalworks studio in Toronto by legendary engineer ‘The Scientest’, Redemption shines from beginning to end. From “Chronicles”, a classic roots reggae track reminiscent of days past, to the hard-hitting, straight up rock on the feature track “Testify”, mixed with a classic rock ballad on “Change”, this album will satisfy a variety of musical tastes. Redemption is produced by Obelisk Music on Odel’s label, Ohm Grown Records and is available worldwide courtesy of Equal Distribution.

The Dandy Warhols’ second album, …The Dandy Warhols Come Down, fades out with an ethereal song; six minutes of day-dreamy, atmospheric guitar based bliss. Born out of their guitarist messing around with a lot of pedals in different configurations just making noise, they recorded it with engineer Tony Lash who promptly slapped the label “Pete International Airport” on it. Ever since that day, Peter Holmstrom has known what his solo project would be titled.
When Holmstrom started playing in The Dandy Warhols, he admits that his talent on the guitar was limited. 15 years on, it’s obvious that his guitar sound holds massive influence over countless other bands. Ranging from neo-psych, spaced-out garage and fuzzy goth, just listen to any psych rock album from this decade and you’ll hear echoes of Holmstrom. Having sold tons of records and touring the world countless times with The Dandy Warhols, Pete International Airport sees Holmstrom stepping out as a band leader for the first time.
Writing predominantly on guitar, Holmstrom, culled his favorite noisy, droney, and atmospheric jams he’d written for the project. With help from friends in the Brian Jonestown Massacre, the Warlocks, Highway, The Upsidedown, M. Ward’s band and Australia’s Even, he holed up in the Dandy Warhol’s recording studio, The Odditorium. The resulting album highlights Holmstrom’s guitar work at it’s finest. Songs like “Repeater” soar into space, dripping with hints of Spacemen 3 while “21 Days” pummels like a lost Primal Scream burner. Nods to past stop there though, as Holmstrom, with the help of The Upsidedown’s Jsun Adams on vocals, stretches the guitar compositions into a lush, fully realized album that cycles though acid-fueled stompers, drenched with feedback and strangeness (“New Eastern”), to melodic love songs (“Sweetheart Tattoo”) and closing with the beautiful and dreamy send off “I Care”.
Pete International Airport steps into the spotlight and showcases an artist at his finest and most experimental. From now on, there are few people that will refer to Peter Holmstrom as “just the guitarist.” Pete International Airport is available from Custom Made Music on September 21st, 2010.

Meet JARED EVAN, a fresh young talent with a unique sound who is destined to be one of 2010’s most talked about artists. Jared grew up playing the drums and listening to artists like Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, and Al Green. Eventually, his musical taste evolved into a passion for older Hip Hop artists such as the Wu Tang Clan, Mos Def, The Roots and others. It’s no surprise that this mix of rock, soul and hip-hop influences has left Jared with a groundbreaking, genre-blending sound of his own.
“Jared meshes Hip Hop lyrics, electronic and post punk influences with classic rock to create a truly unique sound,” says director Rik Cordero, one of the many people instantly drawn to Jared after hearing his first mixtape. Industry heavyweights quickly took notice of the 20-year-old musician including Polow Da Don and Jimmy Douglass who are executive producing his forthcoming debut album on Zone 4/Interscope Records. Jared has also been in the studio over the past year with other notable track kings, such as Dr. Dre, Kevin Rudolf, Boi-1da, DJ Khalil and ill Factor.
Jared’s debut single, the rock-infused “In Love With You” – produced by Polow Da Don – is available online today. Head over to iTunes or Amazon to grab the track and listen below to experience Jared’s sound first-hand.

After taking over the airwaves with their breakout track, “Vans,” and being named #5 in the Rolling Stone’s list of Top 50 songs for that year, The Pack have returned with a new anthem titled “Wolfpack Party.” The Berkeley, CA based group, comprised of Lil Uno, Young L, Lil B and Stunnaman, have released a new track off of their SMC Recordings debut album, Wolfpack Party, on MySpace Music. The forthcoming record features production by Young L with additional help from hit making new comers, The Cataracs, keeping the west coast hip-hop group musically as leaders of “the pack.”
The bay area hip-hop group were discovered by Hip Hop legend Too $hort, who signed them to Jive Records. They released an album and an EP with the label, quickly achieving a large following for their unique and edgy sound created by in-house producer and group member Young L. The group’s musical style is appealing to everyone from hip hop heads to skate boarders to suburban high school kids. Their music’s influence has had great reach, even making its way into famed comedian Dave Chappell Skits, who brought up their popular song “Vans” to the delight of the audience at a recent show.

CRASH KARMA’s Debut Single “Awake” Top 10 Canadian Rock Chart for 14 weeks -
Fast-rising rock group CRASH KARMA will hit the road to coincide with the release of their debut album March 16th. The tour begins March 8th in Barrie, ON and criss-crosses the continent before finishing up in Regina, SK, on April 10th.
CRASH KARMA’s members are no stranger to success, consisting of former I Mother Earth singer Edwin, ex-Our Lady Peace guitarist Mike Turner, The Tea Party drummer Jeff Burrows and former Zygote bassist Amir Epstein. All of these respective groups notched up record sales in the millions, multiple Juno and MuchMusic Video Awards and became household names. “Awake” is, of course, a perfectly appropriate title for the pulsating debut single.
The disc was recorded at Toronto’s Pocket Studios and produced by Turner, and came together on what started their own respective bands – dreams and great songs. Their first national tour will showcase the powerful raw energy of what each member does best, transcending the sum of their parts – Edwin’s roof-shaking lung power, Burrow’s grooves, Turner and Epstein’s eye-popping and infectious’ playing with visceral power, all leading to what radio listeners already know – Crash Karma are one of the most exciting groups around.
How did this rock artist end up on one of the Bay Area’s most esteemed hip-hop labels? “In 2007 my business partner gave Hiero’s owner Tajai (of Souls of Mischief) some of my music. Unknown to us, Tajai had been listening to it while on tour. When he got back, a meeting was set up and we decided to work together.”
“I want my label to represent quality music in general, not just underground rap,” explains Tajai of why he signed Marsol. “Chris has talent and energy that the world needs to see.”
Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, home of Haight-Ashbury, Marsol is the product of the hippie movement, Psychedelic Rock, the Black Panthers. Admittedly, he wasn’t around during the revolution, but the spirit of art, freedom, and progressive thinking still illuminates the Bay Area — and Marsol’s music.
“As a child, I didn’t discriminate between genres of music,” notes Marsol, who includes Pink Floyd, Cream, Stevie Wonder, Nirvana, Genesis, Stone Temple Pilots, D’Angelo, Radiohead, and Hall and Oates among his favorite artists. “I only distinguished between what I liked and what I didn’t like.”
At 6, Chris was singing in his church choir and stealing the spotlight, dancing at his family reunions. By 11, he was locking himself in the bathroom, writing and recording his first songs with a Radio Shack tape recorder. At age 17 he taught himself how to play the piano and eventually taught himself the guitar.
When asked about the meaning of the album title, Marsol shrugs, “There’s no meaning until you create one.”
Fans of rock and dance music alike have New York City duo Streetlab to thank for creating catchy and danceable versions of some of their favorite tunes. Since 2001, friends Mark “Cosmo” Lamorg and Ryan Leary have been exploring the pastiche between classic rock tunes and their rump-shaking potential with an irresistible formula for electronic remixes. After years of re-inventing popular tracks such as The Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter” and Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son” the pair began venturing into writing original material, including “NYSound,” a single that has generated a multi-faceted degree of buzz and coverage since its 2008 release. Since gaining the support of various top-notch radio DJs and record labels, and receiving praise from media outlets from the likes of Billboard Magazine and URB.com, Streetlab is gearing up to release its full-length debut, slated for an April 2010 release.
Influenced by the music scene of the early 90’s, Lamorg and Leary started out remixing classic rock songs, creating tracks that defied the boundaries of music genre and ended up appealing to both rockers and club-goers. Their early remixes caught the attention of BBCRadio1’s Annie Nightingale, and in 2002, inspired indie-rock label Kanine Records to solicit the duo to contribute remixes of tracks by Mixel Pixel and Professor Murder. Astralwerks and Invisible Records followed suit, adding Streetlab mixes to their repertoires. The talented duo spent the next few years teaming up with New York DJs and club promoters, remixing tracks for Parisian acts PlayGround and Thieves Like Us, and creating their own versions of songs made famous by everyone from Nine Inch Nails and Hot Chip to Led Zeppelin and Bob Marley.
In early 2008, Streetlab released original material to the public for the first time on its website. The song “NYSound” instantly zeroed in on the eardrums of bloggers and music supervisors and everyone in between. Even if you’re not scouring blogs and digging through vinyl crates, there’s a good chance you heard Streetlab’s “NYSound” and bobbed your head along to the banger as it was featured in HBO’s Entourage, CBS’ The Eleventh Hour, and on the Apple iPod/iPhone game Tap Tap Revenge 2.
Attention from record labels kept pouring in as Streetlab’s remix of indie titans Passion Pit’s “Sleephead” and Heartsrevolution’s “C.Y.O.A.” were picked up by online record label RCRD LBL and IHeartComix, respectively. Streetlab rode the waves of buzz momentum and secured performances alongside the likes of Chairlift, Hot Pink Delorean, and LA Riots.
With a endless list of remixes and a growing collection of original material to their name, Streetlab is gearing up to unleash a whirlwind of new songs with a slew of acclaimed vocalists. Brace yourselves for an album that is bombastic, immersive, and surpassing the parameters of BPM. They’re latest single “Rat Racer” is available on iTunes and will be the first single off of the debut full-length album set for release on April 20, 2010. In addition to some March tour dates, the duo will be kicking off 2010 with an in-store performance at the Best Buy in NYC’s Union Square.
