D-Sisive - Every Rose Has Its Thorn
Dear friends,
For the past month and a half I’ve been locked up in the studio with producer extraordinaire Andrew “Fresh Kils” Kilgour (Shania Twain, ACDC, Jon Secada) recording the follow up to my Multi-Platinum, Latin Grammy Award-Winning debut LP, Let The Children Die. Though we are near completion, we are still a few months away from the release of Vaudeville.
Not being prolific is something I’ve been guilty of. Ive been attacked in the press, and insulted by fans for leaving them dry without new material. Its been days since my name has appeared on a blog, and for that, some devoted listeners have deemed me dead. Its been weeks since Ive released new music, and for that I apologize. Im not a machine. Im merely a man. Flesh and bones. A robot, I am not.
Which is why I’ve decided to give you a taste. A lick of the spoon. A nibble of the cake. A swig of the sauce. A swallow of Vaudeville.
I selected the song that best represents where Im going, yet never abandoning where Ive been. Underground Hip-Hop, but with a twist. A journalist for Black Hair Magazine once labeled me The Bret Michaels of Rap. Now Im ready to proudly wear that crown. Or Cowboy Hat. A spiky brimmed, solid gold cowboy hat covered with jewels. Sitting atop a gold dipped bandana covered with emeralds that cannot be ruined by sweat.
Ladies & Gentlemen, I proudly present to you…
Every Rose Has Its Thorn.

Toronto DJ/Production Duo Circle Research Sign To URBNET
Circle Research, the globally acclaimed Toronto DJ/production duo, have signed with URBNET, Canada’s pre-eminent urban music label. Their latest LP Gardiner Express is the group’s third, coming on the heels of their much-loved Toronto hip-hop mix show (now a popular podcast on the web) and stellar production work with luminaries such as Ivana Santilli and K-OS.
Appearing just a year after the duo’s sophomore effort, Who?, was released on Germany’s Melting Pot Records, Cricle Research’s newest album marks a clear evolution in the group’s unmistakable sound. For Nik and Gil, the title Gardiner Express doesn’t just refer to the main highway connecting downtown Toronto to its uptown counterparts, it also represents a state of mind.
“We were at the stage where we were naming the songs,” Nik explains, “and I suggested 401 (a highway that connects northern Toronto) but Gil was like, ‘Gardiner Express–” Gil adds — “From there, we realized this name had encompassed the overall feeling of the album. It reminds us when we were growing up in Etobicoke (a Toronto suburb), zooming down the highway towards the city on a Saturday night, blasting whatever was in heavy rotation at the time.”
While the classic analog boom-bap vibe of their original efforts is still the focus, the duo feel Gardiner Express marks their most personal music to date. The songs touch on themes of love and alienation in the 21st century — coolly aided by the duo’s recent embrace of some fresh beat-making tricks and technology.
For instance, it’s out with the familiar Pro Tools rig and in with the Akai MPC 6000 sampling drum machine (a long-time J-Dilla favorite). And while the beat-loving duo aren’t making plans to audition for Canadian Idol just yet, they’ve added a new wrinkle to the mix.
“Vocoders and talk-boxes are cool,” says Nik. “They let guys like us - who dont rap or sing - express ourselves vocally, while adding a distinctly electronic edge that compliments our music”
Circle Research’s third album Gardiner Express will be released on URBNET, Tuesday, April 20, 2010.

Who is iLLvibe?
iLLvibe releases the “SEX, LOVE & HIP HOP SOUL” album.
The Rising Voice of Indy Hip Hop Introduces His Third Studio Album
With over a decade dedicated to his music, hundreds of live performances and radio play on 4 different continents; iLLvibe releases his third studio album, “SEX, LOVE & HIP HOP SOUL”. This Toronto indie artist’s new release is the perfect mix of feel-good hip hop and soul.
Raised in Barrie, ON and now residing in Toronto, ON, at 26 iLLvibe has been able to accomplish what is deemed impossible by most indie Canadian hip hop acts. Performing with some of the world’s top acts – including: Sean Paul, Method Man and most recently Busta Rhymes – and now the release of his third studio album, “SEX, LOVE & HIP HOP SOUL”.
“SEX, LOVE & HIP HOP SOUL” is a step forward musically for iLLvibe, working with vocalists Slakah the Beatchild, Lyric Gyles, Lani Billard and L.S to bring this project to life. Slakah the Beatchild is one of the countries top talents, contributing to multiple Juno nominated projects over the last few years, and the music mastermind behind Art Of Fresh. Lani is the beautiful vocalist that brings heart to the single “So Good”, destined to be a fan favourite. She is best known for her starring role as Busy Ramone in the popular 90’s television show“Ready or Not”. iLLvibe has also recruited Canada’s greatest undiscovered producers: Realize, Bionik Beat Banger, Jordi La Forty and Tyme.
“This album is everything I’ve been building towards musically over the years. I think it’s something real music fans have been waiting for.”, says iLLvibe about the release of “SEX, LOVE & HIP HOP SOUL”.
Recording music is only one of iLLvibe’s many talents, which makes him the quintessential Canadian indie artist. In addition to his musical career iLLvibe is an advertising executive and was responsible for the immensely popular ‘Mazda Music Tour’, supporting hundreds of Canadian indie acts of all genres. iLLvibe also directs and edits his own music videos in correlation with his releases- http://www.youtube.com/illvibeishiphop
iLLvibe’s new album is a mix of modern hip hop with the feeling of old school soul. While one song on the album will feature intense piano with vocals about life, the following features classic ‘Doo Wop’ samples that iLLvibe highjacks into a song of celebration. The vocals are textured, soulful and warm, yet the production is nothing short of get-you-out-of-your-seat hot.
Whether you are a die-hard Canadian hip-hop fan, of simply enjoy uplifting music – this project is worth a listen.
This winter, add some Sex, Love & Hip Hop Soul into the mix. It’ll feel So Good.
