Ninja Tune Celebrates 20 Years with the Ninja Tune XX Box Set
Welcome, come on in, sit down, be at ease. I want to take you back – back, back, back into the mists of time, when Margaret Thatcher was still – just – in power, Nelson Mandela had just been released from prison, the World Cup was won not by Germany but by West Germany and a man called Tim Berners-Lee published a formal proposal for something esoteric called the World Wide Web. And two young DJ/producers, fresh from their success with the likes of household names such as Yazz and Lisa Stansfield as well as in their own right, returned from a tour of Japan sick of major label bullsh*t and decided to set up on their own. These two fresh-faced young men, Jon More and Matt Black, collectively known as Coldcut, made NINJA TUNE.
Twenty years! Twenty fu*king years!? That’s a long time for anything, but for an independent record label it’s eons. So yes, we are going to make a fuss. Yes, we are going to celebrate. But this will not be a tired cash-in, a festival of re-tread or an orgy of old. NO! We are focusing on new material, new newness. Below is a list of what we will do. More detailed
announcements to come.

Florida punk band Against Me! have announced a series of Canadian tour dates in support of their latest album White Crosses. Currently on the road stateside supporting Silversun Pickups, the 10 date headline tour (plus a festival appearance) begins September 8 in Montreal and ends September 20 in Calgary. A limited number of pre-sale tickets will be available starting tomorrow via the band’s website. The first single off of White Crosses, “I Was A Teenage Anarchist,” is currently the #1 rock song in Canada for a second consecutive week on the BDS Rock Chart where it has been in the top five for nine weeks straight. The track was also in the top ten on the BDS Modern Rock chart for 12 weeks. White Crosses, released on June 8, has been very well received by critics. Rolling Stone notes the songs are “righteous, churning, gut-rollers,” while BeateRoute Magazine reaps praise on White Crosses as “bigger without being louder, with soaring choruses that will certainly appeal to the masses.” The Village Voice proclaims “White Crosses is all shiny and fresh and proudly expedient, without proving a thing except that Against Me! are fully capable of doing it again.” The album was produced by Butch Vig (Green Day, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins).
Against Me! have spent the past two years touring non-stop in support of their latest album White Crosses and New Wave, which was released by Sire Records in July 2007.

GARY NUMAN Announces The Pleasure Principle Tour 2010 Launching October 17
To celebrate the recent re-issue and 30th anniversary of his classic album The Pleasure Principle, GARY NUMAN has announced he will come to North America this fall on tour. On The Pleasure Principle 2010 Tour, the modern music icon will perform in its entirety the album that climbed into the Top 20 on the U.S. charts 30 years ago propelled by his unforgettable Top 10 single “Cars.” The shows will feature material spanning across NUMAN’s career, including tracks from his forthcoming album Splinter which he’s currently working on in the U.K.
NUMAN last toured America in 2006 in support of his Jagged album and was set to appear at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival this past April, but had to cancel due to the volcanic eruptions in Iceland blocking air traffic. For his 2010 fall tour starting in mid-October, fans will be able to catch him in 15 markets including Orlando, Atlanta, Washington D.C., Boston, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, Denver, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Emilie Autumn will join NUMAN as the support act in Philadelphia and New York City, with others to be announced for the other cities.
The Pleasure Principle made GARY NUMAN a huge international solo star upon its release in 1979. Given the soft rock and disco-dominated music scene in America at the end of the decade, the disc pioneered electronic pop music on a new, worldwide scale built around icy synthesizers without guitars or conventional song structures (“Cars” doesn’t even have a chorus). The disc’s impact was crystallized in the U.S. when NUMAN performed “Cars” and “Praying To The Aliens” an audience of 40 million people on Saturday Night Live. The music from The Pleasure Principle gave birth to new musical movements in the States over the next decade, including hip-hop, industrial and techno.
As NME recently noted, “every hip-hop production titan ever–notably Dr. Dre–has nicked the opening beats from the track ‘Films.’ The likes of Timbaland and The Neptunes’ minimal pop–featuring exquisitely produced drums and simplistic synthlines–are currently heralded as futuristic genius in the 21st century; The Pleasure Principle shows that Gary Numan was doing the same thing 30 years previously. His influence on hip-hop, while rarely recognized, is enormous. His influence on electronic music in general is unparalleled.”
When GZA of the Wu-Tang Clan covered “Films” from The Pleasure Principle last year, he was actually taking hip-hop back to its roots as the track features one of the original break beats, also included as part of the hugely influential Ultimate Breaks & Beats series. In industrial music, both Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson have name checked NUMAN as a significant influence, with the former currently performing the track “Metal” on his tour. “After hearing ‘Cars,’ I knew I wanted to make music with synthesizers,” says Reznor. “The Pleasure Principle is great because it’s so cold sounding.”
Techno pioneers ranging from Carl Craig to Juan Atkins and Richie Hawtin were also grabbed by this strange, futuristic music, creating a relationship between NUMAN and dance music that has spawned the likes of the Basement Jaxx’s “Where’s Your Head At” (samples “M.E.” from The Pleasure Principle) and the “Cars”-mutating “Koochy” by Armand Van Helden. As the newly reformed Devo recently commented, The Pleasure Principle is “so original and cool and groundbreaking and in a way classic. Like, it still sounds great today…like nothing sounds like that today.”

Just Blaze & Alchemist Unleash “Soundclash” On Europe
Two of the world’s most legendary producers have joined forces to create a show like no other. With a catalogue of hits that includes the biggest and brightest names in music today, these two legendary producers are putting it down on the decks as they play off each other in a display of skills and selection in true sound clash style.
Just Blaze is one of the most creative forces in the game. Having cut his teeth in the late 90’s creating underground bangers for the likes of Buckshot, his distinctive sound soon caught the ear of the major players in the game and he soon had beats featured on albums from the likes of Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg, Big Pun & Jadakiss. However, it was as an in-house producer for Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella Records imprint where he initially became a household name, producing instant classics for Kanye West, Cam’ron, Freeway, Memphis Bleek, Beanie Sigel; and of course the main man himself, Jay-Z, who has featured Just Blaze’s epic production on six of his last seven albums–all of which have gone platinum!
The Jersey born producer, also known as the Megatron Don, has a distinctive sound drenched in soul that still bangs so hard it rocks dance-floors across the globe while simultaneously influencing many of the biggest producers in the game. Just Blaze will undoubtedly be treating a packed house to a fantastic mix of his own productions and the influences behind them in this exclusive sound clash set.
The Alchemist, as the name would suggest, has a knack of turning things into gold, in his case samples and loops. Having got his start in the production game under the tutelage of two of the biggest names in the game (DJ Premier and DJ Muggs), this California native has made a name for himself for his trademark rough Boom Bap style hits. Through his work on albums for underground favorites Dilated Peoples & Defari he came to the attention of Mobb Deep who chose to feature his beats on their classic Murda Muzik LP; and he has has not looked back since.
With a resume that now reads like a who’s who of Hip-Hop’s elite; including work with Nas, Ghostface, Lil-Wayne, Emimem (The Alchemist serves as his tour DJ), Big Pun, Fat Joe & Raekwon to just name a few.
Just Blaze and Alchemist’s “Soundclash Tour” promises to be a legendary performance from two of the most respected names in Hip-Hop history; its also one that needs to be both seen and heard to be believed.

CANADIAN RAP ARTIST D.O. DELIVERS A POSITIVE MESSAGE WITH HIS STAY DRIVEN TOUR
Guinness World Record holder, D.O. (Defy the Odds) brings his Stay Driven tour to schools in Ontario and Nova Scotia this spring. D.O., has been inspiring thousands of youth with his school tours since he began the initiative in 2001. Stay Driven is a one-hour motivational assembly that combines speaking with live performance and addresses relevant teen subjects including bullying, goal setting and literacy. D.O. has also had great success as a rapper, with several chart topping songs on Canadian and U.S. radio and seven videos in rotation on MuchMusic. He is signed to two record labels, one for his solo project and another for his group Art of Fresh, a hip-hop / soul duo with beatmaker and vocalist Slakah the Beatchild.
D.O.’s message to youth is that setting goals and perseverance is the key to success. D.O. dealt with many of these issues himself while growing up, and overcame them by his dedication to his goals and believing in himself.

PUBLIC IMAGE LTD (PiL) Announce Headlining North American Tour
Since returning in December 2009 for seven monumental concerts in the United Kingdom–their first shows in 17 years–PUBLIC IMAGE LTD (PiL) now continue into 2010 with a headlining North American tour starting Saturday, April 17 in San Francisco.
After fronting the Sex Pistols, John Lydon formed Public Image Ltd in 1978. With their experimental sound fusing Rock, Dance, Folk, Ballet, Pop and Dub, PiL are regarded as producing some of the most diverse music of the 70s and 80s. As a band, the music and vision constantly evolved like no other, culminating in an incredible live experience.
The North American tour will be preceded by a special performance at the COACHELLA VALLEY MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL on Friday, April 16 (opening day of the three-day event) in Indio, CA. It marks their first show in the United States in 18 years.
Cited as one of the most innovative and influential bands in music history, PiL return to a country where they enjoyed a special relationship throughout their career for what are set to be stunning shows. The North American dates will be followed by a series of high-profile summer European Festival appearances.
John Lydon (vocals), Lu Edmonds (guitar), Bruce Smith (drums) and Scott Firth (bass) earned critical and public acclaim for their concerts in December 2009, with many British media outlets championing them as the shows of the year.
John Lydon: “I sound like a bag of kittens thrown down the staircase.”
2010 sees the 30th anniversary of the band’s first U.S. tour and also their U.S TV debut on “American Bandstand,” where singer John Lydon invited the audience onstage to dance with the band! Host Dick Clark famously introduced their appearance as “a memorable moment in rock n roll, something special and interesting.”
With a wide and varied back catalogue spanning three decades, Public Image Ltd will be showcasing the unique sounds of tracks such as “Public Image,” “This Is Not A Love Song,” “Rise,” and “Disappointed,” with many further surprises in store.
Lu Edmonds: Multi instrumentalist and former guitarist in The Damned Lu joined PiL in 1986 recording and playing on the album Happy? and co-writing the album 9 adding yet another dimension to the PiL sound. Lu is also associated with a variety of eclectic and acoustic bands including The Mekons and Siberian band Yat-Kha.
Bruce Smith: Former drummer in The Pop Group and The Slits became percussionist for PiL also in 1986 playing and recording on the albums Happy? and 9. Seen as a drumming virtuoso, Bruce Smith brought his unique style into the fold. Bruce has also played with the likes of Björk and Terence Trent D’Arby.
Scott Firth: A bass player/multi instrumentalist that has collaborated and played with a variety of top musicians and bands including Steve Winwood, John Martyn, Elvis Costello and The Spice Girls. Scott’s arrival into the band in 2009 resulted in John Lydon declaring him “Genius at work!”

Fast-rising rock group CRASH KARMA will hit the road to coincide with the release of their debut album March 16th. The tour begins March 8th in Barrie, ON and criss-crosses the continent before finishing up in Regina, SK, on April 10th.
CRASH KARMA’s members are no stranger to success, consisting of former I Mother Earth singer Edwin, ex-Our Lady Peace guitarist Mike Turner, The Tea Party drummer Jeff Burrows and former Zygote bassist Amir Epstein. All of these respective groups notched up record sales in the millions, multiple Juno and MuchMusic Video Awards and became household names. “Awake” is, of course, a perfectly appropriate title for the pulsating debut single.
The disc was recorded at Toronto’s Pocket Studios and produced by Turner, and came together on what started their own respective bands – dreams and great songs. Their first national tour will showcase the powerful raw energy of what each member does best, transcending the sum of their parts – Edwin’s roof-shaking lung power, Burrow’s grooves, Turner and Epstein’s eye-popping and infectious’ playing with visceral power, all leading to what radio listeners already know – Crash Karma are one of the most exciting groups around.

KING KHAN AND THE SHRINES ANNOUNCE COMEBACK TOUR
SOUL PSYCHEDELIC GARAGE BIG BAND TO LEAVE SOUTH IN A DANCE-HANGOVER COMA, BLOW MINDS AT COACHELLA
King Khan might rightfully be accused of attempting to earn the title of hardest working performer in show business. Following a year that saw the release of three albums and several tours of the US, Europe, and beyond with multiple musical outlets, Khan is bringing the celebrated psychedelic soul big band explosionKing Khan and The Shrines back to North America. The three week run of dates, which starts in Atlanta and culminates at Coachella on April 18th,, marks their first jaunt in the States since last year’s tour in support of the domestic release of the band’s classic What Is?! album on Vice Records.
Those who have seen the band know what to expect- and are most likely planning to attend. To the uninitiated: a sweat soaked stage being rocked into a psychedelic oblivion as a sonic pastiche of horns, drums, bass, guitar, and organ weave a gritty soul canvas for Khan to splatter with his infectious persona. Other acts at Coachella be cautioned: the rock messiah will be performing in your midst and he intends to take no prisoners.
